Lack of playable Diddy in Returns is an easy point deduction. Great game otherwise.
I really wish if they continue the DKCR style they made it easier to play as the other Kongs. You can play 3D World without touching Mario once, really don't see a downside to it.Lack of playable Diddy in Returns is an easy point deduction. Great game otherwise.
What da!?I grew up playing DKCR
I always thought Donkey Kong Jr grew up to be current Red-Tie Donkey KongI am this forum's #1 Donkey Kong Jr and Dread Kong fan for a reason. Let's just hope EPD feels the same
Why does everyone say this? There was only 1 jungle beat game and it was 19 years ago. EPD has changed a lot since thenIf some EPD is really working in this, expect more like a Jungle Beat type without bongos of course, than a DKC Rare/Retro type. I'm fine with a JB DK type, if old crews returns (Kongs, Kremlimgs, animal buddies).
IMO we should boycott Tropical Freeze until Nintendo releases the soundtrack. Not surprising that the most exciting part of Tropical Freeze is when you return to the island
I was 10 when that game came out lolWhat da!?
I remember one of the interesting things from Did You Know Gaming's video on DK64 is that, iirc, it was originally going to be a 2.5D game but they felt pressured from Mario 64 to just go 3D.If EPD Tokyo is really doing a Donkey Kong game, I expect it to be a game that constantly switches between the 2D and 3D perspective (think of SMG2 on steroids).
Would solve the 2D game hire and the long development time questions and it's what I would expect from a completely new take on DK from EPD which are not ones to reiterate much on works from other developers.

I wonder if a DK game that merged the two in a Yoshi's-Crafted-World-But-Good approach would work.

DKC Returns was a really big seller though, like 6.5 million.
My opinion is that there are already enough easy platformers, DK offers a different experience for people who want a little more challenge.
Between the Wii and 3DS Returns is well above 9m. I really, really hope it gets and HD port with normal controls, 60FPS and the extra levels that Monster Games made. It would honestly be a 10/10 game for me, and every bit as good as Tropical Freeze.

Jungle Beat was made during a particularly tumultuous time for the DK IP. The series spent an entire console generation and change flailing around and trying new ideas. That isn't the case now. There's two recent and successful games with an established formula, and both were made with supervision of Nintendo's Japanese branch (keep in mind Tanabe was a producer on both games).I don't think Jungle Beat bad, is actually a good game. I just don't see Nintendo Japan making a DK like Rare or Retro, they made JB, so that's the only reference so far of what expect from a DK by them.
That's literally what they're doing, at least publicly it's on hiatus. But presumably it will be over soon.for a franchise on hiatus
Sure, that's why I said it can't be for nothing.. the inner plans for revitalizing the series are very apparent, even if you buy the rumors or not. That's literally what they're doing, at least publicly it's on hiatus. But presumably it will be over soon.
I believe this. However, I feel the DK title will be on the current Switch, and very likely will be the holiday title this year.Greetings, Famiboards. I hope everybody is having a nice week!
Stuff.
As if I didn't hate that franchise already lolreminder that if that's true call of duty directly killed donkey kong
Well I’m pretty sure you’re right about Zippo at leastGreetings, Famiboards. I hope everybody is having a nice week!
The reason Donkey Kong has been on hiatus for so long isn't because Nintendo doesn't know what to do with DK; on the contrary, DK's big comeback game has been in development since at least 2016. Vicarious Visions, the developers of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, were working on an open world 3D DK game following the release of Skylanders: SuperChargers. Miyamoto was contributing design ideas and loved what he saw, but for various reasons, the project was shelved and development shifted over to EPD Tokyo in 2018, sometime after the release of Super Mario Odyssey.
Now, this is where the confusion stems from. Everybody assumes that this new Donkey Kong game is going to be a 2D platformer—and it very well could be—due to job listings and because they refuse to entertain the thought of Nintendo investing the resources into an ambitious DK game when they could just make a new 3D Mario instead. However, the game that was in development prior to the shift was most definitely NOT 2D. Other than a few minor details, such as Pauline being a playable character, this is all I know about the cancelled DK project.
This is speculation on my part, but I think the real reason why we haven't seen this new game yet is because Nintendo is going to surprise the world by announcing the first 3D Donkey Kong game since 1999. I believe it's going to be a launch title for their next system and serve as the big ape's Breath of the Wild moment—a complete rethinking of the franchise and its conventions. Behind the scenes, Miyamoto has been championing for a major DK brand revitalization, hence the theme park expansion and rumored spin-off film. He wants DK to be an A-tier franchise again, and he was reportedly behind the push to bring the franchise "home" and develop it internally. Now, you're free to disregard my post as wishful thinking and accuse me of peddling "fake news" or whatever, but this cancelled DK game has been common knowledge in certain circles for years. I am not revealing anything new, other than questioning why they would cancel an ambitious 3D game that everybody at EPD loved—including Miyamoto himself!—and make a 2D platformer instead. However, no matter what genre this new game is, I am confident that Nintendo has DK’s best interests at heart and it won't be much longer before we hear about it.
Zippo is full of shit, by the way. He lies constantly and piggybacks off other insiders. Don't believe a word he says about DK or anything else. EPD is more secure than the Pentagon. The only reason we know about this game is because of western sources who were involved in the cancelled Vicarious Visions project.

Actually, Crash is to blame.reminder that if that's true call of duty directly killed donkey kong
The true great ape war.Donkey Kong was a casualty of war
Interesting to note is that 2016 is when the founders of Vicarious Visions left and founded Velan. The first game they released was Mario Kart Tour.
A very interesting rumor. We shall see how this pans out in due time.Greetings, Famiboards. I hope everybody is having a nice week!

You want DK to hang out with his murderer??Crash/DK crossover when
Activision pulled the plug on a collaboration with Nintendo for Donkey Kong that had smooth development AND Miyamoto approval, to...resuscitate Crash Bandicoot?Actually, Crash is to blame.
I won't be disappointed if the new Donkey Kong game is a 2D platformer, given that I'm a tremendous fan of DKC and EPD Tokyo is the best developer in the industry, but I'm having a hard time reconciling that with what I know about the "shelved" game. Like, imagine if Retro Studios rebooted Metroid Prime 4 and made Metroid Dread instead. Only in this case, development was going smoothly before Nintendo/Activision pulled the plug.
One is an IP you own and the other is one you don't. It's not impossible for a dev team to just prioritize that.Activision pulled the plug on a collaboration with Nintendo for Donkey Kong that had smooth development AND Miyamoto approval, to...resuscitate Crash Bandicoot?
no disrespect but idk about that.
Because we're all just bananas and this rumor is appealing. Why did the entire Donkey Kong fandom on this site decide to go apeshit today lmao
Crash N. Sane trilogy sold a ton though, I still don't believe this though, better bring those references.Activision pulled the plug on a collaboration with Nintendo for Donkey Kong that had smooth development AND Miyamoto approval, to...resuscitate Crash Bandicoot?
no disrespect but idk about that.
to be fair i did not see this before i went on my DK crusade in the kirby thread lmaoWhy did the entire Donkey Kong fandom on this site decide to go apeshit today lmao
yeah this is fair. idk, the part about things going well and Miyamoto loving it too puts me off.One is an IP you own and the other is one you don't. It's not impossible for a dev team to just prioritize that.
