if its a shadowdropped mini/partner, its probably a lot less of a big deal to move it than it would be for a general thats generally considered more important and higher stakes

One possibility is that it's a repeat of the September 2020 mini, where there's 1-2 third party announcements that could carry the show on its own, to the point there's no "need" for Nintendo's stuff.

Two Monster Hunter releases were definitely the stars of that showcase. Anything of note from Capcom, Sega, Square Enix and/or Koei Tecmo could do it again.
Monster Hunter remains the only third party series/game to have gotten a dedicated Direct in the entire Switch era. I find that to be fascinating because they used to roll out the "Direct" branding for almost anything and everyone in the 3DS/Wii U days.

Remember when we randomly got an Animal Crossing Direct announcement at like 3 in the afternoon (US) in 2020? That was fun

Yup. If I mathed correctly when it’s 10am EST it’s already the next day in Japan (midnight)
Yeah, tho it could be a bit later imo. I feel shadowdropping is strange enough territory to warrant not adhering to expected time tables.
All past partner showcases
I'm talking about the possibility of a shadowdropped Mini. Which I feel happens so infrequently they could probably choose a different time to drop it and be fine.

they could still just do a mini, the 2018 mini was just updates on already released stuff, right? even if fe4 is being saved for the switch 2 blowout they could still do a mini with their 3rd party output + peach ttyd lm2 and side order
I thought that was what we all understood to be happening. Nate suspects the format would be Partner Showcase, because he thinks March will be Switch 2 reveal.

(if you were being sarcastic, I missed that sorry)
Oh yeah I get all that, I'm just poking around wondering why, if they had some good first-party stuff to show, they didn't go ahead and plop it into the Direct and make it more of a normal Direct. Showing off this much first-party stuff on twitter all month only to then drop a Partner (or a general mini) just seems odd to me. Even when the Ace Combat 7 trailer hit people were wondering why it wasn't saved for a Direct. It just seems to me like they had enough for one but they deliberately shaved it down because they wanted a smaller February presentation. Like, it seems they coulda done a full Direct this month and then still gone ahead with the March Switch 2 presentation. Unless there's some key thing that they believe a General Direct needs, and that key thing is a one-more-thing, which at this point would probably be Prime 4, which they don't wanna show yet.

tl;dr: 🤷🤣

Here's what y'all should be on the lookout for:

If PSS gets its own trailer, it will be at 8AM EST, the time they almost always drops game trailers, if nothing comes at that time, then the probability of a General Mini increases

The Direct or Direct announcement will be at 9AM EST, if there is nothing at that time, or for whatever reason, the PSS trailer is dropped then, the Partner is still likely Thursday, as some of those have been shadow drops

LMK if there's any important tells I'm missing

guys post your favorite Nintendo creepypasta maybe the rush of adrenaline will make things go faster

When you put it that way I’m starting to think the Switch 2 presentation is going to be grand, all-hands type of event.

Might explain why they didn’t want to commit too much resources/energy toward a General which requires presence of hosts, planning, editing etc, so they probably opted for a more laid back format to focus on the upcoming big-tent Switch 2 event.

Theorizing of course

Oooooooh good one, I didn't even think about that!!!!

I'm amazed that things are just chaotic enough that we had multiple insiders say a week ago that they believe it's a Partner, yet there's still enough reason to believe maybe not, leaving room to speculate and theorize.

This is good shit, yall. This is some true Direcc Specc Thread shit tonight.

I really hope that it won’t be shadowdropped today.
I’m not at home until later tonight and I don’t want spoilers 🥲 (and I need to use my phone so it would be so difficult to avoid them)

I’m thinking if it is this week, we are getting the peach game extended trailer tomorrow and then just an upload on Thursday. Part of me hopes it’s like that 34 minutes after midnight or whatever that random one was

Very true. And again, right now, we're certainly in an odd time, in an era where a lot of odd things happened already.

I'm just keeping as many possibilities in check, while there's still plenty of wild cards in the deck.

What do people want to see from a potential 2.15.24 Partner Showcase?
Honestly I think there's a chance (even if it's a small chance) that Mario and Sonic at the Summer Olympics for this year could be announced here and I think that could be pretty exciting, I genuinely like those games haha!

I just had a random thought, but if Switch 2 3rd party support steps it up as much as we expect and hope, people will be a lot more hype for these going forward.

Why didn’t they just make a Mini direct. Take the third party direct and add a few first party stuff in it.

How I wish! Also, though it'd be hype in its own way to get a lot of Switch 2 news next month, I'm hungry to see more actual first-party software. The fact it might not happen until June or September is rough X(

A game every two months is pretty empty. I just...can't believe that would be the strategy, to basically punt on half of the year. Yes, the Switch 2 launch will be big, but it's also going to be limited. You aren't going to sell 20 million copies of 3D Mario this fall because there won't be 30 million new consoles out there.

That just seems like a potentially big loss of revenue even if you account for new systems, since the Switch is actually still selling. You have all of these users out there and you're not going to give them anything to buy for over half the year? Seems unwise.
I also expect the majority of Nintendo releases for Switch 2 to be playable for Switch 1 for a while, so I think this hypothetical March showcase will coincidentally feature a lot of Switch 1 games.

You know, I just realized that that fake Fire Emblem translator getting called out on the carpet for being bogus means an avatar for FE4 is back on the menu.

I have decided to keep my expectations reasonable.

Ace Attorney 7
Silksong
Pizza Tower
Slay the Princess
Pentiment
Hi Fi Rush
Endless Ocean
Monolith Soft developed Xenogears remake.
You guys need to stop bringing up Endless Ocean. It’s making me realize just how much I’d like a modem EO game even though it’s definitely not happening.

I'm not sure if anyone has any screenshots of this related to the Peach Showtime article leaking or mentioned this, but I'm sure (well maybe, I guess I'm not 100 percent), if that was in a Normal Mini for tomorrow, it probably was also mentioned in the article itself as something like "As shown in the Nintendo Direct Mini" or something like that... maybe I'm wrong though HAHA, I just feel like our answer could be in the written part of the article

Why would Nintendo care about an Xbox podcast? They have done Directs on the same days as State of Plays before iirc.
Weren't the state of plays always announced after Nintendo Directs? From what I remember anyways. I could be wrong but I doubt they'd announce it after a state of play

I think the most likely answer with the Peach thing is it is just a normal trailer drop tomorrow and we get a shadowdropped show the next day. Though there is a potential with it being mishandled in the first place that it was meant to go up alongside a shadowdropped show on Thursday whether that’s a Mini or the unprecedented double feature I proposed.

I won’t rule anything out, but I’m like 98% sure it’s a Partner at this point since I most believe in the first scenario.

This is where I am, too.

Should it ever happen, it’d make more sense at an Indie Showcase but Pizza Tower finally being revealed for a Nintendo Switch port is my pipe dream moment for this week.
