The next few months are gonna be crazy video game wise for me. Arceus, Elden Ring, Gran Turismo 7, and Kirby. I legit don’t know how I’m gonna find the time for them all.

Every once in a while I like to remind myself how absolutely fucked the Kirby series actually is.

This video should be required viewing for anyone planning on playing the Forgotten Land in order to be prepared for the existential dread and cosmic horror with some sprinkling of personal grief and depression that may await us in that game.

Sometime i think about this

I'm trying to find where you are referencing this from, but not seeing it

Is what I'm seeing, which seems like a reasonable list? It's really just pulling from hospitalized / deceased covid patients files and looking for what coexisting medical conditions there may be that seem to be present with more severe disease
okay but my issue is with the head of the CDC implying that with “four or more” comorbidities, you’re already “extremely unwell” and not worth saving

which would be nightmare-level eugenics bullshit on a good day, but then you look at the list of things they counted as comorbidities

and at first glance there are many of us here riding ten or more

the bingo card is sourced directly from the CDC’s pdf list of COVID comorbidities and yes, I checked

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/health_policy/covid19-comorbidity-expanded-12092020-508.pdf

Just made a cafe in Happy Home Paradise and staffed it with two rabbits. I named it the “Hopped Up Cafe.” Incase you’re wondering, yes, I am a genius.

wowwwww reading the pdf is even more wild than the bingo card?????

“contact with hot tap water” is a comorbidity

dear god, did they really say treatment was worthless?

that's insane
not literally, but the “severely unwell already” thing is pretty literal

just the math on a few of their other statements and how the public responds to those statements and the medical actions based on those statements lead me to say that they imply that

Ok but c'mon

That pdf is a list of every person who passed away due to covid, plus if they have literally any other diagnosis in their file mentioned in their hospitalization. Like if someone has ever put anything in as a diagnosis. I think most people would be surprised at how many 'diagnoses' they have, often times because it's how medical records get documented. And unfortunately there aren't an infinite number of diagnoses in the ICD 10 system we currently use, so sometimes the diagnoses used sound extra insane.

It's a data dump, basically

I'm not trying to take away from the words the CDC director used, they were awful.

Alright, week one of this thread is over!

Week 2 will have a new topic "Coping with COVID", with a new poll going up as soon as I message a mod to reset it.

Week 2 also has a new raffle, this one focusing on pets! Post a picture of your pet or a pet you know, and maybe tell us a little about why it's the cutest dog/cat/ferret/muskrat/vole/iguana/grasshopper in the world. To start, here's my dog:

EhWod42XgAM0UCs

As you can plainly see he is the cutest dog in the world, he enjoys chicken and licking arms incessantly, turn offs include long walks and other animals, turn ons include basically all food except for some reason pretzels.

I'll be figuring out week 1's winner tomorrow and shortly after figure out how exactly to give them eShop money. Stay tuned for the winner announcement!

This is Claude. We adopted him with his sibling Vivi as a bonded pair from Newtown Cat Protection Society early last year. I’d never have known and appreciated how affectionate cats could be until having this one. I’ll reply again to this post as soon as a snap a good photo of Vivi or both of them together.

I've been watching some Apex Legend streams and man, if this came out when I was a teenager or in college, I would probably love it. But I'm over 30 now and I realize that people suck so I'd probably hate Apex if I tried it.

can confirm, my sophomore year of college all three of my dormmates would play it together in separate rooms in the suite lol

Halo 3 came out my freshman year so that was the big game for a few months. I remember hanging out with my friend Tiff at her dorm and bunch of other girls were talking about how no one is getting laid because of Halo 3 lol

Then the big thing became Call of Duty when Modern Warfare came out and that series remained the top game for the remainder of my college years. During freshman year, I did get a few lan games of Age of Empires II and Rise of Nations with my dormmates. The resident assistant got pissed about all of the wires going between the dorms. Oh and Guitar Hero and Rock Band. You were forced to play those a few times a month while living on campus.

yeah

but I think you’re missing my point

which is that what the head of the CDC said is awful

the point is to illustrate two things:
  1. saying that people with four or more comorbidities are “extremely unwell” to begin with — and that if 75% omicron deaths meet that criteria, it’s (real quote) “really encouraging news” — directly suggests that it’s better when people who have more health issues die. That’s what people who don’t do the research will hear. And that is unquestionably a eugenicist statement. Like so many of the statements that have put my partner, me, and countless others at increased risk during this pandemic because we have some of the most at-risk and high-correlation comorbidities.
  2. That further scrutiny of the statement reveals that most people on this board have four or more comorbidities due to the breadth of inclusion, so most of us would be “really encouraging” deaths by this essentially nonsense metric. This is to show how widely these descriptions of who is “unhealthy” and “a drain” and “uninsurable” can be applied — if any of these things would be listed as a comorbidity at your time of death, it is something that can be used against you. I do not say this in a vacuum; I was denied insurance in the US for YEARS due to a brain cyst from birth being a “pre-existing condition.” And my story is one of the less brutal ones I’ve heard from friends and family.
This kind of thinking already kills people. It has killed people I know and care about. I’m saying COVID is gonna stratify it even more. And a couple decades out from this, the horrors of COVID are gonna be fuzzy enough with enough people facing lasting repercussions that it could all get even worse, as it has before.

This is all to say that it is imperative to call out and deconstruct eugenicist statements when you see them!

not just for at-risk people like my partner and I who wake up every day in the pandemic scared shitless, feeling like the whole world would rather go to Applebee’s and watch us die than consider us (and to be clear, YES, PLEASE FUCKING CARE ABOUT AT-RISK PEOPLE)

but also for literally everyone here who can say they have four or more comorbidities from my list, the CDC risk list, the bingo card, or the massive CDC PDF.

because right now me, the ones I love, and almost everyone here are a (once again, real unaltered quote) “really encouraging news” kind of death according to the CDC because we are “already unwell”

Just found out my office will be closed through the end of January, and we will be WFH for the time being.

Omicron really did a number on us in a short time frame.

I hate this hell world

my career will likely start remotely and that's awful

We were still remote when I started a new position in a new department at the beginning of 2021. I would have struggled so much if I wasn't already comfortable with the company and most of my co-workers. I know a lot of people love WFH and I won't deny the benefits, but there is still a lot of value in going to the office IMO.

I was basically remote even before the pandemic. My company is based in another state. I was the first employee hired for their new office. I had a cubicle in the office of another company were are partnered. Even though I had an office to go to, most of my projects were in other states. My boss is located in another state. I did eventually get a few more coworkers at the office but since we often don't work on the same projects, I still mostly do remote work. So the transition to working from home was super easy since I was already basically set up to be a remote worker.

Forgot to mention that I did indeed end up testing positive for COVID on my delayed PCR test, so I've been quarantining for the past 2 weeks after Christmas and was ready to travel back to my apartment NY, only to find out that my roommate there has now been exposed and we need to wait for him to take a PCR test later this week, then 48 hours past that for the results. I'm starting to go stir crazy living in PA with my parents for about a month, as much as I love them lol. If my roommate tests positive, I'll effectively have 2 back-to-back COVID isolations until he gets over the virus :(

The good news is I've used my boredom to begin perhaps my greatest movie-watching binge of all time. I've watched so many legendary and acclaimed movies since I came home on December 18th, I don't know if I'll ever top this streak again in my life lol

I think the one big downside of not having an office is that people may not learn how to properly interact with people in real life. It's basic stuff like knowing you can't just say whatever you want or burp loudly while others are around. I think the lack of real interaction is why so many Youtubers and streamers are weird. Many don't need to engage with people in the real world and their audiences are basically just lines of text who probably won't push back on any of their behavior.

I personally wish I could work from home 😭
Tired of waking up at 5.50am to be at my work place at 7.30am lol
Unfortunately I work in an elementary school so that's out of the question.

So… what happened to that Chrono Cross remake? We’re probably due a Playstation showcase soon as well, maybe it’ll show there? I just want to see it and have it be real, no matter what system it’s on.

Not gonna lie, this thread is a whole lot less fun to be in now since it's all about covid.

I have a very important question to ask!!!

How you all pronounce Arceus??? With an S or with a K?

I was shooketh when I heard the narrator in one of the trailers pronounce it like Arkeus 😱

Ark, if it's right or not I dont know but I am not going to change :D

I've been saying it with a K and nothing will change my brain to say differently

I've been pronouncing it "arkay-us"

No idea what it's supposed to be.

All the Batman retro games from NES/SNES, GameBoy and Genesis would make a fine Legacy Collection in my opinion. Anyone know where I can play some of those games "legally"?

All Sunsoft need to do is reskin their Batman games into something Not-Batman, and then they can be rereleased anywhere!

Anyway; imagine if Nintendo randomly posted this without the the remake announced, lol.

I just remembered that 13 Sentinels is coming to Switch in 3 months. Lots of good quality 3rd party games are coming out and more to come and be announced soon.
For some reason I keep forgetting this is switchbound. Wanted to play it when it originally released, but wanted to be able to play it on handheld.

Arceus has had several different ways of being said but I believe the proper and current way to say it is found in Pokédex 3D Pro which has a feature that will say the name of a Pokémon when selected in a Pokédex-like voice (it only has up to Genesect though) and it is pronounced the same way as in the trailers (Arc-E-Us)
It did have different pronunciations in other media prior to that though.

Somewhat related Silvally has an ability called 'RKS System' which is based off of Arceus. I believe the ability was said in the Anime at one moment, though I don't know how it's pronounced or even if it's supposed too be said the same way as Arceus.

It is difficult to remember the actual ways of saying some Pokemon names because of the inconsistencies back then, but I'd say they've gotten a lot better across the board with being consistent in recent years.
