98% of Nintendo's games are made in Japan while NOA doesn't develop anything. So by this logic, Emily should have absolutely no info about Nintendo.
NOA is the US marketing division essentially and does localization/testing. So things would be further along in the dev cycle before NOA gets involved, but theyd still be in the loop to some degree on general scheduling. I think historically this sorta lines up as i feel leaks tend to be in the >6 month time frame rather than the years. Where partner studios outside of japan tend to be more leaky (word of a 2d Metroid has been around for years). But i dunno?

IT'S FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Whats up!!!
Stayed up until 1AM watching the listening party for The Weeknd's new album. Jim Carrey talking like a beat poet is maybe the best part especially on the very last track, but overall the entire album goes in on the funk, R&B and synthwave. How Do I Make You Love Me?, I Heard You Were Married and Less Than Zero are all fighting to be my favourite song. Can't wait to listen to the album all day today on repeat until I'm sick of it

Up is a 2009 American computer-animated film directed by Pete Docter, and co-written by Bob Peterson. It stars the voices of Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer, Jordan Nagai, and Bob Peterson. The film centers on elderly widower Carl Fredricksen (Asner) and Wilderness Explorer Russell (Nagai), who go on a journey to South America in order to fulfill a promise that Carl made to his late wife Ellie. Along the way, they meet a talking dog named Dug (Peterson), and encounter a giant bird named Kevin, who is being hunted by the explorer Charles Muntz (Plummer).

y'know guys, I've realized something painful

Mario Kart Tour is not Mario Kart 9

the numbered Mario Karts only take into account the games that are on dedicated Nintendo systems. that is the only attribute they all share. the next Mario Kart is Mario Kart 9

no way they call it that though lmao

and you could argue that 8D is 9 but that would be silly

No, you're thinking this the wrong way. Mario Kart is just following Windows naming conventions. You had Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11. You're gonna have Mario Kart 7, 8, 8.1, 10 and 11.

Mario Kart Tour was Mario Kart 9 for the simple reason that Mario Kart X is the perfect name for the next one.

Mario Kart will drop numbered titles from now until Nintendo is doomed, leaving us forever hanging on whether Mario Kart Tour was ever considered the ninth entry or not.

This is like how the Fire Emblem community can't decide if the remakes are considered fully numbered sequels. So is Shadow Dragon on the DS Fire Emblem 10 or is Awakening 10?

Also are the multiplayer Zeldas like Four Swords and Tri Force Heroes mainline games or are they spinoffs? These are the philosophical things that are very important to gamers.

You're all missing the obvious thing here. It won't be Mario Kart 9 or Mario Kart X or anything like that. It's going to be a Pre-Super prequel, Mario Kart 0. It's going to take place in the late 80's, during Japan's Bubble-Era, with neon-lights aplenty

What if Mario Kart, but Midnight Club: Street Racing

NO WAIT I LIKE THIS MORE

Simply for the 80s/90s Japanese Citypop tracklist

Mario Kart 1, set during the backdrop of the Great War. Race with your steam powered karts to bring glory to either the Allies or the Central Powers.

til that Super Circuit was developed by IntSys

holy shit
Yeah, that was back when EAD would barely touch handhelds. The only games I can think of are Link's Awakening, DK 94, Mole Mania, Wave Race, and Mario Advance 2-4. LA began development during the staff's free time and the others were either co-developed by an outside company or ports.

Something changed with the DS. Maybe EAD were leading development from a design point? I can't really find too much info on its development history.

Maybe they realised keeping their main development division away from the biggest part of their business was a little silly?

You know a Nintendo console is successful in EU when there are quite a few DACH-exclusive (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) physical games. A nightmare for collectors.

For example, Bandai Namco published this gem:
PS_NSwitch_GefragtGejagtDasSpiel.jpg

And things are going really well, when physical games like
autobahn-police-simulator-2-physical-retail-release-eur-nintendo-switch-cover-www.limitedgamenews.com_.jpg
release (Autobahn + Police + Simulator, is there even a more Central European game than this? πŸ˜…).

I can see a new Mario Kart being teased this year, but not release until the summer of next year

The combination of german and english in the title makes it read like Autobahn Versicherung.

Where is my Autobahn Raser port, whoeverthehellisresponsibleforitsdevelopment, huh?

Edit: Come to think of it, that would be a perfect Switch game, because it allows you to go racing on the Autobahn while racing on the Autobahn.

From what I remember, more and more staff from R&D 1 were being transferred over to EAD even after the Game Boy line became a thing. Even though the handheld space was more successful, it was probably also much cheaper to maintain.

We know that Nintendo was making a GBA successor codenamed Iris but it was scrapped to work on the DS instead. I wouldn't be surprised if R&D 1 was leading that project too. Maybe the DS was seen as a bigger priority due to the threat of the PSP?

brain just melted out my ears upon learning this
Interestingly enough, I believe it is also shudder the best selling IS-developed game of all time to this day (iirc something like 5.9m sales?).

It also somehow has the highest Metacritic score for an IS game, tied with Paper Mario 64 (both have a 93). Even Awakeningβ€”the highest scoring FE game thus farβ€”"only" has a 92. TTYD only has like, an 87 lol. Guess that adds more fuel on the "ackshually 64 is better than TTYD" fire smh.

Related: Super Circuit is definitely counted as a mainline entry given that there are only 8 (not counting 8 Deluxe) MK games on Nintendo platforms, and the 8th one is called... wait for it... Mario Kart 8. Boom. Blew your minds 😎

Remakes are considered mainline/numbered sequels by most FE communities such as reddit and Serene Forest. Awakening is FE 13, Fates 14, Echoes 15 and Three Houses 16.

Perhaps, yeah, and perhaps EAD had more experience with 3D games, which first came to handhelds on DS? Some obscure part of my brain also thinks that internal development may have gone through a restructure around that time, too. But I think you're right to suggest simple logistics played a big part in resource allocation before then, given how relatively easier it was to make games on the GB systems.

This isn't Alarm For Cobra 11!?!?!?!?!?!
Didnβ€˜t know this show was known elsewhere. πŸ˜„ But no, this is a different IP β€” there is an Alarm For Cobra 11 game on 3DS, though:

At least, we finally have another succesful video game developer...not that it's for me. But because Videogames are still Neuland...
And may I reveal (what a bold leak!) that Autobahnpolizeisimulator 3 is in development, kindly partially funded by the German taxpayer with 998923 € (no joke 😌). Its code name is Pflaumenmus.

Letβ€˜s see whether this one will be better! Despite the negative reviews by critics, the second one even got a sales award by game e. V.!

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Idea: How about a Simulator Simulator? You could simulate playing Simulator games! Which ones will the player choose? Use experience points to unlock even more immersive Simulator games and watch the protagonist play them. πŸ’΅

Man

I've heard some of the album so far, and none of it has that amazing wide open empty-space lofi sound I love ("escape from LA", "tell your friends", the end of "i was never there")

I'm hoping to find some incredible soundscapes that I usually get from his music but I'm wary

After Hours, starboy, and BBTM are three incredible albums back to back to back

I do wonder how many Mario games are going to release within the next couple of years. We're obviously overdue for new Mario Kart and 2D Mario games because Nintendo knew that the sales they got with the Wii U games whilst great for most other games were well below what those games could sell on a better console. Heck it could even be argued we're overdue for the next new 3D Mario game as whilst there has been one already on the Switch that was before 3D World last year and 3D All Stars not long before that which obviously were timed for this interim period. And that's not even getting into the Mario & Luigi series or potentially creating a brand new type of Mario game who knows...

And yeah the elephant in the room is of course the movie and whether or not there will be a big game to coincide with it. When you consider the lineup Nintendo already has Mario-less for the next year or so (barring the technically 3rd party Mario + Rabbids) it will probably look considerably better once the numerous games referred to above are announced, which is saying something considering how big the next Mario Kart/2D Mario/3D Mario will undoubtedly be.

We've been stuck with Donkey Kong Country for too long. It's time for greater ambitions.
