I'm gonna say it for a third time

we may not have a title but we've seen zelda footage

I'm not expecting it personally but don't discount the possibility

Many of you are saying BotW2 isn’t going to show up in this direct, but I don’t know… It’s been SO long now since the first teaser at E3 2019 and even though it’s supposed to release in the next 9-10 months, we still don’t have a title or even a clear idea of the gameplay. They could very well wait for E3 (or a summer direct anyway) and still leave us in the dark until then, but such a short marketing cycle would be unusual for 3D Zelda games.
We got a second full trailer at E3 2021 tbf

I interpreted the meaning of Bill Trinen’s E3 2021 statement as a rough plan to show a bit more of the game before the next E3/June 2022. I think its appearance is on the table.

We got a trailer all right (still a short one, clearly to bridge the gap to this year), but what I mean is if they wait for summer, we’ll be overdue for some meatier info going by past history. For comparison’s sake:
  • OoT, TP, SS and BotW had their title reveal + first gameplay demos respectively 12, 18, 18 and 9 months before release
  • MM and WW were the outliers, with gameplay demos 8 and 6 months before release and title reveals 1 and 2 (!) months before release

I’m not complaining if they decide to wait (edit: alright maybe just a bit), it’s just interesting to compare how they show off the different entries in the series.

I don't think we'll see Zelda in this direct, I don't feel confident in a 2022 release at all in fact.

Might be a dumb question but, with the recent Metroid Prime remaster rumours/leaks, can Nintendo (of course they can in a sense, but bear with me), can Nintendo again talk about a new Metroid project while telling everyone (we're working hard on MP4 don't worry) without showing ANYTHING, like not even a teaser? At this point I'd say they "have" to.

That will be a tricky announcement for them. Nintendo might be better served tying both announcements together like announcing Prime 1 for 2022 with a "coming in 2023" for Prime 4.

I think they can but it's going to be silly, I see it going 2 ways: 1. both prime HD and prime 4 are shown at E3 or 2. Prime HD is shown this direct with prime 4 being saved TGA. I don't see much sense in revealing prime 1 now then a few months later prime 4, though this is nintendo and they do unexpected stuff like that pretty frequently.

They could do what they more or less did for Bayo and have a vague teaser for Prime 4 followed by the announcement of Prime remake.

That seems more an E3 kinda thing though, especially MP4 not exactly being imminent.

Part of me believes that it would be fine to just do something akin to a "before we talk about the Future of the Prime series, let's turn back the clock and talk about where it all began, and here is 'Metroid Prime Reloaded'! JUST IN TIME FOR THE SERIES' 20TH ANNIVERSARY!!!".

And much like with Dread's cycle, Prime 4 "will be talked about a later date". Cue gnashing of teeth from fans and a montage of hilarious/sad thumbnails from certain 'tubers, but it is what it is. At least Metroid is keeping its presence out in front, right?

Now, what I would really love is that "Re-Prime" includes some nice extras to sweeten the pot, especially for those of us who've played the original or the trilogy re-release to death. An in-game, post game completion teaser that serves as a means to hint at what's to come? Or maybe include a few bonus scenes in the middle of the game with Sylux added in to both (re)introduce the guy to new fans, as well as further establish the guy's presence in the series' canon, besides what are now rather obscure spin-offs and a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" appearance in Prime 3's post-credits teaser?

I don't know! I just know that any appearance of Prime would be probably one of the few things that would really make my day when it comes to this Direct.

If Metroid Prime remaster was announced this direct I’d say they’d be fine just reminding people Prime 4 exists.

If they announce it at E3 they could show some Prime 4 footage.

If they do show the Metroid Prime remake here and don’t show Prime 4 they might instead tell us when we will actually see the game. “Look forward to more information at E3 this year” or something.

I do think back to back announcements at E3 makes the most sense, but I could see arguments against it too.

I'm so stoked for Nate's podcast, presumably dropping Tuesday morning since he won't drop predictions before it's formally announced. Can't wait to gauge whether we should be conservative with this Direct or dream big

I expect a brief update along the lines of:

“It’s been over three years since we announced Metroid Prime 4 was in development at Retro Studios, and we know you’re all eager to find out more. I’m happy to tell you all that it’s progressing very well and we hope to show something soon.

Now, here’s something else Retro Studios has been working on that we think will you’ll enjoy - take a look.”

Only asking this because I'm somewhat new when it comes to following leaks, but is there a reason why Nate is so credible? I don't mean this in an accusatory tone, just curious is all.

Nate's had a pretty good track record when leaking things, especially Direct dates where he's rarely if ever wrong. He has a slightly more spotty record when it comes to other things but he's generally one of the more reliable insiders out there.

Unless the podcast episode is for something completely different :^)

I'm weirdly in the middle, excited for the chance of a lot of smaller surprises, but I believe the big Nintendo reveals are likely just FE and Xenoblade, two franchises I really am not into, so I'm not expecting to have my mind blown.

That being said, if Mario Party Superstars actually gets DLC or we get a better idea of what Kirby's 30th anniversary will entail, I will be VERY VERY happy.

Point is, I got a LOT of games I really wanted last year, (NMH3, Warioware, Monkey Ball, Mario Party) and Forgotten Land will definitely be another one of those, so a Direct that doesn't really have much catered towards my tastes is more than fine by me.

Without any specific examples, let’s just say he’s spot on quite often when it comes to leaks / rumors. He rarely if ever puts rumors out into the wild without being pretty confident of them, so when he says something is happening I just assume it is.

Edit: it only gets iffy in some cases which are typically more easily explained after a bit of time - like Metroid Prime Trilogy eventually manifesting as Metroid Prime 1 remake.

Have we confirmed that that's what he recorded? Either way signs are pointing to this week, but this would add to that notion

Ah, I see. Well here's hoping the podcast is what we all think it's gonna be about. 🤞
