StarTopic Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST8| Press Your (Nintendo Direct) Luck!

I feel like Nintendo's promotion/marketing really dropped after mid March. Can't shake the feeling that they had a gaping hole in the marketing schedule after the delay (since it was rumored to be announced in March originally) and never figured out how to fill it so they're just coasting rn

I'm convinced that Nintendo was still planning on Switch 2 launching this year until a couple of months ago. Now, there is a lot of scrambling going on internally to figure out how to keep everyone engaged.

whenever the next Direct is i have a feeling it will be more of an "emergency" direct than whatever they had originally planned

i have commented this a few times now, but truly all i need is DQ3 to be announced and release soon.

i realize this has nothing to do with nintendo precisely, but every time a direct comes around, it slightly increases the likelihood that it could be announced. pls.

I feel the same way about the Suikoden collection right now.

I have to agree with this. I honestly wonder how much momentum they lose overall with the gap this year. Things were running super high with the movie, 2023 sales/lineup and now things have just seemed to stall in 2024.

I was able to recover some footage of Nintendo's marketing team office after the Switch 2 was delayed.

i can say with full confidence that the next Nintendo direct will be the best direct of tge switch. The internet said after the wiiu and 3ds server closed that Nintendo is at it’s best when they’re struggling (that’s why the wiiu era was better than the switch era qualitywise) and since they’ve delayed the switch 2 to next year they’re struggling again for this year so we’re going to finally see Nintendo at it’s peak yet again. Pls get hyped uncontrollably now.

I have to imagine that the console was supposed to be revealed either late last month or early this month and they would've maybe had a couple weeks of highlighting features about it leading into June (which is when I assume the larger event for it would've been)

There is no need to overthink it, just port Twilight Princess and Wind Waker lol.
They should be easy ports, and big enough to cover two months of H2 2024 on their own.

If we don't get either of those games this year, then all of that talk about those games being "ready to ship" for years is total bs. You are right. Those are easy schedule fillers for Nintendo in a year where they will most likely need them.

The concept of Wind Waker HD getting ported is still a little funny to me cause it'd remove one of the single best changes made to the game that was simply cause it was on the WiiU. The gamepad map and item screen that let you easily check where you were going in real time without pausing, and let you switch items very quickly.
This is also in TPHD, OoT3D and MM3D, but it was simply way more useful in WWHD because of that game's boat structure where you'd likely be sailing the sea without many landmarks for a bit.

I picture one of those glass “Break in case of emergency” cases at Nintendo’s offices that has a double pack of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess for Switch inside

Nintendo whenever fans start daydreaming about Zelda double packs happening again after Zelda became mainstream:

I’m just so bored in the Nintendo speculation world. I wish an upcoming Direct date would leak lol

As much as I would love it, I still don't see Nintendo doing Wind Waker and Twilight Princess together.

It just feels like putting together two games that, as much as it would frustrate some people, would them make a lot more money by splitting them into two releases AND it would give them more chances to fill the calendar with Zelda while working on a new Zelda game, which is obviously going to take a while. They would probably make quite a bit more money even if they made them budget ($50) titles and sold them separately than by selling them together.

Didn't post a question yesterday so everyone in the path of the eclipse could enjoy it, myself included. That changes today though!

Will we see any movie news (be it live action Zelda, the Mario Bros sequel, or something else) in the next Nintendo Direct?
Not until next year.

All these Bravely teases from Asano makes DQ3 appearance in the next Direct less likely, IMO. Bravely sure is to be next from Team Asano.

I don't know what's going on with DQ3 development but I suspect it won't be the same game we saw years ago. Wouldn't be surprised to see the game evolved into something like Star Ocean 2 remake in the meantime.
I have no idea what happened to that. At least Eiyuden is nearly here
My guess: They're also remastering 3&4 and decided to have the 1&2 launch close to that. The whole "serve while it's hot" thing.

Maybe they'll do 5+Tactics too.

No matter how bad the rest of 2024 is for software, if we get WW/TP, that makes it a top-3 year for Switch personally

I'm pretty interested in seeing just what Dragon Quest 3-HD is. Is there anything extra? Any changes? Quality of life improvements?

I love DQ3, it's one of my favorite (and first) JRPG's, but I've played through it quite a few times now. I'm not really interested in a 1:1 remake without any changes since I don't mind retro/pixel graphics.

They'll announce twilight princess and winkwaker HD and call it a day for the holiday.

Or they could announce a new Hyrule Warriors based on TOTK and which would tell about the Imprisoning War (Hyrule Warriors: The Imprisoning War).

Technically, for the moment nothing allows us to talk about gap

In the first half of 2024, 5 games were released by Nintendo: two completely new games (Princess Peach Showtime and Endless Ocean) and 3 remasters (Mario versus Donkey Kong, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Arlo HD).

Now, whether the interest in these games is not gigantic or comparable to the release of tears of the kingdom in May 2023 is obvious, but I fully expect that the second half of this year will receive about the same amount of games.

A year in which you release 10 games is not a gap year. Now, obviously, the hype will depend on the games planned for the second half. It is certain that remasters of Zelda, Metroid, Galaxy 2 or Donkey Kong will be welcomed with less enthusiasm than Metroid Prime 4, a new Donkey Kong game, a new 2D Zelda or a new Mario party.

But right now we’re talking about what we don’t know, so personally I’m careful not to draw conclusions about momentum or that sort of thing.

Beat Unicorn Overlord today, what a great game - fully recommend it while you wait for a Direct.

This is currently how my H1 looks like, and there's always something coming in from the side but these are my safe bets.

Prince of Persia - beaten
Unicorn Overlord - beaten
Planet of Lana - April
Tales of Kenzera: Zau - April [Pending reviews]
Paper Mario TTYD - May
Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley - June [Physical release]
Monster Hunter Stories HD - June
Luigi's Mansion 2 - June

Despite a somewhat quiet year from Nintendo in terms of brand new releases, I am still getting quite a bit of games, both brand new and a couple of remasters thanks to some really good third party games. And combining this with a bit of backlogged games I consider myself in a pretty good gaming mood even as a mostly Switch gamer.

Also, I might be showing my clownface now.. but I wont rule out Silksong releasing in the next 3 months either :]

With that said, it would be cool with a direct to! Because it's always fun, spawns a lot of discussion - good or bad - and the most important part, I always get a couple of the games showcased to,

That's a very fair point and good response, much appreciated!

I think it just "feels" like more of a stall/gap than it really is... because the funny thing is I'm playing my Switch more so far this year than I did last year when I look at it. I've really been playing my backlog on top of new games (right now... Pokemon Violet, Unicorn Overlord, Bloodstained Ritual of the Night and Penny's Big Breakaway) so in reality, 2024 has treated me really well so far and I'm very excited to experience Paper Mario TTYD for my first time ever soon.

I don't believe that Nintendo just postponed the launch of its new hardware and all of a sudden stood there with a lack of games. I cannot see that things were rushed. Internally multiple scenarios must have been in the works/planning since quite a while with a 2025 hardware launch as an option, accompanied by a Switch 1 software portfolio for 2024 and the holiday season. As their H1 games are all announced, the next thing to expect from them is their H2 announcements and I would not expect these before summer (hopefully in a general direct).

Overall this year have been extremely tame for all console this year, despite getting FF7, Helldiver 2, yakuza, persona 3 and dragon dogma 2 this year.

Like this feels like 2016 in which everyone are chilling and preparing for a bombastic next year, similar to 2017.
But the second half can maybe surprise us with the amount of solid games coming and also games still not being announce.
Like we'll might get prime 4, astro playroom, indiana jones and silksong.

But hopefully we'll see an direct this april for switch titles and a switch 2 direct for switch 2 games.

I’m the only hoping for a 3DS OOT+MM collection instead? ☹️

WW and TP don’t need a remaster, they can save them for a ultra turbo 4K ray tracing edition for Switch 2.

Honestly, since we know the schedule for the first semester, I wouldn’t really mind if the next Nintendo Direct was only in June. I am convinced that there is still something to do an excellent last nintendo Direct exclusively for the switch 1, and I do not know if it is necessary to position it as soon as possible.

To choose I am more eager for the date of the switch 2 to be confirmed than I would hypothetically be disappointed if the next Nintendo Direct was only in June.

So I would gladly exchange a Nintendo Direct in April for an announcement on the switch 2.

It'll be something like pikmin 1+2 in which the cartridge contains both games
That release really pissed me off. $30 each, barely even touched up. I don't get how people made a fuss about 3D All-Stars and Skyward Sword but this absolute robbery went under the radar.

I know I am looking too far ahead now since we haven't even made it to the halfway point of this year but do you all think that, no matter where the next General Direct lands (April or June) that we also will see a Direct in September? Would a June Direct affect this? We'll probably have an answer within the next Direct (namely from what is announced) but I could see the Directs for this year being

February - Partner Showcase
April - General Direct
(Somewhere between the time of this Direct and the end of the Investors meeting) - Official Acknowledgement of the Next Console
June - Maybe the Indie World or a smaller Direct/Partner Showcase
September - General Direct

and then maybe admist all this, depending on what is shown in the April General, a Game Specific Direct as well?

It probably feels like a gap because we haven't had a General Direct in seven months. We're getting games, just not Directs, so we're kinda flying blind and it makes it seem like nothing's coming.

I feel like once someone says this, we are always two weeks or less away from a Direct
I'm tellin yall, the 17th. Book it.

The quality of a Direct is in the eye of the beholder imo. Like, we could get a so-called "mid" Direct that reveals FE4R and nothing else of note and it'd still be one of the best Directs of all time for me lol.

One of my favorite games of all time was shown as the one-more-thing at the end of what many people point to as one of the worst Directs of the Switch era, so yeah 😅
