It is possible Everybody Switch is announced by itself and not in the direct. Most of EPD 4’s games are standalone announcements, but things like Ring Fit and Labo are pretty different. Idk if Everybody Switch fits more of those criteria, especially if it’s a sequel to a launch game already.

It's not gonna be in the Direct. EPD4 has announced most of their Switch games outside of Directs.
That's true, including with Game Builder Garage last year, and for Big Brain Academy.

But then the February Direct also had Miitopia, and whatever that licensed game was.

if it's actually just 1-2 Switch 2 it is neither important nor unique enough to justify this approach
I'd wager whatever it is will have a unique hook that separates it from 1, 2 Switch. Either way the only EPD4 game they've actually had in a Direct since 2017 is Miitopia, which is a remaster of a 3DS RPG.

They've been pretty keen about avoiding putting experimental or non-"gamey" titles in Directs. I certainly don't expect Everyboy's Horse Stinker to be in this direct.

Big Brain Academy is probably the strongest argument for independently showing 1-2 Switch 2

if it's coming in May, when would they announce it?

I like that this game was described to us SPECIFICALLY as a game that is not going to be popular and yet has dominated conversation for weeks/months
I maintain that it's the only interesting rumor

everything else is "safe sequel to (insert a game everybody likes)," safe sequel to (game everybody likes)," "remaster of (game everybody likes)," etc

compared to "dumbass sequel to a mystery game nobody likes"

much more interesting, much more to discuss

Shh, we don't want to start this discussion again...

Just trying to remember how the control scheme mapped out originally and drawing a bit of a blank; analog was movement, lock on with L (?), d-pad was visors, C stick was beams, A was shoot? What did everything else do? Y for morph ball, X for missiles? Where'd the B button come into this?
B was jump, R allowed for looking around with the camera, Z was map screen. I think you have Y and X the other way around.

If there was dual analog, it'd be left stick movement, right stick aim, d pad visors, face-buttons beam, R for shoot, L for lock on, ZR and ZL for other functions (morph ball, missiles?). Of course, the combat is designed around the lock-on and strafe combo, so perhaps dual analog is a step too far. I'm sure the absence of it will trigger one of those "Nintendo Y" storms.
I can see them going dual-analogue, but with ZL functioning as the lock-on button, ZR being the trigger, R for missiles, L for Morph Ball maybe, face buttons for jumping, maybe we'll see the Speed Booster in MP4? D-Pad for visors or they could do a thing where you hold down L and the D-Pad selects either visors or beams or hold L or R and select either beams or visors with the right stick.

I think it might be doable, Prime isn't really the fastest shooter to begin with, so it can potentially be a little more forgiving.

“Game Everybody Likes”

You’ve cracked the code. That’s what the title of the horse game will be.

the fact that we've been calling 1-2 Switch "the horse game" just shows that we have to stop reading into phrasing so much

The miracle game was Dread. A game announce over 15 years ago, cancelled, and rumored ever since
Yeah I definitely think that was one of them. Though he did say there were more than just the one.
Yep he said there was more than one on first party and third party. So far Dread appears to be the only one we’ve seen?
Yeah, my interpretation (unless I'm sorely misremembering) was that Metroid was a more than welcome announcement he was teasing often, but it was completely independent of whatever this miracle game could be.

He ruled out a number of possible contenders (including Halo on Switch 💔), but I think if people mentioned Goldeneye on the old site he curiously avoided replying to them directly. Granted, I could be pulling tales from my ass with my shite memory, and I have better games to play on a weekend than meticulously comb through a single user's posts obsessively trying to find any crumb of clues that could lead to that a-HA! moment if only because it's been so long (and I need a simpler method to stop it eating away at me inside lol)

Does Monolith Soft not exist in your world? 😂

Personally I see Monolith's new title either the first game shown or the last game shown. Leaning more towards the latter.

I feel like BOTW2 won't be shown again until E3.

More details on Splatoon 3 is likely. And maybe Bayonetta 3.

More info on Kirby TFL.

I also think there's a chance of a new Fire Emblem game revealed.
Its difficult to predict Xeno 3, both Xeno 1 and 2 got around 9-12 months of marketing cycle between its first reveal to game releasement. I imagine if its not reveal on this month’s direct, its a 2023 title and can be revealed at either E3 or september direct. Its hard to guess. I wouldn’t mind Xeno 3 being slipped to 2023 only if some rumoured exclusives like Resident Evil or Mario Musou are true and coming this year. IMO, this year is the last chance to see that supposedly (timed exclusive) switch resident evil and a mario musou games makes sense to be launched by very late this year to coincide with Mario’s movie.

btw about nate miracles some other users mentioned, I remember a journalist/insider from UK i think once said that rockstar/take two were developing a port of RDR2 for both Switch and a the long rumoured/speculated Switch Pro/2 back in 2019. I remember Nate later say he also heard the same. I imagine this was of his miracle games related to third parties becuase, it would be truly a god miracle if it happens lol.

RDR2 would be your launch year "this Nintendo system will have gamez" miracle port for new hardware.

Been using the Megaton Hammer in the Fire Temple and really hoping Nintendo bring the Megaton Hammer approach to the next Direct.

One thing I've been thinking about is how this is the first Nintendo direct in a post Smash DLC world. I know that the Sept. 2021 direct didn't announce a new smash character but it did announce a future Sakurai presents. I wonder if Nintendo will be more forthcoming about future titles knowing they can't rely on the hype of Smash Bros. anymore.

With Smash out of the way, Everybody's a Stinky Horse can finally have the spotlight.

I feel like some of us (read: me) are going to be somewhat disappointed (read: devastated) if that casual game doesn't prominently feature a horseperson.

Thank god Smash was taking up another big game announcement. Now it’s out of the way!! /sssssss

Eh, not really implying Smash was taking up an announcement (although people felt this way for some reason).

It's hard to deny that Smash news at the very least got a lot of traction on social media and a ton of press. A new character added to Smash got people talking. They don't have that level of a guaranteed conversation starter to hinge on anymore. So when it comes to marketing, do you adjust things and perhaps announce something that's further out to generate similar levels of buzz. Again, I'm not saying "Smash is over so we'll get four announcements instead of three!" I'm saying maybe we'll get three announcements but one of them is a 2023 title. Or maybe they double down on DLC for other games so they can have similar levels of short term excitement. Will they focus more on hyping up future NSO releases? Will we see more time given to titles releasing within a month? Will indie games get more of a spotlight in main Directs?
