Jim Jarmush Metroid movie starring Tilda Swinton as Samus, an old former miner who has lost her ability to crawl due to cartilage breakdown who now spends her days tending to her garden. Other characters are her annoying landlord Ridley played by Bill Murray and her former foreman Adam played by Adam Driver begging her to come back because inexperienced as he is he's running down the business.

How much of a betrayal is it if my spouse just got a Series S in the mail and I'm really excited to set it up and watch her play Sunset Overdrive?

Played it some months ago, it was the first Series S game i finished. Had a lot of fun. The brazilian voice acting was spot-on.

That's it for LM3. I gotta say, it was better than Mario Odyssey, but Odyssey had the better ending for me. That team at Next Level games were on steroids making this one. Joy to play and to look at. From animations to level design, they knocked it out of the park.
I'm still chipping away at LM3 and honestly I wish it was a little bit shorter than it is. Good game overall but it's starting to drag a bit, think I'm close to the end though.

I found weird to see people being unconvinced that Nintendo would give a big budget to Metroid.

Prime 4 is definitely going to be on the expensive side and that was planned from the begining. The initial dev team was spread accross many studios, just like many AAA games are made nowadays.

LM 3 is fantastic. LM1 is great, and LM2 was a fun if occasionally annoying surprise, but LM3 is the game that convinced me that Luigi's Mansion deserved to be a series that gets sequels.

Also, if Metroid ever gets an animated movie, Genndy Tartakovsky NEEDS to direct. That man gets animated movement like no one else.

I mean, with the way they handled Dread, I fully believe that Nintendo are making a big effort to grow the Metroid series and they obviously have to put a big budget behind it to achieve that, but that specific "rumour" sounded like bs even before we knew it was a complete fabrication.

So maybe I'm just an idiot (likely), but this article claims that he said this on today's Last of the Nintendogs podcast. I just listened to the whole thing and don't think I ever heard him say anything like it??
Yeah apparently they fabricated the entire story. Weird.

Just had a very close contact test positive for COVID-19, and I just saw him last night. All of the PCR and rapid testing sites are fully booked for at least two weeks, so I had to order at-home PCRs from Walmart. 2 day shipping, plus 2 days for results at a minimum :( No symptoms so far, but I'm feeling down, Fami

That sucks, hope things turn out well!

It will be big, but not hiring a famous actor "big." I don't think the franchise has reached that point yet.

Damn, hoping for the best fit you.

I've been playing the new ratchet and clank a good bit today. Game is stunning

I know it sucks but if you're vaccinated, which I hope you are, then you're well protected and most likely, at worst, you'll just feel like crap for a few days. Even better protection if you got your booster. So I wouldn't panic over it. Just avoid going out for several days while you wait for your test results.

Vaxxed and boosted, which is great. The scary part is we just visited my 80-year-old grandparents today before I heard from my friend. Thankfully they're also vaccinated, but I'm much more concerned about them than me.

When GameCube came out, one of the first games I got was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I LOVED that game. I was obsessed with it. Haven’t played much Sonic since then, though. I enjoyed Mania and I recently picked up Colors but haven’t given it a shake yet.

@NateDrake, both Nintendo Life and Arlo are predicting that Grezzo is working on something Mother-related, a la Link's Awakening style remake of the first or all 3 games. Any thoughts on this for next year?
NotDrake, but that sounds surprising. The series hasn't been furthered since Itoi declared it complete, which I respect -- both his declaration and the adherence to that. A sequel or spinoff or such seems unlikely, unless we stretch Mother-related and suggest a spiritual successor could be in the works. Even then, I wouldn't necessarily have settled first on Grezzo for such an idea.
A remake could be possible, largely more akin to their work on Link's Awakening than on creating a Mother experience from scratch. As much as I hate to see the likely demise of the pixel art in such a case --and, really, a graphics/music setting toggle for Link's Awakening would have made sense-- a remake seems like the most likely path for Mother Trilogy to release in the current day. And, given the previously noted Link's Awakening remake, Grezzo might actually be up to such a task.
An Earthbound remake makes a ton of sense right now. It looks like Nintendo is using remakes to test market viability for old IP's (2D Metroid (Samus Returns), Famicom Detective Club, Advance Wars) and I could easily see Earthbound being next. Have a feeling F-Zero is on the way too (although it would probably be a remaster of the Gamecube version). I know some people don't like remakes, but this is a best case scenario IMO.
A remake does seem the most likely way to get a Mother trilogy released, though I find it doubtful this would be a viability test. As noted, Nintendo has, thus far, followed Itoi's statement that the series is complete.

What could be interesting is spiritual successors. I mention this often enough, but Honne at MonolithSoft once pitched a Mother game for GameCube to Iwata and Itoi. Interestingly, he went for a felt-based aesthetic rather than the clay-based used in the manual and in promotional material.
I, for one, would obviously be interested in seeing what Honne's Mother game would have been, but perhaps with the serial numbers filed off, a spin of his own.

If you caught it, it would usually take longer than <24 hours for you to become sick enough to transmit it yourself

Original trilogy, Sonic and Knuckles, Mania, the GBA games, Colors, and Generations are all pretty great. I also personally liked the Adventure games but mileage my vary.
A thousand times this. The Sonic series is at worst hit-and-miss, and the hits hit.

In other raccoon news my best friend has COVID

not a good raccoon week
Just chiming in quickly: Hope he has a speedy and, most importantly, trouble-free recovery!

Omicron REALLY hit hard. Doesn't look great over here in Germany. Everyone's getting infected left and right, not enough people eligible or willing to get the booster shot. Sigh.

I seem to have hopped onto a dour page here.

I hope y'all and all y'all's make expeditious recoveries; beyond that, stay safe and healthy.

I haven't spoken to my "best friend" since 2016. It's only tangentially related to the thing that broke up friendships that year. He and another friend were going at it over socialism or something over a Facebook group chat. I said nothing other than explaining to a third friend the different between socialism and communism. My best friend then unfriended me on Facebook sometime after and we haven't spoken since. I think the theory among the friend group is that he thinks I'm some raging communist simply because I know the definition of things I guess.

And you know, I don't even really miss him. He had some masculinity issues. He told me once that he wouldn't marry a woman that made more money than him. He also said that AJ Lee, the wrestler, was too muscular and that women should be "squishy". If you have never seen a photo of AJ Lee, look her up. If you passed her on the street, no would most typical heterosexual males since her "too muscular" and "not squishy" enough. I think my friend got married in 2019 I believe on the same day as my birthday. I do wish I could tell him that his anniversary and my birthday are the same day so we'll always be connected because he's a dumb enough person to let that fact get under his skin.

But anyways. Videogames....Paper Mario...yeah?

Maybe it's just that I don't own any systems more powerful than the Switch (though I have played them at friend's houses and am very aware of how they look from following gaming media) but personally I still feel like Switch games look nice generally.

Some of course can look pretty rough, but when I fire up Metroid Dread with its clean, polished graphics and meticulous attention to detail, or Monster Hunter Rise with its lifelike creatures, or Mario Odyssey with its vibrant colours and smooth lighting, it's still visually pleasing to my eyes.

I can fully understand folks who play most on stronger platforms noticing it being less pretty, but I'm content for now.
For me, art direction matters more to me than tech, I'm able for instance to still revisit something like Mario Galaxy on Wii or F-Zero GX on Gamecube and find them appealing, and as a retro gamer I still fire up systems as old as the SNES from time to time.

It really does blow me away sometimes just how far games have advanced in even my short lifetime; I was initiated into gaming with Starfox 1993, still one of my all time favourites, and when I compare that to even games considered low end or underpowered today, the difference is mind boggling.

Switch may be on the lower end of the power spectrum, but when I'm hoovering up ghosts in Luigi's Mansion 3 or leaping and bounding through Ori and the Will of the Wisps, darn it if it doesn't still look like something I could only dream of when I was growing up.

I was gonna make an 'EarthenBound' joke, but modeling clay is more plastic based, isn't it...
True. The good professor's clay/pottery idea regarding crafting would fit that joke, though:
I love this stuff and hope Nintendo do something with Zelda in the "Crafted-verse" before too long. The Link's Awakening remake felt like it was approaching this sort of thing anyway. Maybe they could have everything be carved from wood? Or maybe everything is made from clay/pottery? Stained glass?

IDK but I'm sure there's a solid idea in there somewhere.
I'm not sure it's perfectly fitting for Mother, but maybe there could be something made for your joke.

Just saw La La Land for the first time. Such a lovely film.

Also if Nintendo has anything else in the pipeline for March we could find out within just a few weeks and I think that's pretty cool.

I for one would very much enjoy clay EarthBound
I for two would very much enjoy clay EarthBound

I've had similar fallings out with a few friends in the past few years. It sucks and I'm sorry to hear you went through that. I wish I had something comforting to say aside from the simple fact that you're not alone.

For me, art direction matters more to me than tech
This right here explains everything else you said. When games are developed for a particular system and art direction is a priority (as opposed to being downported from PC/XB/PS, or the visual priority being "photorealism" or things like that) you can end up with absolutely gorgeous games on a "weak" system. Odyssey, Dread, Luigi's Mansion 3, and others I'm currently forgetting look fantastic on Switch, regardless of specs.

Speaking of art direction, you know what else would look great on Switch?
Clay Earthbound.

Just got my booster shot!

Sigh of relief honesty. Hopefully I don't deal with any side effects lol

I haven't spoken to my friends in years; I tried to remain in contact, but most my messages would be ignored. Not to mention they would always post pictures of all of them hanging out on Facebook and I would never be invited and when I brought it up I would get the "Oh sorry, it slipped our mind" excuse. Eventually I just deleted my Facebook account and erased their numbers from my phone, I don't have time to waste for people like that.

as for falling out with friends, I’ve definitely tried to keep some pals in orbit who have said or done vary degrees of unchill shit (mostly tame — I do not have the energy or time in my life to deal with the worst examples).

I unapologetically try to challenge why they think that way or said x thing and keep them accountable. or at least define clearly why something they said could either be harmful or make others think they’re supporting x y or z more overtly harmful take.

sometimes you can make a difference! …

but more and more it has stopped being rewarding

the past half-decade has not been great

How long do I have to wait before I get a booster shot? Only got the second shot of the vaccine a couple of weeks ago
IIRC the original CDC guideline was 6 months. I dunno if that has changed since then.

But in general getting too many doses of the same vaccine so close to each other can damage your immune system I believe. Not sure if the booster has enough to cause that or not.
