Luckily we banned Mr Bones for being an alt (or maybe we banned all of their alts. There were so many).

Speaking of NSO I wonder if Pokemon could potentially have some NSO titles announced next week
someone in the NSO thread jokingly(?) suggested they'd drop Pokemon Pinball, Pokemon Pinball GBA, and Pokemon Puzzle Challenge, and ever since I saw that I've really had an itch to play Pokemon Puzzle Challenge so I hope that's what ends up happening

Call me old-fashioned, but I think the way we used to do it:
  • Close the thread the second a Direct is announced
  • Open a new thread sometime after the Direct is over
worked perfectly. I think turning the speculation thread into a spoiler containment thread is messy - this thread builds its own culture, memes and jokes throughout its lifetime and it's a shame to suddenly exclude anyone who doesn't want to be spoiled when the bird starts chirping. A separate spoiler thread, with its own culture and memes and jokes, feels like a much better solution.

Given the ship has already sailed on this, I think we should absolutely close this thread after the Direct. We still have the Switch 2 thread and there'll be another one of these in short order. But I think separating them by the Directs they eventually precede is just much cleaner.

EDIT: And I hope the decision doesn't just ultimately come down to votes on a poll. It's very easy to click to vote without thought or rationale. Ideally the decision we make is one that makes sense and actually has a reasoning behind it.

So to have a partner direct only to basically have a general direct 2 months later, I assume that's gotta be a reschedule because that's an awkward timed direct. Feels like it was going to take place in June originally before the delay but they pushed it up so June can now be the Switch 2 reveal month. Otherwise I can't really understand having two directs 2 months apart.

Also if this is the case, in 4 months, we'll have:

  • Partner Direct (with some 1st party announcements)
  • Pokémon Presents
  • Indie Direct
  • Nintendo Direct (Like partner direct but with more 1st party I guess?)
  • Switch 2 reveal

That's a lot of showcase activity

Amazing how quickly the general mood went from “video games are dead and 2024 killed them” to “WHOAH hold on there buddy, that’s a lotta content!”

I'm more confused on why they'd have 2 directs, one smaller one and one bigger one, within 2 months of each other instead of combining them. That's why I assume it was supposed to be their summer showcase.

Also it'd be weird for them to announce the console 8-9 months ahead of its release when even the Switch only got 5 coming off of the flop Wii U when they really needed to take the spotlight off of its dying console

Probably contracts stated games had to be announced by a certain date and April is too far away to announce them.

I know I’m dreaming but I’d love it if MGS collection vol. 2 made an appearance
With peacewalker … I really would rather not get out my dusty old ps3 to play that game…

Plus I like all my saves to be in one spot

A lot of third party developer probably have come to rely on Nintendo Directs and States of Plays to reach bigger audiences for the marketing of their games. If there isn't one at their regularly expected times, it could throw things off. Even if Nintendo doesn't have anything themselves they want to show off, it doesn't hurt to have Partner Showcases to give their other game companies more visibility.

How is vol. 1? I thought I heard it didn't run well on switch, so I held off on getting it.

The Switch had longer than 5 months, it just didn't have an official name. Breath of the Wild was being advertised for Wii U and "NX" in June 2016, the same exact timeframe we're looking at here.

Imagine if after we get all these showcases/directs:
  • Partner Direct
  • Pokémon Presents
  • Indie Direct
  • Nintendo Direct
  • Switch 2 reveal

Nintendo follows up on their statement from years ago and stops making directs, officially ending the "Nintendo Direct Era" to make way for some new form of showcase for the next generation

I'm curious if anyone has insight as to why Nintendo would unveil the console relatively early (June vs. the October reveal of Switch in 2016). Wouldn't that only get in the way of selling more Switch's this year?

Perhaps it’s about third party marketing opportunities. If they show up in June, it does nothing to disrupt plans around things like SGF incorporating Switch 2.

I never really got the whole "Directs will go away and we'll get a new type of showcase" thing. There's only two types of presentations: in person and online, and after COVID we're never going back to the former. Anything online will be similar to a Direct anyways, so why change it?

Did they say they'd stop directs at one point?

Yeah, I don't see what they could do differently, that would be worth changing to.

I guess we'll have to wait for April for more on TTYD and LM 2 HD then. I'm guessing they will skip Twitter drops if a direct is coming in April.
I think I agree unless this Partner Showcase does reveal something that's smaller (the rumored Endless Ocean maybe?) that'll allow them to still have something dated after Princess Peach: Showtime! or one of the two is dated for late-ish April (I would probably think LM2 HD just because we have seen more of it seemingly!)!! :D

Actually, the more I think about it, the more likely I think TTYD is to appear here, which is making me more excited. FE Warriors 3 Hopes was in the last Partner Showcase, so this type of trailer isn’t unprecedented. I guess I will watch this Direct upon release after all!

It’s funny because the last time I watched a Direct only hoping for one specific game was YEARS ago when I was a kid… as I grew up and found new franchises to take interest in, I went into Directs with a more open mind. But now 12-year-old switchum is BACK baby

tbf, in 2018 they did a mini in January and then a general in March, so it's not unheard of to have directs 2 months apart like that

Personally I think "partner, then early general (or at least a mini)" was always the plan. The idea was probably that in between, there'd have been a Switch 2 announcement that would maybe let them show those games from the second direct running on new hardware (or at least acknowledge "these will run on new hardware")

It'll be interesting though to see how the rumored Switch 2 delay changes things going into an April direct where the Switch 2 is potentially still not officially announced yet

Can we just get Gen 3, those games you listed are neat but I’ll be honest I’ll never play them.

I just want to be able to trade stuff into home from those games legitimately.

It’s just…The Direct is such a part of Nintendo’s identity at this point. Why ruin it?

How else would they go about it?
Live stream of a Nintendo themed carnival?

Have Takahashi shoot an arrow through an apple thats on top of Koizumis head?

Miyamoto head bobbing for notes in a bottle to reveal what games are coming in random order?

Pie eating contest between Aonuma and Yoshio to see who gets final reveal spot?

okay we do not need to be converting @xghost777 into energy unless it's accompanied by a rad-ass transformation sequence
This is accurate
