I guess we know why Nintendo Minute ended. Kat is leaving Nintendo.

Please don't turn the narrative towards "Krysta ended Nintendo Minute."

Nintendo Minute didn't end because Krysta was leaving.

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been a Scream fan ever since my older sister and her friends snuck me into the theater to see the first, but I wasn’t sure how the newest one would turn out. Now I’m excited to go see it!
Hell yeah! I really hope you enjoy it like I did. It takes some bold stabs at toxic fandom and elevated horror, which I really dug, and the audience scores are really positive so far. It's got some issues, but so does every Scream more or less, and this one was sharp. A handful of really tense sequences and there were a couple of really poignant moments too.

People say Nintendo will never do NFTs because they are so behind on understanding online trends, but that’s totally wrong.

Nintendo will never do NFTs because they’re never going to give even the illusion of players owning some aspect of content in their games.

I think Nintendo has actually been ahead of the curve in understanding online trends. They knew how shit the internet would become so they required you to be at least smart enough to put in a damn code to even engage with people.

I actually agree with this. I’ve never felt Nintendo was inept or whatever people say to feel smarter than a multi billion dollar company. They just have a different strategy with its benefits and drawbacks, all calculated.

By the time the Wii came out, Xbox Live already had the reputation of being a cesspool. I remember someone on a podcast back in the saying that an Xbox Live headset was the worst thing you can put next to your head after a shotgun. I remember all of these gaming execs had visions of everyone chatting with each other in game over voice coms and that was true in the early Xbox Live days but people eventually got fed up getting called the f-word by a 13-year old every game. Unless the game specifically requires coordinate team work, I feel most people just play multiplayer games with voice chat off.

Something about the first panel of the MyNintendo 2022 Desk Calendar upsets me. Mario beams with unbridled delight as he forever averts his gaze from meeting me. Surrounding him is a calendar, the painful reminder of my time in this life continually slipping away. While I come closer to death in every moment, Mario will outlive me. He fears not death and has no notion of life. Nintendo and Mario will live on for as long as humanity does, while I will have only seen a tiny fraction of human history.

Mario is no doubt taunting me in this image, and yet he seems slightly uncomfortable as well. He is unrepentant, but he does not have the gall to look me in the eye. It's as though he knows my fate and pities me. Perhaps he envies me somewhat, too. He is silent, betraying his mirth. He is trapped forever at the top of a jump, and while that may be a moment of jubilation, perhaps it is hollow. Again, I can never truly know.

Maybe I'll switch to the opposite side of the card.

First thing I did in any game was mute anyone but party chat. The only Gen that Nintendo had that I felt absolutely needed voice chat was Tri-Force heroes. Could never tell if people were inept or trolling. But that game worked great as a single player puzzle game.

Has this been talked about?
Sadly it's pretty much impossible for Codename Steam to return as it is, that sub genre of TBS does just not have a wider audience. Even Valkyrie Chronicles 4 has bombed.

Maybe Codename STEAM franchise needs a genre shift? A traditional 3D 3rd person shooter entry could attract mainstream audience to the game's universe before it returns to its original genre?

Wait, what…tacos from a pizza place? I guess you can get wings (that apparently are good) from taco bell now, so maybe it’s the best place for tacos where you are at.

It's run and owned by a Mexican family so I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be mainly a taco place but they sell some Italian food like Pizza to sell to the many very white people in my town.

Oh ok. Makes sense. Most Mexican and Chinese restaurant where I’m from has an “American” section, which is mainly for people with bland taste buds and little kids.

I basically never got to play that game with friends, so I had to play online with randos. There was some weird satisfaction trying to convey puzzle ideas/solutions with only eight emotes lol.

I really want a new multiplayer Zelda game on Switch…

I still think there’s a non-zero chance of multiplayer features in BotW2. Won’t be the same type of experience as Triforce Heroes tho

Had a cool thought during work today: we're totally going to see a Kirby Game & Watch as part of the 30th anniversary. The franchise is ripe for it between 3 mainline games on NES/GB and a handful of spinoffs on the GB they could easily include if they wanted to round out the package some more.

Nintendo will never do NFTs because they’re never going to give even the illusion of players owning some aspect of content in their games.
They also don't need to given the craze that surrounds any of their physical releases. NES Mini mania was real.

Pokemon game where every Pokemon one catches is an NFT that they then legally own.

This genius idea just came to my mind and now that the premise is set I'll let the pros do their magic on the finer details.

Well here’s the list of short stuff in my switch backlog, not as bad as I thought. Should really buckle down and finish hardcore mecha this weekend(note this is minimum completion time according to how long to beat)
Top Hunter(40 minutes)
American fugitive(9 hrs)
Blaster Master Zero 2 (8 hrs)
Cosmic star heroine (13hrs)
Cat Quest (6 hrs)
Dandy Dungeon (8.5 hrs)
Dust (10 hrs)
Fe (5.5 hrs)
Hardcore Mecha (6.5 hrs)
Panzer Dragoon remake (~2 hrs)
Red Wings (4 hrs)
Mummy Demastered (5 hrs)
Oh and Call of Guarez gunslinger is 5 hrs and Ghostbusters is 8ish

I only “Yeahed” this because it is so ridiculously likely to happen with some game series. And they will justify it saying it prevents spoofing real creatures or some shit. Also imagine the organized breeding that will take place. Some shiny Pokémon is going to become a fucking stud like Seattle Slew.

Editing to add to this: imagine how ape shit Fox News and entities like that will go when they see that people are making money from having cute kids characters getting together to breed in an auction house. My word I love this idea.

…and I heard Nintendo is going to release new games this year too! But if you repeat this you have to cite me because I am an insider.

In all seriousness I hope DLC being a part of the subscription is a regular thing going forward. I rarely buy DLC. I can’t explain why that is, but I’m much more likely to engage if it’s part of the service.

This probably has been talked about in great lengths already, but there's some bits I wanted to discuss. How do we feel about BOTW2 in 2022 after listening to Nate's podcast? Also, correct me if I'm wrong but Nate seems to be speculating with a certain notion of... certainness when it comes to a new 3D Mario this year.

also also correct me if I'm wrong again but did I miss the part of a new Donkey Kong in the podcast or has that not been discussed, it probably being a 2023 game?

ALSO ALSO ALSO how do feel about a Pikmin 4 announcement this year, release next year?

Yea. That can be a huge selling point for the NSO down the road. It will be interesting to see if/how it is implemented.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we get Octo Expansion or BotW / AoC DLC added to the EP this year

Mario party superstars seems like an easy dlc candidate

Ideally we aren’t talking just very old expansions. They did it day one for Happy Home Paradise - I want more of that.
I think it will be future DLC day and date. ACNH DLC arguably could have the biggest chance of getting actual purchases based on install base and type of player (many exclusive animal crossing players), so this should be a big part of the expansion pass going forward.

Since it was brought up, I wonder what expansions can and will offer with NSO. Happy Home Paradise was a smart choice to launch the service with. As for games that are currently, there aren't really many that are coming to mind that I think would get an expansion. Maybe Metroid Dread. Mario Party All-Stars seems like the perfect candidate for expansions through NSO. There's Monster Hunter Rise but I don't think you will have to buy that on its own.

For upcoming games, I can definitely see them doing expansions for Splatoon 3 and Pokemon Legends. Maybe DLC for those will be part of the service.

I have a disgusting secret I need to get off my chest.

As of this past month, I've consumed more Cholula straight from the bottle than I have used it as a sauce on something else.
