I just want you to know that despite my light activity on Famiboards today, I'm not ignoring you. I've only been able to check my phone for five minutes at a time all day, and your post deserves more than that. Unfortunately I'll continue to be busy for much of the remaining weekend, however.

I realize you never replied to me further, but I also want to apologize if me basically saying "anyway I'm going to bed lol" discouraged further conversation. My intent was to communicate that I wouldn't be able to further reply for a while, but there were probably better ways to phrase that.
oh no please don’t worry, even though my response is to you, it’s more about the concept, not that you said it

I want you to know that I’m not trying to do any FACE ME type shit, nor pick fights, and I don’t expect a timely reply or ANY reply or even reading it, lol

truly no worries, other than the worries

haha not at all, if anything you should've been more discouraging; things got out of hand
oh god I've only skimmed

what have i done

Oh, I know you're not lol. I just realized I made a post or two on here after you sent yours and wanted to clarify.

AI:SF is still good, getting a lot further in now although I honestly have no idea how long it is. Unless the end completely blows me away, though, I think that 999 (and probably VLR, too) are both better. Somniums (and worrying about time) just aren't as fun to figure out as the puzzles in those games. And the few QTE bits that I've encountered so far seem really out of place and not very good. The plot is still really interesting though, looking forward to figuring it all out!

AI also unfortunately continues the trend in these games of having a lot of pointless (and almost out of nowhere) sexual comments. Thankfully they're mostly completely incidental and are pretty easy to ignore, but also like... why do they need to be there at all?

Yeah the sexual stuff really soured me on the game, to the point where it put it down a year ago and haven’t felt the desire to go back to it since. I don’t remember if it was this bad in the Zero Escape series, if it was it didn’t bother me as much as it did with AI.

It had been on my wishlist forever and I finally grabbed it in the holiday sale. Seems like overall you’ve enjoyed it? Haven’t started it up yet. Will probably give it a shot after Arceus and Earthbound (maybe mother 3 too?).

Definitely still enjoying it, even with some complaints! If you like games like the Zero Escape series, this is different but also feels similar in a lot of ways, and will probably scratch a similar itch.

The Tetris 99 cycle:

1. Start

2. KO two or three players

3. Make it to top 15 easily

4. Get shit on by everybody in the lobby

5. Misplace a block at a crucial moment

6. Die

7. Repeat

Every main direct in 2018, 2019 and 2021 were great. Even if there wasn't that much for me, I know it was filled with enough content, and was presented extremely well for the majority.

(Even Fall 2019 for obvious reasons)
Agreed, I've enjoyed every Direct in the Switch era; even in the Partner Directs there was always at least one thing that caught my interest.

Granted I don't go into Directs "expecting" certain games to be there. I enjoy making predictions and hoping for certain games to be shown, but I never watch expecting BOTW2, Metroid Prime, or Xenoblade 3.

I've got some Xbox BC games I'm eyeing and looking for thoughts or advice from any of you fine folks.

-Mega Man 9/10 - do these games have a save feature? I'm terrible at Mega Man but I was able to beat MM2 using save states as a hard save, mostly between levels. Are they recommended if I found MM1 impossibly tough but enjoyed MM2 on hard?

-Sonic Unleashed - I'm going to get Generations but since this is a rare sale I should probably get this too right @chocolate_supra ?

-Does Rayman Origins have any BC enhancements?

Finally sent my first letter on Slowly. It's going to someone in Hong Kong, so it'll take two days to get there.

Playing FF XII to scratch my RPG itch while I wait for Pokemon Legends. It's my third attempt playing it. First on PS3, then PS4, and now on Switch. I get further each time but then I burn out along the way. Maybe I'll finally completed it on Switch.

dear god I'm gonna throw up

It's Musk so clearly it's not gonna actually work anything like the way he's explaining. At best it'll let you save like 5 video clips it records from an optional eye implant peripheral.

Then you need to transfer it to another drive to make space for more.

I feel like since getting a Playstation 5 a bit over a year ago, I've become more of a Japanese game fan more so than a Nintendo fan, and yes, I never owned a PS4, so I've been absorbed with so many PS4/5 games over the year.

I have a question for the Famiweebs:
Is anyone else after all these years still listening to Megumi Hayashibara, or am I the only one?

as i've been going through my backlog, i'm going through some ps1 games that i would have otherwised missed if not for sony's ps1 classic rom dumps. no exaggeration - it's a net good that those exist. i've been playing megaman legends for the very first time and despite the clunkiness of it being one of those early 3d games, the presentation holds up extremely well. it looks beautiful even today and is genuinely fun to play, warts and all.

i've also come to the conclusion that the original ps1 controller is one of the single worst controllers for a mainstream console, if only for the absolute laziness of it in 3d space. even the sega saturn's original controller had some sort of 3d feel to its directional pad before coming out with the stick controller in 1996. the og ps1 controller is a modified snes controller with two extra shoulder buttons and that's it. it's about as creatively bankrupt as you can get and kind of encapsulates the extent of sony's approach to design in general.

the reason i bring it up isn't that it sucked in the 90s, which it did, but that it sucks in 2022. when i was going through some older ds games on my backlog, i played them on the 3ds. and you know what: it was my preferred method. i'd tried playing my ds lite and it just didn't feel good. popping dragon quest vi into a 3ds and using the slide pad though? yeah it was a lot more comfortable. meanwhile, i'm playing these ps1 classics games and despite exclusively coming out for systems with at least one analog stick or an equivalent, there is no similar effort made to make the analog stick a secondary directional pad. it is so frustrating to have to use the d-pad on these old ps1 games when the analog stick is right there. i'm not sure if it is because nintendo's 3ds backwards compatibility came later or they just care more about ease of use but good lord it brings down the overall enjoyment of something when it just the slightest bit of effort or care could have gone a long way.

Note to self, do not play Tetris 99 past 10pm US Eastern time. That's when all of the Tetris demons come out to feast on the souls of the innocent.

The only songs I know of her are the Shaman King openings. Absolute banger openings I may add.
Indeed. Just heard Soul Salvation for the first time the other day and it had me butt-dancing in the car.
Check out some of her earlier work from Slayers and Saber Marionette J! Super upbeat pop stuff but her voice adds something more classic to it. Midnight Blue especially is seriously one of my favorite songs ever though I can't describe why. 😅

Phew. Grinding for Lv50 Skells ain't no easy feat.

Xenoblade question: How does 2 compare against the first game and X respectively? Which one does it lean heavier towards? Is it a good game for someone who didn't like the first game but adoooooores X?

just curious.
Mind if I ask what made you dislike the first one? As others mentioned, 2 is structurally closer to 1, but differs pretty heavily in terms of mechanics (combat in 1 is much closer to X than 2), and story tone. It's also in general a more character focused game as opposed to overarching narrative like the first. Personally I ended up preferring 2 to 1 and it's one of my favorite games of all time now.

Big time Packers fan here who had his season ruined by Rodgers being a terrible human being. I couldn't be happier, tonight!
Me, a Broncos fan: Please, please don’t sell off the entire draft and throw away the season to trade for this jackass

Watched a couple of YouTube videos about American football rules so I could then try to grasp the match the SpawnCast was freaking out about

Turns out they tied the game with kinda the equivalent of a soccer goalkeeper giving away possession I guess :p Timestamped link (they don't allow embeds)

But the uhh 3-point goal with 1 second remaining was cool

In all seriousness, there's only really one move Nintendo can make in response to this industry shaking news:

Acquire Good-Feel, merge them with EPD and Intelligent Systems, and, invest the entirety of their liquid cash reserves, and use the entire workforce of the combined super-developer Entertainment, Planning, Development, Intelligence, Systems, Good, and Feel (EPDISGF) to create a new Wario Land game which is so bloated, so insanely ambitious, so full of farts, so well animated, so ethically disturbed and so philosophically misinformed that it crashes the entire gaming market (console, mobile, PC and streaming) and forces every gaming company out of business, thus ending this madness once and for all

Only Wario can save us now
Don't be silly, Spo. Everyone knows a new Wario Land is going to be made by MercurySteam's people after Nintendo poaches them for their own studi--
In all seriousness

And I mean a serious thought and not a demand for Wario Land 5 made by the entirety of Nintendo's resources

Nintendo should invest in NST and NERD and turn them into regional development hubs on the EPD model

Hire and or abduct local talent from those regions to build their own teams and foster a creative culture with access to Nintendo's historic IP and the freedom to create new IP

Most importantly, abduct the Good People (not shitty management) from Mercury Steam and Ubisoft Milan and turn them into first 2 internal production groups at NERD
... yeah, basically this. I always clarify that I don't necessarily expect this, but it really just makes sense to me. Those two studios, especially, currently have controversial elements that would make people look elsewhere and also have current ties to Nintendo. It's basically a situation set up specifically to facilitate a course of action like this, and much more likely than most of the suggested acquisitions fans have requested over the decades.

Honestly, it almost makes too much sense.
