Legit I'm getting a bit tired of this happening with so many things. Just wish I could sit down and enjoy the game uninterrupted like many of ya'll are doing but, here I am, playing a relatively tiny bit every day whilst everyone speeds by me and has more fun :(

If you want to make a thread for those of us in the slow lane, I’ll right be there with you

I just finished the tutorial! Talk to me!

Seriously, though. Hope for the best for you.

I still can't quite believe that the sequel to BOTW is really here.
After being on the horizon for so long, it feels downright surreal that it's actually out now, like at any moment while playing I'm suddenly going to wake up and it's still March. Helps that the damn thing is so amazing it feels like a dream.

A Toast, to long awaited greatness!

I went to go to the grocery store after playing Zelda all day, got like three blocks away and immediately got rear-ended at a stoplight. Moral of the story: Leaving the house is a bad idea, just stay in and play Zelda

(No one's hurt, car damage wasn't major)

Just wondering — is there a better short/breezy/introductory traditional jRPG than Chrono Trigger, even now? The only other ones that come to mind are Dragon Quest I and IV, and both are much more dated than CT.

(Undertale and the NieR games are too deconstructive for this category.)

Probably not. The only one I can think of that comes close is Final Fantasy 4: It's pretty short too (20-25 hours?), and was one of the first JRPGs to have much of a story and characters of any kind, so it's kind of a blueprint of where the genre went later on and is a foundational game. So it's short and breezy and a good introductory JRPG, but it's definitely more dated than Chrono Trigger and has a lot more friction to it, which makes sense given how much older it is.

This happen to me with Octopath 2 (to the point I cannot start that game) and now that a little with TOTK. It sucks specially when it happens out of nowhere.

This game is nuts. When they said they wanted to revisit BOTW's Hyrule again, what they meant is wanting to carve a brand new labyrinth into every single piece of geometry of the old map.

Just realized, sorry @Derachi forgot to @you that I got it in! Time for my first go at this era as I’ve only read the og run of Kinnikuman a few years back(not this or the continuation)

Super Mario RPG is also pretty solid. Both games need to be more available again.

I watched a few streamers and youtubers play some of the intro to Tears of the Kingdom and many got emotional when they first arrive back in Hyrule. It's been six years since BOTW but I think that gap of time is long enough that people have actually grown nostalgic for that version of Hyrule so when they returned, it felt like returning home to many of them.

I can relate. I've been thinking about where I was in my life six years ago when BOTW launched and now where I am today. Kind of crazy how time flies.

Good call, I don't know how I forgot SMRPG since it was literally my first RPG. I guess it is a bit less traditional with the timed hits and Mario trappings and focus, but I can't think of a better "intro RPG" than it.

Zelda is gonna sweep the game awards in december. Which means Nintendo will have at least 2 game announcements.
Yeah the Zelda DLC announcement (or the trailer for the last part or something)

It's not 2017 anymore, idk what changed but I never expect a brand new giant thing again at TGA

It took me ~5 months of finishing Xenoblade 3. Playing since launch, and kinda not anything else during that time.

I won't be done with TotK when my kids unwrap their christmas presents this year.

So i'm here for you.

Twitter... do we need to have a talk?

I feel like it's REALLY important to add the context that Purah is an adult again in TotK, otherwise this comes off extremely problematic for a lot of tweets if one is not aware that she's not a little child anymore. ^^

But i also don't know if that's something you could consider a spoiler ... and i don't wanna piss off people.

Not sure I wanna make one myself, but that sounds like a good idea otherwise! :) It might clutter Treehouse with Zelda threads, but that's for the creator to decide.

Thanks :) I'm definitely a bit further than the tutorial, but the idea I had of playing the game a ton each day just hasn't come up, and out of nowhere as well. It does suck, but what I've done today is have a break and build some Lego to hopefully make returning to the game a bit easier.

I'm sorry to read that.

I'm having some trouble trying to play the game myself, but for a different reason. I have a lot on my plate at work, and whenever I try to take time off and set time aside for myself to enjoy things I feel guilty, and can't bring myself to do anything that isn't work (or, more accurately, worry that I'm not doing enough at work). So, um... i might take a while to beat TOTK

Yeah, I loved FF4 (well, SNES FF2) as a teen, but every time I revisit it it falls further and further in my esteem. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone now except for the historical/completionist reasons now (although the music is still great).

Chrono Trigger was my GOAT for a long time and I still like it a lot after many replays, but seeing what Undertale and Nier Automata were able to accomplish in under 20 hours makes me wonder if there's a more recent release that nails the classic experience with a similar runtime (and more engaging storytelling/mechanics than CT). Maybe Sea of Stars will do so, but I'm guessing that will stretch a bit longer. (DQ11 and OT2 are great turn-based jRPGs, too, but are nowhere near that short.)

FINALLY! I know it's been just 2 days since release, but felt like an eternity!

Arrived yesterday afternoon, but I was only able to play late night after work.. conclusion? I stayed up until 2AM playing, and today I'm a zombie! But that's fine

I agree about SMRPG and FFIV.

CT is just unparalleled in terms of pacing and does so much in its 20-30 run-time while also not overwhelming players with too many decisions.

I've been playing Live A Live and it's so close to falling into this category but the mechanics and presentation is so different than most JRPGs of the era that I don't think it'd be a good starter game. As an intermediate level deep cut? Perfect. Same goes for Parasite Eve on the other side of the Tokita Trilogy 😂

Earthbound might also be an option but it definitely skews closer to 8-bit styling with a fairly high encounter rate and needing to take things very slow at the start to overcome the difficulty curve, and I think the game tends to drag down for people around the 4th or 5th sanctuary.

I... hadn't even considered that, yeah that's not great. I figured most people probably knew that by now (or at least those playing TOTK), but if not, I hope no one takes that the wrong way! Minor spoilers in the quoted post here, something revealed like immediately after the tutorial in TOTK if you want more context.

  • Mirage looks like it could be more of a style of AC I might actually be interested in trying out again, so some mild optimism there
  • Everything else: Don't care
  • Skull and Bones: Yeah, sure, lol

Just realised the last Ubisoft games I cared for were Trackmania Turbo and Trials Rising. Not that I have ever been big on any of their games.

I just realized that the Prince of Persia Remake isn't on that list. Wasn't that game originally supposed to come out like... two and a half years ago?

Hm I should grab a dead or alive game in the current Xbox sale since I never break out my old hardware… but which one
I grabbed Killer is Dead for 2,99€ and am restraining myself from buying more.

On the other hand, Zone of the Enders HD Collection is 9,89€, sooo…

I'm definitely a bit further than the tutorial
Wait there’s a tutorial? I think my Link is the village idiot and is way way off the beaten path.

got the new tablet and then couldn’t figure out how to get across to the next island. Took a flying leap off the side and landed in a pool. And I’ve been tooling around that island for a bit but it’s pretty clear the game expected me to have Fuse and Ultrahand by now I think?

Hopefully the last large game is a new Immortals game. Otherwise, lmao.

It changed developers like a year ago (from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal) and, while they didn't call it a development reboot, the fact that pretty much the only thing they said since the announcement is that they don't really know when it will be released makes it seem like it was one, or at least something close to it.
