StarTopic Nintendo First Party Software Development |ST| Nintendo Party Superstars

No. Nintendo at this point wouldn't announce games with a project or codename titles. Even if the game is in early development, they would already have the final title decided or just use a tentative name (like Mario Kart for Nintendo Switch for example)
the least they do is Metroid Prime 4(tentative title) is in development for Nintendo Switch, they no longer anounce games that is 3/4 years aways or longer for release, they anounce games that 1 year/6 months for it release

At this point they just should really kept it as NSO Expansion Pack bonus if they really wanted to release this.
that would also be the exact opposite audience that's supposed to buy this game
I realized this earlier but this is starting to look like the first Switch year without a Mario release unless they announce something soon. Wild.
but also, look at how many years you could have said this of at this exact time of year. this is why I roll my eyes every year when the "they have nothing!!" discussion starts over again because they always have "nothing" ...and then they randomly announce a dozen things releasing five minutes later out of the blue.

I'm more talking about Mario specifically being a complete no-show this year. Every other Switch year there at least one Mario-themed release per half-year, except for 2020 where Paper Mario was in mid-July.

Generally speaking they still have ~2 weeks to announce what H2 is going to look like before we enter "unusual territory". But that's probably a discussion for the Direct speculation thread.

I'm still expecting 2 of the 3 options below in 2023:

2D Mario
PMTTYD Remake
Mario Sluggers Switch
Mario Sluggers was by Bamco, so I don't think that's a likely option. same reason why we haven't seen Mario Basketball since SE doesn't have any desire to return to that

Hoping for TTYD & Sluggers.

Wild that we are almost half way through the year and there are no Mario games confirmed yet. Has that ever happened before? I feel like there was always something at least confirmed. Crazy that this is happening the same year they released a $1.3 billion Mario movie.

2017 isn't long enough ago to rule it as never happening personally (Bamco was the lead on Mario Sports Superstars, which included baseball); but i'm still not sure it'd be this year, or even next year. Don't see why they couldn't return to it eventually though.

Baseball won't happen agian. That sports-franchise is dead. That doesn't fly in Europe and I don't think we live in an era where they would even make something that caters to only 2 out of 3 big regions. You might be tempted to argue similarly for Strikers being the same case but Football is a much more global sport than Baseball.

edit: but imo sports megamix 2 would be killer. go wild with a mashup thing. like the olympics game but without any of that blue nonsense.

I'm speculating / imagining if the new 2D Mario would just be an amalgamation and evolution of Super Mario Run / Super Mario Maker 2 / NSMBU. The updated visuals and character roster of RUN and online multiplayer and maybe some level creation from Maker 2?

I did a thread to talk about that in detail

I don't think they are doing anything with level creation, let Maker be it's own separate thing, altough they will probably add level conditions that were introduced in Maker 2, same with online multiplayer.

The sports titles regularly break a couple million. Baseball will happen again. There's enough baseball interest between NA, GER, UK, SK, JP to make it worth it & the recent Samurai Japan WBC win will help. These sports title don't require big budgets.

Basketball is another one I expect to return as the sport is more global now than it's ever been, last 5 MVPs have been from outside the US.

If we ever stayed in the spirit of the New Super Mario, what would be the title of the game in your opinion?

New Super Mario Bros 3, to follow in the footsteps of portable consoles? New Super Mario Bros switch, to follow in the tradition of home consoles? New Super Mario Bros 5, to unify both?

I really hope for a complete break with the style and brand New Super Mario Bros, but I can’t be sure that’s what they will do especially when we see the rather high sales figures of NSMBUD on switch.

Advance Wars ?

Brain Age then ? :p
did that end-up fully skipping NA in the end? my straw man is now wearing two hats. and holds a sign that says "but neither of them are Mario!" (I genuinely do feel these super niche releases are a different beast than even a Mario Sports game)

ultimately, I also just don't want them to make any of these. at least not like they used to. spice up those Mario Sports franchises again.

Buddy Mission Bond is really the only other exception. I'm sure NoA would have liked to release Brain Training in North America, but the lawsuits against "train your brain" apps probably scared them off.

Buddy Mission Bond on the other hand, it feels like they never had any intention of releasing it outside of Asia, at least when it released.

Jet Dragon is coming in fresh. Will be interesting to compare credits to see if there’s staff unaccounted for that could be on a different project.

Looks like what they were hiring for based on the images, but the recruitment pages are still up. Maybe it's a live service game.

Edit: It's a racing game?

I wanted to say that, but the enemy planner / boss designer position they were hiring for don’t seem to align with this, being a racing a game and all. Visually it doesn’t really look like something that would be their primarily project either, to be honest, lol.

Indeed 😀

There is a saying about 3 always following 2, so I'll give a final example and from a million-seller.

Marvel Alliance 3 sold over 1m worlwide with merely 40.000 units from Japan.

Excuse my ignorance as I seldom keep up with this sort of stuff but do we know when the next big first party game is supposed to drop or what game it'll be?

Pikmin 4 is coming out in July! Looks really cute too.

Do we know how long it takes in terms of development to port GameCube or 3DS games in HD?

No matter when the next switch comes out, it won’t be able to rely on recycling the Wii u with two or three exceptions. So I imagine that some of the remasters we talk about a lot these last months will not only be used to wait until the new console but also to feed its release schedule once it is there.

The games catalog of the Wii u has helped a lot the success of the switch, I don’t know if games like luigi’s Mansion 1 and 2, samus returns, kid icarus uprising, f zero gx or a Star Fox gamecube would be able to fill the holes as effectively for the next generation.

this is impossible to generalize as it entirely depends on what you do to the game.

they made wind waker hd in a little over half a year. metroid prime remake took like 2-3. miitopia was 1-2 years. something like Mario Sunshine/Galaxy we don't know how long it took them, just that the process was very very very different from all the aforementioned ones.

As stated above the answer is variable-more or less-depending on who is doing the port, the degree, resource allocation, etc.

All those games need to do is fill holes in between bigger releases. If they can’t do that then there is little reason to continue remastering/remaking titles from either era & relegate those titles to NSO in the future.

Even the simplest port needs at least a year. I'd say 1-3 years depending on the effort.

Interesting. Jet Dragon and the job hirings are both on Grezzo's site separately.

Also the official site confirms that Koichi Ishii is the game's Producer and Director, which somewhat explains his Special Thanks credit in Miitopia. We'll have to wait until the 16th for the full credits, if it even has any.

Edit: From the interview with Ishii (Google Translate):

Come to think of it, this is Grezzo's first smartphone game.

I've always been interested in smartphone games, and wanted to make a simple game. Smartphones have become one of the tools for the diversity of play, so I
would like to propose ways to play at hand that are rooted in daily life. Another aim was to accumulate Unity development know-how.

They'll do it when they need to. Same for all the other publishers. And its not weird either. In the beginning of the gen they want to show whats coming up even if there is not much ready to throw out there, while later there is little need to. Also, for some projects (like prime) an announcement helps with recruitement. This was one of the many problems with redfall. I'm very sceptical of platform holders/devs/publishers that say they will never do this

I've been intrigued by mobile games and wanted to create something simple. Phones have become a tool that adds to the diversity of play, so I wanted to make a proposal that would be on-hand to be played on the daily. At the same time, I wanted an opportunity to increase experience developing with Unity.

  • Will there be updates after the initial release?
There will be updates. By playing the updates over time, you will be able to progress through to the end of the JetDragon story and the game. Additionally, updates will be made in order to further improve the game.
Unless the wording is off, it seems like the game as it launches won't have the ending, so maybe the listings are for Jet Dragon. I think some Apple Arcade games have done this before (Fantasia, Shantae)

Good Feel seems to have more freedom with Yoshi than Grezzo has with 2D Zelda, so I imagine it's easier to be able to experiment with Yoshi.

Of course not from a Nintendo announcement.

I've been wondering, the developer behind Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: ILCA has been working on several other games lately, as we've seen with One Piece Odyssey and most recently, the newly announced Sand Land game, both of which are developed by ILCA. I wonder if these two games lower the chance of a ILCA developed Pokemon game in 2024/2025 for the Switch?

Might point towards another "Legends"-game (which wasn't done by ILCA but by the B-Team? of GameFreak). I could also see ILCA not feeling like wanting to work on Pokemon again given the... feedback to their game online.

omg I love Bandai Namco now

I still don’t understand why Game Freak released two new Pokémon games in 2022 instead of placing its new spin off in November 2022 and S/V in November 2023. This would have allowed both games to have more development time and it would have allowed TPC to have a big game for the end of the year 2 years in a row.

I completely agree. That would've definitely been the the better scenario. Although i think that TPC originally intended BDSP to be released around DP's 15th anniversary that year (September 28) and for Legends Arceus to be the November holiday game. I'm not sure if that was actually ever intended, but i like to think so.

Given both the TCG and Anime had been spinning its wheels for half a year from SV's release, it is kinda baffling how they didn't want to give the game some more much needed time in the oven. Could've probably gone with spring 2023 and still be fine.

if a contract is on the table, ILCA will make room if they can
