StarTopic Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST8| Press Your (Nintendo Direct) Luck!

I'll say what nobody else has the courage to: Silksong will fall short to expectations and more than 50% of the fans will still consider Hollow Knight as the better game.

Personally this feels like deja vu when last year we said the exact same thing and boom Nintendo announced wario ware, Mario rpg and Mario wonders.
In that case, maybe my post is going to will a Direct into existence.

Not going to be a "boom", even if there's a repeating situation like last year.

Zelda and Mario, Pokemon come with a "boom".

Most other things come with a "bang".

Switch 2 wasn't around the corner last year. Circumstances change. How do people expect them to have a load of software for Q3/Q4 when that was supposed to be a new console launch as of a few months ago (allegedly).

not a load, but the original Switch was always going to have games for the year, and certainly one major (relatively speaking) release for the year for the console esp given likely BC - Metroid Prime 4 still makes sense to be this game at this point as the last major Switch 1 game before the launch of the successor imo

It's definitely going to be interesting to see if Brazil's source was right after all, but I implore all of you to just expect the Indie World and don't set yourselves up for disappointment down the line. I still think Silksong is being saved for Xbox's June show, too.

Imagine is we get a Direct next week or even early next month lol.

EDIT: BTW, apparently Take-2 is preparing for a new Mafia game announcement. Hopefully this means a Mafia trilogy impossible port.

I haven’t been paying too close attention to this thread lately for real life reasons; did we have any solid indication/word an Indie World was coming this week? Like did Pyoro or any other leakers say anything about it?

I only remember Brazil saying there might be an Indie Showcase in March. Guess they moved it to April now.

Makes me wonder if Nintendo has tightened up the ship a little. I feel like usually we’d have heard about this kinda thing before it’s announced.

Don’t call it a comeback. Nintendo is back, next week is the week, prime 4 and silksong dream team, switch 2 in 2026.
31 is your lucky number and I’m out.

Why would Nintendo release Metroid Prime 4 on Switch 1 when they can have it as another big release in the first year of Switch 2? From a business point of view, it makes no sense. They'll have a couple of small titles maybe, ports of old games, but a big hitter like MP4? No way.

They've seen what having an incredible year 1 of a new console does to hardware sales, and will want to repeat that. That's their whole focus atm.

The bulk of Nintendo's first party games aren't developed in-house, though. EOL is published by Nintendo, developed by Arika, will certainly at least have EPD producers attached, and is a license co-owned by Arika and Nintendo. It's as first party as Fire Emblem.

Again, I'm not interested in arguing about the line up this year other than to make the obvious point we don't know the full picture, but Endless Ocean Luminous is objectively and entirely a first party game, published by Nintendo in all regions.
Fair enough, I'll accept that justification

shifted to Switch 2 as exclusive games to fill up the gaps
it's a new frontier of the Wii U ports to Switch strategy
So they'd rather let the switches last year be empty so switch 2 has games that the switch can already play? I don't buy it

WTF Nintendo don’t want this 💩 where is the general #NintendoDirect

Switch 1 has 140+ million install base. They want to release the game they announced for the system on that system with those numbers

Hah, pretty interesting to see a direct announced out of the blue without Pyoro, Nate, Grubb, etc. giving any kind of heads-up. Don't remember the last time that's happened.

Any chance of Silksong? :p

But seriously, it’s nice to finally see something again. I’m still going to not expect an imminent General Direct, but boy it’d be nice and hilarious if it came before June after everything.

Same reason Sony put out TLoU2 and Ghost of Tsushima on PS4 in 2020 instead of holding them for the PS5 launch

Switch has a huge install base that still buys software. Metroid Prime 4 was probably fairly expensive to make, and historically its not a system selling franchise. So if Prime 4 is ready this year but Switch 2 isn't, why not put it out on Switch 1 this year to sell it to those ~140 million potential customers

Yeah. This is a lesson for those who kept saying if we had a Direct this week Pyoro would told us already.
Maybe Nintendo is learning how to keep their secrets back home

I’d like to both give commiserations to Team April (you believed in what you believed in, even if it turned out to be wrong), and also to say HELL YEAH GIVE IT UP FOR TEAM JUNE
I regret to announce that once again, I have been incredibly rash. If there’s an actual Direct next week I’m cooking up a delicious meal of hat and humble pie.

Finally… SOMETHING

This is literally the first piece of Nintendo news we've gotten since the Partner Direct in April, I think we're allowed to start shouting about Chibi Robo remakes.

Hopefully there's something nice here. I'd like anything at this point.

Yup. Nintendo also likes to...make money. They aren't just going to completely punt from August to March and not release anything new.

They also announced Prime 4 for Switch and probably want to save face by making sure it releases on that platform. It could still come out on both Switch 1 & 2 - they've done it before with Twilight Princess on both Wii and GCN and Breath of the Wild on Wii U and Switch.

Especially with indies, which they deal with a lot of. It’s amazing, really. Guess we can expect leaks to run dry

This just reaffirms my belief that we are not getting any first party game announcements before June. May's shareholders meeting is the best chance that we have at any next gen insight.

If the hope/belief of 3rd party support being significantly stronger on the Switch 2 becomes a reality Directs will have a much bigger focus on them than 1st party, and based on some opinions I've read here about recent presentations, I am really dreading their reactions to future ones.
