StarTopic Nintendo Direct Speculation |ST8| Press Your (Nintendo Direct) Luck!

I still think the rest of the year is going to be something like FE4, remasters and ports like maybe TP/WW, and a new multiplayer game like a sports title or a Mario Party.
Mario Party is done on Switch

It's time for an actual attempt at Animal Crossing Party

If the TP/WW bundle exists, then it has to be announced next Direct imo. This is the time to break the emergency glass given the sudden Switch 2 delay, so the only reason to not release them is that they never existed in the first place.

Oddly enough it looks like Nintendo are shifting to Thursday releases in the next fiscal year. Endless Ocean Luminous, Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD are the first three titles for the new fiscal year and they are all releasing on a Thursday.

I'm weirdly okay with this change. It feels like we're getting games a day early.

This is unrelated, but does anyone else remember when games didn't actually hit store shelves until a day after their official release date? This drove me up the wall in the 2000s and I'm glad it's no longer a thing.

I don't post much here, but just passing by to say that I love these direct speculation threads!

April Direct makes sense to hype up TTYD and LM2. I still don’t think we’ll get TP/WW bundle or MP4.

We’ll see.

I'm saying if there's no indie world then his report on a April direct would also be unlikely
Ah gotcha.

Well, there's no major releases from Nintendo at this point for the month of April.

If Brazil is also wrong about April Direct, what happens during month of April then? Maybe shadow drops?

I'm kind of expecting (hoping) that an FE4 remake would be in July and need a few months of space before release at minimum, like FE15 had in 2017. So... April Direct truthers, I'm with you!!
I'm with you on this one! There's room for at least one more summer game in July or August, and I think FE4 remake would fit well in that slot. In that case, announcing it in April would make more sense than waiting until June.

All I'm waiting for is :

  • Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
  • Metroid Prime 4

It would be a great end of life for Switchi. The rest is a bonus, for me.

On the other hand, I'm going to say a very unpopular opinion !

I don't want Mario Party or The Legend of Zelda. There's been enough of that on Switch. I'd rather have the lesser-known or unreleased licenses like Kid Icarus, Starfox, Wario Land and others. Switch has a huge installed base. There are still millions of active players. I think we need to keep releasing to gauge popularity.

:)

This is the first Nintendo Direct Speculation thread that I have been a part of at the start of it so, I have to say, I am particularly excited for this speculation era!!

I do feel like, no matter what, we probably don't leave May without a General Nintendo Direct, so I am excited for what may be a couple of weeks to two/three months of speculation!! :)

What day are we feeling in April? Early April, mid-April, late April?
I'm feeling maybe around the second week of April (the 10th maybe?)! It could be earlier as well (the 3rd?) but, for some reason, I'm feeling like the tenth could work! I also wonder if this will be a Wednesday or Thursday Direct! I used Wednesday dates but obviously the Thursday ones work as well!

Let's check the recent first party release slate to predict what we get in H2 2024.

Super Mario Wonder
Super Mario RPG
Another Code Recolection
Mario vs Donkey Kong
Princess Peach Showtime
Endless Ocean
Paper Mario TTYD
Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

I'm not a betting man, but I'd count on there being at least two more Mario series games this fall. Paper Mario is a strong candidate and I bet we get one more thing like a port of NSMB Wii or Mario 3D Land.
We have Wonder, NSMBU and Mario Maker 2. The Switch doesn't need NSMBWii.

3D land is a great game stranded on a dead system.

What the Switch really needs is an original 2D Zelda, but I would also take a port of ALBW.

The Switch doesn‘t, but I need it.

We truly are in uncharted waters this time.

Nintendo has broke all the patterns and only god and Pyoro can help us now

remasters will be doing the heavy lifting for Switch in 2024 for sure, with that in mind it seems silly to hold off releasing WWHD and TPHD (Although I could see only coming this year and the other in 2025/6 to spread out Zelda releases)

Metroid Prime 2 and 3 HD should come this year before 4, maybe Prime 2 in April followed by 3 and a double pack physical release in August/September? Fire Emblem remake in July and possibly FZero GX in October.

I manifest Metroid Prime 4 coming this holiday season with the reveal trailer being shown at the April Direct.

Ancient Chozo, I call forth thee. I bathe in Phazon and summon the ancient ones in order to get the technical marvel 95+ MC GOTY 2024 revealed next month and released this year.

Amém.

we never used to close threads because of partner showcases...

the new guard calls the shots now, we're just along for the ride
But if patterns are broken and the typical February slot was taken by a Partner, and the next typical Direct slot wouldn't be until June, is it truly preferable to have a Direcc Specc Thread open for potentially six months?

Love that OT. Immediately started humming the classic version of the theme while Rod Roddy's voice over played in my head!

Anyway...still hoping that we get that Nintendo Musou game to help close the year out. Zelda and Mario being my two biggest guesses for which could get the nod. Zelda, if you want the typical Musou sequel to Age of Calamity with more chars, stages and a new story. Mario, if you're ready to move on to another, yet still major Nintendo property, and want to take advantage of this being a year with otherwise no "new" Mario releases to stand out from the pack. Bonus if the game is cross-platform and takes advantage of the Switch 2 for better performance.

Metroid Prime 4 pretty much "has" to show up here, if we're to have any hope of Grubb's possible "Metroid blowout" in the summer to happen.

I have decided not to harm myself further, so my expectations are:

  • June direct for H2 release
  • January 2025: Switch 2 announcement
  • March 2025: Switch 2 showcase
  • May 2025: Switch 2 release
Maybe an indie world in April/May if we are lucky.

I am here with insider knowledge that the FE4 Remake is going to be released on July 25th, 2024.

I can report this because that’s the same day Frostpunk 2 comes out, and a cruel god is going to make me pick which one I want to play first.

Seeing as I'm launching this thread on Mario Day, if we do indeed get a Mario sports game in this next direct, what sport will it be?
A whole variety of sports, because it's going to be the fabled Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 :)
