The reason was they got MP4. Their original plan was the trilogy pre-MP4 assignment. They shopped around for external help soon after getting MP4. Whether MP2/3 come to Switch is TBD. I've heard yes but unsure when and in what form.
as always thnks for the info you share. big fan of your podcast.

fun cool fact, you can literally google "7 am japan to here" and google will handle the rest

it is, for the record, 5 pm. I think I remembered 6 because last year's was a fucking hour long
Ha

I didn't remember whether or not they happened at 7am exactly, I just remembered it was either 5pm or 6pm eastern regularly and did in fact google what time in Japan that corresponded to.

I really do hope we get Mario Party Superstars dlc. It’s the best Mario Party in over a decade. I see a lot of praise all around for the game. We really just want more maps (and characters). There’s so much more to offer from the N64 Mario Party games like Western Land, Boswer Land, etc.

Still waiting for a new Pokémon Pinball, can't be that big of a budget to sell bonkers anyway. Never understood why we didn't have another after ruby/sapphire.
I know this sounds crazy, but I'd love a retelling of all the stories in a pinball model. Like it'll start in Kanto, then Johto, and etc but with pinball.

Can not wait for them to complete the Three Houses saga.

Fire Emblem: One Shed
Fire Emblem: Two Huts
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Four Manors

Fire Emblem: Free Houses

A harrowing tale of a young man robbed of the pub promised to him by birth-right. He must defeat the seven evil landlords-of-fate, drink the sacred pints, and amass an army of under-paid college students in his quest to reclaim what's his.

Fire Emblem: Brie Houses

A young woman and her unlikely companions have to take up arms to reclaim her family's dairy farm from the clutches of the monastery.

What are the odds for Nate's miracle game showing up in this Direct?

And if it actually is GoldenEye, will we get a wink or something acknowledging it?

Man, I'd have zero hype for a Fire Emblem announcement. This year I have way too many turn based strategy games to buy and I'll probably get burnt out by the genre by the time FE is out.

I also don't want anything to steal Triangle Strategy's thunder. It needs to pass 1m point.

Fire Emblem is the pinnacle of turn based strategy games for me. personally I would leave the others out before I would leave out FE.

The Prime 1 re-make/master might have been strategically chosen as an internal project at Retro as a good way to get the graphic artists and 3D modelers in the right creative and technical mindset before they began full production on Prime 4.
No,its the reason they got Metroid Prime 4 at all, development started in 2017 while namco was making prime 4

This time next week would’ve already seen Xenoblade 3, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 1 Remakester, Mother 4, Pikmin 4, Mario Kart 9, Super Mario Odyssey 2, New Chibi Robo Returns.
You forgot Pokémon Gen 9 & 10, Mario Kart w/e, Smash Bros Ultimate Ultimate ft Sakurai. But yeah what a time to be alive.

Here's a thing.

Will Nintendo offer dual analog controls in Metroid Prime HD?

Just trying to remember how the control scheme mapped out originally and drawing a bit of a blank; analog was movement, lock on with L (?), d-pad was visors, C stick was beams, A was shoot? What did everything else do? Y for morph ball, X for missiles? Where'd the B button come into this?

If there was dual analog, it'd be left stick movement, right stick aim, d pad visors, face-buttons beam, R for shoot, L for lock on, ZR and ZL for other functions (morph ball, missiles?). Of course, the combat is designed around the lock-on and strafe combo, so perhaps dual analog is a step too far. I'm sure the absence of it will trigger one of those "Nintendo Y" storms.

Man I need to play Prime again. At least they've got me covered.

I wouldn't dismiss Mario Kart as a February announcement. Really depends on whether EPD can ship more than Zelda, Splatoon 3, and Everybody Switch this year; and perhaps whether Nintendo are prepared to show something for early 2023 and consequently, whether EPD are back to releasing a few things each year after the pandemic disruption.

EPD 8, 9, and 10 are the groups to watch for new games, given we know what EPD 3, 4, and 5 plan to ship games in 2022.
I could see Mario Kart Next being the "Splatoon 3" moment of this February Direct. I don't really find it likely as I think they'll want to milk 8 Deluxe for the rest of this year until holiday season so maybe announcing the next entry for 2023 already would hit it? Or maybe not.
I think the next 3D Mario or Metroid Prime 4 would be more likely candidates for 2023 game reveals.

As always my guess is

opener: new fire emblem
spotlight: splatoon 3
finisher: combination of bayonetta 3, resident evil and/or zelda botw 2

E3
opening: a big third party exclusive; either mario musou or something else
spotlight: zelda botw 2
ending: metroid prime remaster + 4 teaser

Hmm. No Monolith game 🥺

Does Monolith Soft not exist in your world? 😂

Personally I see Monolith's new title either the first game shown or the last game shown. Leaning more towards the latter.

I feel like BOTW2 won't be shown again until E3.

More details on Splatoon 3 is likely. And maybe Bayonetta 3.

More info on Kirby TFL.

I also think there's a chance of a new Fire Emblem game revealed.

I'd be shocked if they didn't offer it as an option (+gyro) at the very least. Of course, still plays perfectly fine with its original control scheme but I suspect they will want to give people a bit of a taste of Prime 4 as well. I hope they have the new control scheme with the old one as an option.

Yeah. I belatedly remembered the entire Trilogy was obviously altered to use the Prime 3 controls, so it's not as if Retro are adverse to departing from the original control scheme. I really don't have Prime retained in my brain properly at the minute, for whatever reason.

Pretty close to what I think it will be as well. My hunch though for February is that the closer is Xenoblade 3.

Opener: New Mario title
Mid-show: Everybody Switch
Closer: Xenoblade 3

I'm thinking it's Fire Emblem OR Xenoblade. I can't see both announced in the same Direct. Mario and Everybody Switch are most likely H1 titles, while Xeno and Fire Emblem are H2.

Plot twist; Mario Kart 9 is actually DLC for 8. Priced at $9.99.

I think Fire Emblem is the next big 1st party game this year for summer next to Splatoon 3. So I'd expect that to definitely be revealed in the Direct. Since we've seen a pattern of Directs closing on new game announcements that are a year or so away, it would be the perfect time to show Xenoblade 3 as well.
