I mean I do agree with the fact that the other Xenoblades were weirder but I also like them more partly because of that (well 2 and 3, haven't played X yet so can't comment on that)

1 feels fairly safe and basic in a lot of ways imo which makes it very widely appealing but also means that it (imo) lacks the strengths of its successors. Still a great game but for me the weakest of the mainline trilogy at least
 
Might as well get a Xenoblade series ranking train going:

3 > 1 > X > Future Redeemed > Torna > Future Connected > 2
 
I’m thinking how much I love the Xenoblade series. Monolith hits the music, world design and characters. They hit these strong for me. An amazing series. I know I’ll get a great group of characters. I know I’ll get amazing areas to explore and they’ll be accompanied by top tier music.

Honestly this might be the least hyped I've been for a direct for a while since I got Pikmin 4 and TotK out of this thing finally. Not that it can't have surprises that please me, but I'm just ready to move on to next gen at this point.

If they want to assault me with F-Zero 99 and Mario vs DK, then go ahead Nintendo. Do your best. I cannot feel anything anyways.
 
Is it possible the rumored Mario v DK game could be completely unique in its gameplay? Rather than continuing the handheld franchise, it could be a soft reboot of DK's character in the context of Mario. Maybe its a vertical platformer, or a fighting game, or an RPG spinoff rather than a Lemmings-esque sequel.

September 14 Nintendo Direct:

-Opener is the new Peach game. Nice, average-sized trailer that showcases some nice gameplay. Dated for February 2024.
-Headline: F-Zero is back with F-Zero 99. Brief look and description of gameplay. Look forward also to Maximum Velocity and GP Legend on NSO. And...! After a fade to black, F-Zero GX Remastered is shown in all its glory. F-Zero 99 is a shadowdrop, as are the NSO games, while GX comes digitally and physically November 2023.
-Headline: Mario vs. Donkey Kong. A very different kind of title from previous ones - not sure how, but I expect something bigger and more varied in gameplay. Releasing sometime early 2024.
-Stuff in between: Mario RPG, Mario Wonder, lots of third-party content I won't bother getting into, updated NSO roadmap that is headlined by DK64 (DK fans need SOMETHING substantial, and this will do!).
-Closer is Metroid Prime 4. An incredible minute-long teaser that excites all of us greatly. Game releases May 2024; at the end of trailer, Prime 2 + 3 HD are shadowdropped as a double pack and individually on eshop, with a physical release coming December 2023.

Several rumored or confirmed things I think will be no-shows: Zelda WW / TP, Luigi's Mansion 1 / 2, any Fire Emblem (wouldn't be too surprised to see this make it, though), Paper Mario TTYD (this is my favorite game ever and I badly want it to exist, but it's too close to Mario RPG), Kid Icarus, Smash Bros...

It could you never know. All we know is a Mario vs DK game exists. That’s kind of the cool aspect of these rumors. We still have to see them.

could be. It's been 8 years since the last one after all
 
I think Xenoblade 1 and 3 to be the best JRPGs of their time.
However, I think 2 could have been done a little better. It had good characters and a good story, but the UI was terrible and despite significant updates, there are still a lot of issues . If this game ever gets a remake or remaster, I hope they fix these issues.
 
I've made peace with F-Zero 99 over GX remaster, primarily because Death Race in F-Zero X is a lot of fun. And at least it would be a relatively new thing and not a slap to F-Zero fans' faces if they've even played X and understand what an F-Zero 99 could bring.

Edit: we're talking about Xenoblade now? Hell yeah.

You got Tsukuyo Amane as your new avatar from now until a month after the Direct airs! I saw you had a Link avatar, so while a sword wielder would have also made sense, a second challenger also has Link as their avatar and at that point I knew I had to pick the Amane Twins. Like Link in Phantom Hourglass, Tsukuyo also plays a flute, though a different kind, so there's another connection there. Tsukuyo is a White Feather in the Wings of the Magius so she initially opposes the main characters. She is quite fun despite the more sad expression in her art here and I used her in my party until the game ended.

I think that just about covers it for me.
Also to be fair even the lowest-ranked entries on these lists are still more highly ranked to me than most other games. So just because it's low on the list doesn't mean I think it's bad, just that I love the other games that much more.

I agree. There are some areas in 2 that are among my favorites in the series and then there are places in 2 I try to speed through as quickly as possible. 1, 3, and X seem more consistent to me.
 
Xenoblade Warriors opening the direct would be the best case scenario and it's about time imo by early/mid 2024 for it to happen.

Then we still get Fire Emblem 4 remake in the middle(hell we got a Super Mario RPG in the middle on a Direct that started with Pokémon DLC).
 
I said I would not check here all weekend and only check Pyoro tweets, but boy oh boy did Pyoro have an interesting start to the weekend. Love them calling out fake leakers. I wonder if they plan to share with us until the Direct on the 14th.

Xenoblade 2 is such a frustrating game. The overall story is probably my favorite of the trilogy, having fantastic villains really propels it to the top, but then we have the game swimming in otaku pandering shit to drag it the hell down. Plus there's the gacha and awful field skills, no bueno.

Meanwhile, XB3 excels with its fantastic cast and the best ending in the series by far, they fixed (most) of what plagued 2, but largely terrible villains hurts the story a good deal, and the premise is at odds with an interesting world like Monolith is known for. And the combat needed reworking, as the class system and chain attack wear thin by the end

X has the best world of the lot, mechs, and some really great side-quests, only to ridiculously drop the ball on the main story to the point where it feels like an afterthought. If the story didn't suck so much it'd probably be my favorite

XB1 is the most consistent entry. I don't think it reaches the highs of any of the other games, but it doesn't have any real lows either.

I don't have a ranking, honestly, since they all have their own strengths (and Torna and FR kinda muddy the waters a little). XB3 might be my favorite, but man, it needed better villains, and for the story to be a bit tighter towards the (fantastic) end.
 
Also im honestly the only one that can see F-Zero 99 as the complete death of the franchise?

I mean Pac Man 99 was basically a flop, how on earth people will last longer on a unkown ips? 6 months

"Ah well F-Zero 99 is not played people dont want F-Zero" and we gp the Chibi Robot route

I think we should see it and play it before reading too much into the core concept. The range of possibilities for it how could turn out is really wide. Like it could be neat, but people aren’t into it, or it could turn out to be really addictive fun.

F-Zero has room to focus on such a battle royale angle, that's literally what Death Race is. It's not impossible to consider a 99 game to take that idea and run with it, like slowly but surely removing boost pads or what have you.

If this was something like I dont know F-Zero 2 and basically a F-Zero Snes Sequel with modes and 99 race mode I would agree

But since it will be an Only battle royal game that live or die by the players......no I dont see it working even if death race is cool

KingK did a great video on Xenoblade 2, basically explaining the issues I had with it better than I ever could...but also its brilliance.



I'm glad I gave it another chance some time ago.

The third game is probably my favorite by the way.

X has an incredible open world that is gorgeous both in topography and aesthetic allure, an intriguing story, many, many intricate and intersecting mechanics and systems that are all a joy to interact with, terrific combat, and once you get it, it has the unbeatable euphoria of flying around in mechs.

I never vibed with 1. I put 50 hours of it, and it sort of went through one ear and out the other.

I fell off of 2 pretty hard. It has fantastic combat and an imaginative setting but the sexualization of some of the women in the game was so off-putting that I dropped it after a few hours.
