Eh, not really implying Smash was taking up an announcement (although people felt this way for some reason).

It's hard to deny that Smash news at the very least got a lot of traction on social media and a ton of press. A new character added to Smash got people talking. They don't have that level of a guaranteed conversation starter to hinge on anymore. So when it comes to marketing, do you adjust things and perhaps announce something that's further out to generate similar levels of buzz. Again, I'm not saying "Smash is over so we'll get four announcements instead of three!" I'm saying maybe we'll get three announcements but one of them is a 2023 title. Or maybe they double down on DLC for other games so they can have similar levels of short term excitement. Will they focus more on hyping up future NSO releases? Will we see more time given to titles releasing within a month? Will indie games get more of a spotlight in main Directs?
I know you werenā€™t implying that. I was making a joke lol. Also, this whole ā€œwhat can we do to replace Smashā€ is so overblown to me. Nobody needs Smash level of excitement. I donā€™t understand where this is coming from? Why do indies need more spotlight or focus on hyping the old games from 2 decades ago?

BotW 2 is it not a huge game? A possible Odyssey 2 announcement. A new Mario Kart announcement? We donā€™t even need those. We donā€™t need anything like Smash for short term excitement. This sentiment that Nintendo should do stuff to match Smash in a direct is very puzzling to me. Nintendo will announce what they need to announce. Whatever the business is telling them to put into the direct. I donā€™t think anyone says ā€œwell no more smash we need to do something every direct now to replace its excitementā€.

Games like Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Metroid are plenty exciting and can carry as big announcements. Theyā€™ll have third party announcements. Theyā€™ll have shadowdrops and exclusives. Thatā€™s good enough.

Are we??? I thought we had them all at this point.

Several of them, actually!

This is outdated because SM3DW and Fatal Frame/Project Zero 5 have been rereleased in the meantime. Credit goes to @mazi

Also I'm a little bit upset that they haven't ported the single player from Splatoon

This doesn't have Pikmin marked off either

tbh most of the unmarked games are either coming eventually (Zelda) or suck (most of em lol)

like I don't think anyone is legitimately out here desperate for Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival on Switch

Wind Waker HD
Twilight Princess HD
Yoshi's Woolly World
Xenoblade Chronicles X

I think these have an ok shot, rest not so much, yeah

Have we considered that we might see a new Wii U port this year? šŸ‘€ Still missing a few...

I could see it happen-
Yoshi's Woolly World
Twilight Princess/Wind Waker- Either this year or next year, depending on BOTW 2

Maaaaaybe this year-
Star Fox Zero
Paper Mario Color Splash

Eventually, but not this year-
Kirby & The Rainbow Curse
Xenoblade Chronicles X

LOL
Devil's Third
Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival

I wonder if GB/GBC still expected for NSO
From what Nate said last year after the N64/Genesis announcement, supposedly that emulator is ready to go. As to when Nintendo will launch it is anyone's guess.

I don't think we will see it until Nintendo puts most of their first party N64 stuff out.

Edit: Beaten by the hate himself.

Yeah, all that's pretty much left from the Wii U that people actually care about are the Zelda remasters, XBCX and Yoshi's Woolly World (which already got ported over to 3DS).

Don't think that many people are chomping at the bit for Amiibo Festival or Devil's Third on Switch.

Star Fox and Paper Mario seem like theyā€™d require way too much work, agreed with the rest. Donā€™t remember how Kirby played, though. I guess they could replicate that with a gyro pointer and touch controls when undocked?

My personal expectation regarding when the next Direct will happen is that it's likely next Thursday because I'm busy all day that day so it's when they'll likely air their thing.

I actually kinda want Devil's Third. Couldn't afford it at launch and it quickly became sold out and the price jacked up.

Yeah, this would be my expectation. I thought Yoshi's Woolly World had a chance this year; Good-Feel ported their previous games over to 3DS as they were working on Crafted World. Question is whether they'd be able to port the old game, develop a new game, and work on the self-published stuff. I guess the incentive is there if Nintendo commission the work.
The emulator and QA are complete. Just up to Nintendo to bring them to NSO. For whatever reason... they are sitting on them.
N64/Mega Drive are more 'valuable' propositions for launching the expansion pack, I guess.
NES Remix seems like it would be a good port but given the nature of the game a new one would make more sense
NES Remix followed by SNES Remix is the dream.

Agreed. I could see TP/WW shadow dropping after the next direct. XCX is probably a 2024 release.

For Star Fox, I think it is a question of do they want to rework the controls and use the game already in place? Or do they say screw it and make a new one?

I haven't played Color Splash so I can't comment on that.

I wonder if they could just create an additional menu for the FrontierNav and the map screens in Xenoblade X. Nothing about it was really dependent on it being a second screen, or depending on touch controls. So a Xenoblade X port isn't impossible, I'd say.

That game would be the tipping point that makes Switch my favorite Nintendo console.

Star Fox Zero Deluxe just feels pointless to me because the whole reason Miyamoto even made that game was to show off the Wii U's Gamepad capabilities, the entire game was build around it. It's the same thing with something like Nintendo Land, which was meant to be to the Wii U as Wii Sports was to the Wii.

We're never getting X at this rate :(

Or Nintendo Land. Man, I miss playing that.
Neighte the Hate
Lol. I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when seeing this post

Since I am a big proponent of reusing assets, I think they should open the drawer with the pretty Star Fox Zero models and slap together a small free multiplayer game for NSO.

Thatā€™s how game development works, right?

You can play the entire game without the Wii U Game Pad, no? I donā€™t see why that would be a problem to bring over.

Damn, your busy day is the 10th while my (now postponed) jury duty is the 9th. Who will win? Classic Skittzo vs Kano battle.

it being February happened
I like the part where #TeamFebruary has a heartfelt last fight with #TeamJanuary.

#TeamFeburary pummels #TeamJanuary and wins.

#TeamJanuary's last words?

"You're pretty good!"

I feel like a Color Splash port partially
depends on whether Intelligent Systems have the resources to make a Fire Emblem remake for 2023 and a new Paper Mario for the next due date for the series, which is 2024. Remastering older titles in the PM series is an option, sure, but Color Splash is probably the least intensive option resource wise.

Nintendo also have the option of simply not having a Paper Mario title ready in 4 years' time, too.

"ftfy." - @Suswave

It's a shame cuz Stadia's streaming is way smoother for me than Xbox's and others (at least where I live.) But at the same time Google got so cocky with it w/o actually putting in a whole ton of effort into it. Like they thought they were just going to come in and own the space.
It was a bold strategy comparing Stadia to the Atari Lynx, NES Powerglove and Sega Dreamcast

Honestly I'm still shocked NES Remix wasn't just another NSO bonus game to play. Hack in some online leaderboards/multiplayer and bing bang badoozle, more value to the service.

I don't see Game & Wario or Yoshi getting ported as they've already received new sequels that are far better tailored to the Switch's capabilities regardless.

If Nintendo ports Colour Splash before TTYD Arlo's meltdown will be legendary and he will be entirely correct; you can't change my mind

You can play exclusively on the GamePad, but you'd lose the ability to interact with the map. (iirc, I only tried it once)

Talking about 3 party support that can show up, last year there was rumor/report on MGS3 Remake in dev and ports of the MGS games, at least i rember them

  • Add amiibo festival to New Horizons like puzzle league came to new leaf (give multiplayer some activity at least)
  • Put NES remix in the NSO package (i don't care which tier)

Big Brain Academy is probably the strongest argument for independently showing 1-2 Switch 2

if it's coming in May, when would they announce it?
I thought earlier this week, but that didnā€™t happen, so maybe the week after???
