mario kart is honestly a big part of why I think the semisucc could be coming the end of the year

big, long dev cycle games seem to be coming soon. it feels like we'll either get a new switch soon or in five years

Kirby FL to me looks like Kirby is having its 3D Land/World moment. Taking the tried and true 2D gameplay and giving it a new perspective. I guess it doesn’t totally apply since it didn’t come after 15 years of 3D titles like Mario did, but think it fits the spirit of my opinion.
I'm expecting it to be a mix between that and Mario Galaxy, a generally linear experience with a bit more hand-crafted feel to its level design and world connecting them.

Here's a fun thing!

Video game analyst Serkan Toto of Kantan Games tells Gamesindustry.biz that, and I quote:
Mobile Zelda let's go

I don't think Mario Kart 9's long dev time has much to do with them actually needing that amount of time. I believe Nintendo had every intention of releasing a Mario Kart 9 earlier in the Switch's life but the continued success of MK8D keeps pushing back the release date. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo had a mostly complete game for some years now and are just sitting on it. That's not to say they aren't still actively working on it and adding things but it's being strategically held back to release at the most opportune time.

Nintendo is not putting out any more major mobile titles IMO. Maybe a few small games but they've made their position on mobile very clear, as has the mobile market on nintendo's mobile efforts.

Still think a DK minecart mobile game would be pretty neat.

check out this schmovement people

Guess you're not counting the Niantic partnership as Nintendo?

there's no way Pikmin Bloom is making any money outside of selling user data

the microtransactions are very obviously bullshit and even less appealing than other mobile games

I find it very doubtful that Nintendo's in-house teams are going to touch a mobile game ever again. They might greenlight some smaller projects like Pikmin Bloom by outside developers, but by and large they seem pretty done with mobile.

Good.

(Though I do like a bit of Pikmin Bloom.)

golly I sure hope so

EPD is stretched thin enough as is

Plus, we don't want micro transactions to be too normalised in their minds that they start to creep into their console games.

It’s not a rumor by Nate, but from Zell. Same as the other „unbelievable“ Switch game that was in development at one point, I don’t know if we‘ll see that
“Mario on Playstation” was Halo on Switch. There was some interest on putting in some capacity but either plans got scrapped or who knows.

IIRC they were also rumblings of Switch getting Rare games and it will happen soon via NSO Online (“insiders” and journalists mention the chance of a Rare Replay port but I think that was more speculation than specific insider info). So maybe in the future we will see something related to Halo on Switch, the best case would be MCC that includes all XB Original and 360 titles.

The “unbelievable” game is a bit ambiguous IMO, it can mean anything and is a bit subjective. Example: for some people, Crysis trilogy running on Switch is “unbelievable”, for me not so much.

Serkan Toto only predicts an announcement for Mario Kart, not a launch this year. This prediction confirms two important things, clearly and irrefutably:

  • the new Switch and Mario Kart launch together in 2023; Mario Kart is called Mario Kart X Cross-gen Cross-roads, because it launches on every version of the Switch
  • the major Mario title after Sparks of Hope launching this Christmas season is either 2D or 3D Mario; if EPD 8 and EPD 10 worked together, we might even have the first 5D Mario

Most of the EPD mobile games were also co-developed with other studios anyway, even ignoring DeNA. Pocket Camp had NDcube, Mario Kart Tour had Namco, Dr. Mario World had NHN and Line.

It shouldn’t mean anything tho
It might be accurate - timing seems reasonable. It could easily be a placeholder, but if a Direct is coming within the next 5 weeks then I'd guess Nintendo will be updating retailers soon about some of the near term releases?

Nintendo's mobile efforts have been depressing as hell, I think we should do everyone a favour and just never speak of them again.

It can be a standalone device under the PlayStation brand, no issues. No more difficult to grok than PlayStation Vita

They just understandably want to leverage the PS5 power here, but nothing stops them from making VR3 onward as standalone devices.
If Sony tried to sell PSVR as a standalone device it'll fail just like the Vita. Although after seeing how their portable line and the Wonderbook ended I won't be surprised if PSVR ends up being abandoned a few years down the road.
I find myself somewhat selfishly hoping we don't get a FE release this year. With Triangle Strategy, AW 1+2, Metal Slug Tactics, M+R 2, and Marvel's Midnight Suns, the SRPG side of things is being served very well on Switch this year as is. FE can wait until next year.
We're being bombarded with tactical bliss and need no rescue. I agree though, with everything currently slated for release I'd be fine if the rumored FE is pushed back to next year.

Honestly one of the most baffling things I've ever seen a company do is Nintendo putting out goddamn Pikmin and Dr. Mario on mobile instead of Nintendogs.

Was it pride or something? Did they want to be more 'innovative' with mobile stuff like with Mario Run instead of doing the most obvious choice that might-as-well-be tailor-made for mobile? Or did they just lack the foresight to see the golden goose of an IP they were sitting on? I simply can't see a world in which Pikmin Bloom was seen as more of a good investment than "a lifestyle game where you raise cute puppies/kittens."

Nintendogs being completely absent for the past several years is beyond baffling.
