Looking at some of the wish lists for the next Direct.

Oh dear. Same thing always happens :D

I want this this this this this and this, and it doesn't all happen... and so come the meltdowns.

Be more like me! My personal hype levels are so low, at the moment, that seeing at least one thing I'd really dig would make my day! LUL

Ehh, most of the lists I'm seeing are on the reasonable side. Two or three big announcements, gameplay showcases for Kirby, Advance Wars, and Splatoon, and some third party ports isn't too much to ask.

Is Kirby really weeb

Well I guess you do kill gods with the power of friendship so yeah now that I think about it Kirby is JRPG af
Kirby RPG confirmed for February Direct, battling the elder gods with the power of Friendship and sending them back into their slumber of eternal darkness.

Most of Color Splash's issues definitely stem from its resource based combat system and the messy UI. I've said it before but if it was actually closer to something like Baten Kaitos or SteamWorld Quest it would be held in much higher regard.
Can you imagine if Honne at Monolith Soft made an amazing new card-based game and the audience, lacking Baten Kaitos or Steamworks Quest or Lost Kingdoms as a frame of reference can turn only to Color Splash and, as such, denigrate it further?

Color Splash just can't get a break.

I think in general people have their expectations in check for Directs. Especially here on Famiboards, with a lot of levelheaded folks and some of them have a decade of experience of viewing Nintendo presentations.

The only people acting ā€œdisappointedā€ are people with unrealistic expectations or the type of person who likes to bait Nintendo fans.

Finally caught up on most of the speculation.

Really some more info on previously announced games, 3rd party stuff and maybe 1 or 2 new first party announcements sounds like a pretty good direct to me.

As for Zelda I think the best weā€™ll get is a ā€œweā€™ll have more to show at E3ā€ but weā€™ll see.

yeah I'm either going to get what I expect or be pleasantly surprised

Wouldn't be the first time they ended a Direct with Xenoblade.
Nor will it be the last

I'm voting for Feb 16/17th, tho I haven't been here for a while so no idea if there is speculation pointing to another date in February more.

History would agree with you, but apparently Team Asano games, like Triangle Strategy this year, have had their final demos release four weeks before release. So some are saying that the 9th this week would make sense. Either way, the next two weeks are looking extremely likely for the Feb. Direct.

I think i'd actually be happier without Persona 4 Golden on Switch, but unfortunately that's one of the more likely unannounced games on my list! If not in the Direct then announced by Atlus on their own (since it'll be coming to PS4 too).

Since I got the next few weeks to months mapped out as far as games go, I'm going into this Direct only expecting Fire Emblem. Everything else (Xeno3, Donkey Kong etc.) will be a nice extra.

The opener will be a third-party title, and FE could be announced in the middle of the Direct, like Metroid Dread or Kirby.

I could see BOTW2 getting a title reveal + Holiday 2022 as a one more thing while not really showing much more of the game before E3 but not a proper trailer

I feel like i agree with a fair amount of pepole that i think FE will be the opener and Xenoblade 3 the closer
Alright since everyone agrees with that then I'll go with the OPPOSITE! Xenoblade 3 as the opening to echo Pyra and Mythra announcement in Smash !!!

"I can't see Fire Emblem opening the Direct, doesn't it usually show up in the middle?" -person hoping Resident Evil Switch gets revealed.

I'm person.

I still feel like there's one Super Big seller missing from Nintendo's line up for later this year; nothing of that calibre (10m plus) is really rumoured. Of course, we know Legends will sell that much with ease. Splatoon 3 and Zelda are in that category, too, but nothing else is.

New Mario timed for the movie.

3 games that are likely going to sell 10m in a single year isn't enough for you?

Looking at the list, the only games that even break 5m on Switch are Mario, the most popular Mario spin offs, Zelda (sometimes), Splatoon, Animal crossing and Ring fit.

Mario + Rabbids 1 was over 7.5m, so presumably that sequel is intended to be the major mario spin-off game of the year. We're getting Zelda, Splatoon already confirmed. Ring fit 2 isn't impossible I guess?

New Mario for the movie.
Never been convinced there'd be a Mario title specifically for the movie, but more convinced one might appear around that time.

My brain's now concocting a reality where the next 2D Mario is the Direct opener, launches this October, and is a co-production between EPD 8 and EPD 10.

Most years it's 3 or 4, so that could be it, certainly. I just wonder if there'll be something else for the family market releasing this Christmas with a big local and online multiplayer component.

Sorry I didnā€™t edit in time when I realized I wasnā€™t being clear, I meant alongside the movie. I donā€™t think there will be a tie in game since I donā€™t think Chris Pratt Mario will be the Mario. Itā€™s more that we are overdue from a game from the Mario team anyway and theyā€™ll coordinate the release date for maximum impact with the film. Like a month prior to two weeks prior for the launch.

If Nintendo's missing 1 big announcement for the family market then I could see Bayonetta in October, Zelda in early November and the big family game at the end of November/early December.
That would mean Xenoblade 3 in early 2023.

I think Mario and Zelda could launch in the same month. If anything will slip it will be Zelda just by virtue of it being so ambitious. I do think theyā€™ll make it though.

That's one thing they've said they won't be doing

Or, well, I guess you could take that to mean they won't be rushing games to align with movie releases, but if the game just so happens to be done... ;)

how could it work without a second screen?
It could work with a second screen; a second Switch; that's how the Pac-Man Vs Switch port works. Online play would be a fine solution too; in fact they could make that the focus of this version since it certainly won't be as convenient as the original for local play.

Just gonna totally have to rework how the Murasame Jo minigame works I guess, that's one I definitely can't picture functioning at all.

I donā€™t understand why people want a title reveal for BotW2. A title reveal only makes sense at the end of a trailer which shows gameplay mechanics/story. Thats the reason why they didnā€™t reveal the title at E3 2021 since there wasnā€™t enough footage and context for a title reveal.
So donā€™t expect a title reveal + release date if you donā€™t expect a longer trailer.

Personally i think we could see a small teaser + the info ā€žmore details following in summerā€œ. Like the teaser for BotW that had the release date 2016 (which was shown together with the TP:HD announcement).

And did anyone notice how we didnā€™t see Link carrying a sword at all in the last teaser?? I wonder what that could meanā€¦

I hope we get another lyrical song like Edge of Dawn for this new Fire Emblem. I liked Nintendo had one for Mario Odyssey and Smash.
I was hoping this would be the norm for the new FE game since Fates, SoV, and FE3H all had lyrical songs. Would be nice.

Direct wait was really manageable this time around. Probably a combinaison of Arceus and a strong confidence level on when the Direct should air.

The direct is this week until it isn't
^ repeat every week

There isn't a single Mario game of any kind announced isn't there (not by Ubisoft)? Kind of crazy when you think about it.

Surely there's at least one this year. Can't be Mario Party or the usual Mario Sport game either.
