Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.
Smash Ultimate DX - I think a new game is a ways off still and having something akin to MK8D that could still get constant updates would be really cool, I also just love the game and it just needs a few improvements like better online and it'd be pretty perfect to me.

Mario Kart 9 (X) - If I were Nintendo I'd make this the most ambitious thing ever with an absurd scope, bring in characters from all types of nintendo franchises, give me a squid powerup that lets me swim through and leave ink on the ground to slow people down, give me kirby's star or an arwing and let me fly around the course super fast, tracks from nintendo games, more modes, seasonal updates, a large campaign with almost cinematic sequences during races. I want them to go all out. This could be the best selling game they ever make so it'd be great if they treated it with that prestige.

FF7 Remake/Rebirth - Would be insanely hype just knowing the Switch 2 could run these games competently which I believe it probably can. (FF16 would be cool too)

Elden Ring - Would be such a great tie in with the new DLC, watched a RogersBase video and he mentioned the idea of Link's Tunic like in Skyrim as well as a Ganon Boss fight and that sold me. A Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive GANON FIGHT? Wouldn't that be a dream.

Honourable Mentions because I'm super greedy and can't follow instructions: Metaphor ReFantazio and P3 Reload for sure. I see it happening regardless but it's nice to vocalise.

What about a direct on the 21st of February? Any reason as to why it couldn’t be later in the month?

I've contacted Nintendo and told them they're legally obliged to have the Direct three days after for my 40th birthday.

Reason for that is that my purchases over 35 years of playing their games likely put one or two of their kids through college.

E:

Pyoro just teased NSO GBA news coming up in the near future.

If I could will a game into existence for Switch 2, Smash Ultimate Deluxe where they just go wild building on top of Ultimate would be a dream game. Get to 100 fighters and keep going.

I would be interested in a Golden Sun - TLDR Edition, because there's just too much goddarned talking in the game.

But i don't have the NSO Expansion Pack, so what does my opinion even do.

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.
3D Super Mario
I can't wait to see what EPD Tokyo do with new, more powerful hardware after consistently delivering excellent games. I know people are expecting open world this time, and it makes sense for Nintendo to continue down the road of making 3D Mario less 'interrupted'; not kicking you out of levels after completing objectives and the world changing in response to what you do were pioneered on Switch. But I'd also love to see what fast loading could accomplish - imagine jumping through a painting and immediately emerging in a different level or a different part of the world.

Astral Chain 2
Again, faster loading and more powerful hardware could make for something very exciting here. The original is one of the best looking games on Switch; now imagine that next-gen at 60fps, with the ability to instantly load in and out of the Astral Plane to complete missions and fight enemies.

new IP from Monolith Soft
I'm not too concerned on the specifics of this, but Monolith Soft have gone from strength to strength and now have significant numbers of staff (250ish?) who, across their combined efforts, have worked on open world Zelda and the Xenoblade series. That's serious development chops for making enormous, immersive worlds and I'd love to see a new world from them that's unrelated to their previous work. More broadly, it would also be exciting to have a Nintendo subsidiary expanding, leading development on two different series, and contributing to Zelda.

I'm going to cheat for my last one...

Missing IP
Between new games, remakes and ports, Switch has been extremely broad for Nintendo IP. But, this would be the first Nintendo generation without a new 2D Zelda, Star Fox or Donkey Kong game, and so I really don't want them to miss out next time around. I'd also love to see Wave Race come back; new hardware would represent a quantum leap for that series in particular.

Please be Golden Sun. There are only 2 games left for gba (from the announced ones), so I have 50% chance of being right 😅

With the Twitter Direct happening, whatever content there is for a Jan/Feb Direct, might as well be a Mini
2 of the 3 things announces on Twitter were things that would be weeks old by the time of the February direct. This isn't even remotely close to a Twitter Direct. Wake me up if next week on Twitter they announce Fire Emblem 4 remake, Prime 2-3 remaster, Prime 4 release date, or any other new retail game for Switch.

Nintendo is running N64 and GBA out before the next direct. You’d think they would give an update to both of them soon. GBA might have one game left after today or maybe they give us the last 2 games on their roadmap.

6 mins for the first tweet of the day! Hoping for Peach, but seems a tad unlikely now after yesterday’s tweet and Mario vs DK trailer drop. If nothing else, we have that unusual maintenance and perhaps NSO today.

Since there's so much Rare/Microsoft talk going on, I want Banjo Grunty's Revenge and Banjo Pilot both released at same time.
We're finally gonna get the DK game everyone has been asking for

I'd definitely prefer to see them go whole hog, launch the last two confirmed games, and then give at least some confirmed titles for the next 12 months at a Direct next month.

Oh this is a fun one!

1. New 3D Mario game
It's a long time since Odyssey now so launching the console with a proper follow up game would very exciting and right up there with the best possible game you could launch a console with (if it captures the imagination like most 3D Mario's have)

2. New Mario Kart game
It's been almost 10 years since the Mario Kart 8 first launched and while the dlc and stuff has kept me coming back to it, a fresh and brand new experience would be greatly appreciated. It's also another game that is great for early momentum in the console's lifespan and would be perfect for convincing my friends to hop into Nintendo's new generation alongside me

3. F-Zero
99 was a nice taste of the franchise but getting a proper brand new F-Zero in the first year of Switch 2 would be fantastic. I know there's overlap with Mario Kart there but this is just personal bias for a smaller more niche series that would tell me Nintendo is doing their best to cater to all sorts of their fans

4. Custom Robo
The dream pie in the sky pick that is probably never gonna happen but this is probably my favourite franchise that has went the longest with Nintendo doing absolutely nothing with. I just want my silly little robo fighting rpg back Nintendo, is that too much to ask?

Go to bed, go back to bed, or take a power nap, whatever you need to do. Potentially exciting stuff seems to be later today.

Or keep the fun discussion rolling, that’s actually cooler :)

I’ve never played a Custom Robo game, if Nintendo made a new one I’d be interested in checking it out :)

Mr. Pants was such an enigmatic character to me back in 1999 - 2001. I remember browsing the Rare website back then and he'd be referenced here and there, plus there were easter eggs of him in Jet Force Gemini and (I believe) Banjo-Tooie. I had no idea what his deal was but I found him super amusing. I even remember someone making a fangame that I played around early 2001.

Still hard for me to believe that he got an official game.

In a world where Nintendo had kept Rare he wouldn't have.

They announced a new challenge that gives you the Rainmaker in Turf War. Seems like a neat idea!

Also they just advertised Pokemon’s DLC update

Thanks! I'm actually pretty excited to play the Pokémon epilogue, but it's I'm aware that's not a majority perspective

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.

- Donkey Kong: DK's due for a big comeback, and I think there's actually a decent chance this is the big launch title this time, esp. if the EPD rumors are true

- 3D Mario: I don't think I'm alone in feeling absolutely starved for a big beefy Mario collect-em-up. Bowser's Fury was a nice teaser, but it only stoked my appetite for what that team will do on new hardware

- gonna cheat a bit and say realistic vehicle-based tech demo: There's some games that seem like they really only stand a chance at a console launch (or launch window) where they can act as something of a graphical showcase; Wave Race, Excite, Pilotwings, things of that ilk (F-Zero could arguably be included here tbh). I'd be down for getting even just one "one of those" on Switch 2

- 2D Zelda: I'm dying for some signs of life on this one. With EPD all-in on the open-air format (which I also love) and ports of WW/TP supposedly waiting in the wings, I feel like it makes all the sense in the world for Grezzo to go the Mercury Steam path of following up their remake of a GB game with an original entry in the same series

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.

Work has been a drag today so I’ve dreamed big here!

Following the success of the Apollo Justice Trilogy, Capcom finally announce Ace Attorney 7 as one of the Switch 2’s first big 3rd party exclusives (timed, with ports come to other platforms later on). This is the most ambitious AA game yet, with 5 traditional cases as well as a central mystery that takes place throughout the entire game, with smaller side investigations and cases also available. “Coming 2025” but as the trailer looks to be ending — OBJECTION! The Miles Edgeworth Investigations Collection will be coming to Switch, Xbox, PS and PC in Winter 2024, with an exclusive bonus investigation for Switch 2 which showcases some of the new features that will appear in AA7.

Animal Crossing: Uncharted Waters is set for early 2025. You create your own island (with almost every feature from New Horizons returning) but also have access to a ship that you can upgrade and travel to different islands. There’s a main Island similar to the The City in City Folk. A lot more emphasis on social systems with mini games between villagers, branching dialogue. You can also go on Voyages with up to 3 friends or villagers. These are similar to mystery islands, but there is more of an emphasis on finding materials and rare items (treasures) that can be found.

A new Mario Kart is finally announced for November 2024 — just in time for Christmas. 15 cups at launch with over 100 characters and 60 courses from throughout Mario and Nintendo history. A single player mode that’s focused on creating the ultimate kart. Compete in races, events and tournaments to unlock parts for the kart. Open world hub area. A bit like a smaller scale Forza Horizon.

Splatoon: Cleaning Force is a Splatoon spin-off developed in partnership with FuturLab, the team behind Powerwash Simulator. You’re a part of the team that’s tasked with cleaning up the aftermath of Splatoon battles. Similar gameplay to Powerwash Sim with some Splatoon weapons, powers and quirks. Releases in 2025 but the trailer reveals that a Mushroom Kingdom DLC pack for PowerWash Simulator is coming to ALL platforms. Winter 2024.

Others of note:

2024 - Super Mario Marvel (Launch), Metroid Prime 4 (cross gen), a new Pokémon Legends title, Persona 3 Reload port.

2025 - New 1st party IP, Kirby 3D sequel, new Monolith game, Ocarina of Time remake, WW/TP HD double pack, Metaphor port, Call of Duty: Zombies HD collection

Our first two weeks of this thread have flown by and while we of course can’t rule anything out as Nintendo has a regular degree of unpredictability in their actions, after this week of speculation it seems we are getting a clearer consensus on when to expect the next Nintendo Direct! Before this week’s discussion question, the only greater thread business I want to touch on is we did have a fun new poll this past week. It will close somewhere on Friday night or on Saturday and be replaced with a new poll given it was tied to this week specifically. While inspiration may strike, I’ll just say if you have suggestions for fun polls that can garner 300+ votes by all means share them in thread. I do read every post here even when it gets wild :) Onto this week’s question then!

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.

For my own answer, a new 3D Mario and Metroid Prime 4 are definitely my top two. It’s been far too long since Odyssey and certainly too long since Prime 3 so I really want these two games to be there ideally at launch. I’d also like to a see a Definitive Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles X on Switch 2 in year 1 that adds a significant amount of new story and perhaps a new area to explore somehow. With the trilogy done, I really want to get back to Mira and open world Xenoblade and I think a Definitive Edition done right would really be a showpiece for the system. For my fourth and final pick, I’m going to pick a new Advance Wars game. It won’t be a graphical showcase I imagine, but it’s something that done right I’d be playing for years to come.
- Brand new 3D Mario. Honestly as much as I’d just love an Odyssey 2 and I don’t think the capture mechanic was fully exhausted, I think at this point I’d rather them just go all out and come up with something brand new.

- Brand new F-Zero. I have this pipedream the Switch 2’s screen is >60hz and I simply cannot think of a better franchise/game to capitalize on that than F-Zero.

- Yakuza 0 Kiwami. Dragon Engine remake of Yakuza 0. I needn’t say more lol

- New Animal Crossing. I am constantly thinking about how much I miss Animal Crossing New Horizons, knowing full well I have completely tapped that game for all I could get out of it (which lasted me like 1600 hours). I’d love nothing more than a brand new game as an excuse to hang out with my weird animal friends for 1500 or so more hours

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.

3D Mario- This goes without saying. Mario is the goat. When a new Mario platformer is released, the world pays attention.

Star Fox- I have been begging for a good Star Fox game for a long time. Nintendo has a very underused IP with a lot of potential. We could have a great space fighting game with a fun campaign and an addicting online mode.

Diddy Kong Racing HD- Ok, so this one is definitely a long shot for many reasons. Nintendo could go the route of doing a full blown HD remake with the blessing of Rare, or they could make a brand new game with different characters. I would love to be able to play a full blown campaign on a kart racer again.

2D Zelda- We are going on almost a decade without a brand new 2D Zelda game. Tri-Force Heroes was alright, but the last great 2D Zelda game was A Link Between Worlds. It is time to bring back Link to a top down adventure with dungeons full of puzzles and turns.

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.
First and foremost I want Nintendo to embrace the next gen patch and cross generation games with one SKU. They appear to have the infrastructure to allow this, I want to see it done. For all Xbox's flaws, their first party cross gen was pretty seamless, you don't worry about which copy you bought, it worked on both generations and automatically updated to the latest build for that specific machine. For games to get this, I expect Smash Ultimate (partly because they want to continue to sell it but repackaging it is a no-go, there shan't be a "Smash Ultimate Ultimate".), Mario Kart 8 (same reasons), Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Splatoon 3 and Mario Wonder at minimum.

For new games, honestly I'm not too pushed. A new Mario within the first year would be nice, I haven't been a huge fan of Wonder nor Odyssey, but Bowser's Fury was incredible. I'm much more interested in the new possibilities and IPs it'll bring, as someone who enjoyed 1-2 Switch and ARMS a lot. Fluidity follow-up with RT and 3D environments anyone? Form lenses with water droplets and illuminate the goal!

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.
the usual suspects:

1. new 3D mario - not only do i suspect this with a 99% chance of happening, i also really want it to happen! considering how amazing SMO was and the interesting things they did to SM3DW, i can’t even imagine what the team will do this time. which is all the more exciting.

2. mario kart X - it is time to move on from MK8. actually, it was time to move on from MK8 like… 3 years ago. give us a new mario kart nintendo!!

my personal desires:

3. DQIII HD-2D - i have been enamored with this game since the release of its beautiful reveal trailer… forever ago! this should probably come out within the next 12 months anyway (i’d hope), but still putting it in here as i’m not sure if they’ll go Switch 1 and 2 release or just Switch 1 release. could be worth it to release on NS2 as i’m sure the game is quite large.

4. FFVII and/or PHYSICAL KH complete trilogy - not much to say here, other than that maybe i’m delusional 😔

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.
Well...

Metroid Prime 4
Dreaming about this since the first reveal. It's getting on a point where is almost annoying even saying this name. Yes I'm salty about it.

New 3D Mario
Almost guaranted since we need a game to sell the new console. I'm thinking it will get a lot of things inspired by the movie somehow.

A New Mario Party
We need a great multiplayer for the New console too, and I think Mario Party is a great start. Mario Kart 10 should be 2025

A Zelda Remake...
...that IS not WW or TP. Weeeeeell, I hope it's time for another Ocarina of Time remake

That will be all

Another next-gen project I want: a spiritual successor to Wario Land 3 in either 2D or 3D. I don't mind, as long as it's a Wariotroidvania game.

Week 3 - What four games would you like to see most in Year 1 for Switch 2 and why? You can pick either realistic or dream guesses.

1) WaveRace - Show off those new graphics! And gameplay-wise it would be very refreshing among all those AAA games that seem more and more samey to me.

2) Metroid Prime 4 - As much as I love my Switch, I don't want to see this game die on an old console the hardcore crowd will not care about anymore as soon as the new shiny box has come out to play.

3) Excite Truck - Make it crazy. Make it go over the top. Make it fast. Give rewards for racing through a dense forest without crashing into one of those trees flying by at an insane speed. And then go flying for at least half a mile.

4) Ocarina of Time Remake - Boy, it's time for this one to receive a true makeover. It has to go beyond being a graphical update. OoT is great, but the remake has to be a re-imagining to some extent to make it work in today's world.

If that came to fruition, I would be one happy gamer! Throw in Rogue Squadron IV as well for good measure. ;)
