I like Arlo a lot of the time. He's just kind of like that friend who's funny, but complains a lot, and gets mad when you don't care about the things he complains about.

Yeah, it's really night and day. Tbh I always found the first RDR overrated because its story (minus the ending) was very GTA-like. RDR2 was light-years ahead

I've watched a fair few of them, but I just find them too long a lot of the time. When Arlo makes a fully scripted, concise video it's usually pretty good (even if I don't always agree with him). My main issue with him is he seems to be less scripted and (much) less concise as time goes on. Certainly don't hate him, though

I hope we get a sequel for FighterZ. One of the absolute best anime games of all time and an excellent fighting game. Struck that hard balance all fighting games are seeking of being approachable, but complex. Not really sure who I’d want added to the game though beside Hercule / Mr. Satan. They have so many characters now!

I'd like to see the single player content developed more, but what was there, was pretty solid.

I just hope we aren't stuck getting bits and pieces for an eternity like Xenoverse 2.

I liked the fun cutscenes with all of the character team ups, but yeah that story mode was kinda eh otherwise. Even with what little was there, FighterZ got me back into Dragon Ball and got me to check out Super which I loved. I thought I was over it for years when I didn’t connect with the Buu saga at all back when it aired on Cartoon Network.
 
I don't know how many of you saw me shit up that Pokémon thread but I'm going to be taking another break.

In short, I've grown very sick of being online. I thought that to some extent it was ResetEra, but perhaps unsurprisingly the problem was me. In addition, I feel that I have weakened the Raccoon persona/brand over the course of the past year or so, and it feels like the time might be right to retire the account. While being moderated on such a lax forum has catalyzed my thoughts on this matter, I'd like to stress that I've been thinking about this for almost six months now, in some respects longer, as several people in this community and adjacent ones can attest. I'm supposed to graduate from college at the end of this calendar year, and I am long overdue for some personal growth.

To that end, I'm going to try to muster up all of my self-control and stay offline until I'm done with school. After that, I'll decide what to do in the long-term. It's feeling like it might be time to quit this internet stuff altogether. I'm simply not having fun anymore, I'm sorry to say.

I'll be online to try and talk to any Pokémon people I upset for the next hour or so, so if there are any lingering questions anyone has for me (as if I haven't overshared enough!) I'll take them now.

BoxBoy Royale: it’s you and 98 other boxpeople running around on a big 2D map that gets incrementally smaller. you can murder the box people by shoving them into pits with your boxmaking, or all the other ways you can normally die in the game (still haven’t completed any of them but I will!)

there’s still light puzzle-solving to open multiple doors leading inwards to the final safe area, so you can decide how much of an uncooperative skid you wanna be

boxes are cumulative so you can bury people alive, but your own box-dropping vanishes once you make a new one

it is pure chaos in my mind and I want it

  • I do not feel strongly about Xenoblade. The big fat wobbly honka bonka boinker doinkers made it easy to make fun of, and I don't care for the non-breast aspects of the visual style of the character designs. Otherwise, I simply do not care
  • To anyone confused, about half of my first party EPD superiority posting was exaggerated for what I convinced myself was comedic effect. Like a lot of my worst running bits, the kernel of truth made keeping when I was joking separate from when I was serious difficult, worsening the whole thing
  • The rutiluphilia (redhead fetish) period of Raccoon jokes is one of my biggest regrets online. Honestly, any hornyposting, comedic or otherwise, was a massive mistake and I apologize to anybody I made uncomfortable because dear lord do I cringe even thinking about it
  • I absolutely have a vague mental list of favorites in this community and I will not apologize for that
  • I genuinely feel bad about upsetting @Dardan Sandiego on the Discord I used to be on. At the time I was only sorry they were upset, but having myself left that server acrimoniously I totally get it now
  • I comment on games that I don't know enough about all the time. It's one of my worst traits that I never shook, though I did do it less over time. It's one of the worst things you can do on a platform like this imo
  • A lot of my hyperbole was meant humorously, but a lot of my flip-flopping comes from my genuinely unstable base of opinions and my unstable emotional state
  • Again, this was also mixed in with my tendency to play up my own neuroses for comedy, to terrible effect. For instance, while I thought bringing up ResetEra all the time in the way it was done recently was bad, I wasn't nearly as upset as I let on
  • As great as you all are, I deeply regret joining ResetEra. I regret joining other places even more.
  • I should have quit while I was ahead.

I'm old as dirt so a lot of my regrets were on places like LiveJournal and MySpace, but suffice to say I know what it's like to have those moments you think back and go "ugh." And that's okay! The fact that you're looking back and cringing means you've grown and you care enough to want to be better. I also know a thing or two about hamming up my own ridiculousness for comedic effect. I think quite a few of us here do it, and I was usually able to pick up on the fact that you were hamming and not actually angry. And it'd bring chuckles. So don't be too hard on yourself.

Obviously yeah, time away from the internet is probably a good thing if you feel you need it (especially these days, good lord), but rest assured you'll be welcomed back if your self-care-and-refocus time gives you the comfort you'd need to return. We gotta have someone to periodically remind us about Deltarune.

I do just for the sake of completeness want to put an extra emphasis on the sexual period of raccoon shitposts as just the worst shit and I hate that I did that. everything else I just sort of regret the normal amount

in conclusion I don't know what the future of the raccoon brand, to lean on a very silly and almost megalomaniacal turn of phrase, looks like. maybe once my life is better I'll be less angry all the time, and when I'm less angry all the time I'll be better

He refuses to be bound by the confines of his walls and as much as I respect it, he gives me great anxiety about cables he could potentially find and chew that might hurt him. Everytime I think I've bunnyproofed the room and smile in triumph, I proceed to be outwitted by a rabbit like Elmer fucking Fudd.

Hey man, take it easy. We all have posts that we will read or think about in a few years that will give us full body cringe reactions. I recently found some RelationshipEraGAF posts I made way way back again that I now feel should have netted me a permanent stay on Yikers Island. But then I remembered that I got banned by the site's owner for them, including a verbal beatdown and it made me gain some perspective: Cringe posting is temporary and does not define who you are as a person even if others (like actual sexual predators for example) throw their sense of superiority into your face.

So do whatever you think will help you with your mental health but also keep in mind that nothing on here needs to be that serious. I know that I give you a tough time sometimes but I hope it still came across that it was tongue in cheek and just message board banter.

As for the Discord stuff, I was mainly annoyed by that being the first thing I saw the moment I logged on. By now that's all water under the bridge and just a funny anecdote. I appreciate it though.

I’ve posted a metric ton of dumb shit on the internet, although at least some of it is in hard to access or deleted spaces from the ‘90s where I won’t be tempted to go read it. It’s okay, everyone has. It doesn’t define you as a person. We’re all more than little bits of text on a screen. Unless I’ve completely misunderstood what counts for reality, that is, which is also possible.

I’m just kind of a rando and lurker but I felt like commiserating.

You don’t have to leave for good or at all. But you should also do what you feel is right for your mental health. Sometimes breaks and giving yourself set times to be online can help keep you from being too Online while not having to sever from your communities and friends.

Where to begin?

1. As @CyberWolfJV says, Arlo really frames this unnecessarily in terms of Nintendo hate. It's not that dislikes were a useful tool for feeding back on wrong decisions or bad products, they're a weapon in the righteous war on Nintendo. So that's what he sees himself as? A crusader against Nintendo? That really destroys his USP as the guy upbeat guy who loves Nintendo but isn't afraid to call them out when needed.

2. This is Arlo narcissism at its finest. He talks like this was done to spite him specifically in his crusade. You might even get the impression that Nintendo was in on this conspiracy. His complaint about Nintendo being focused on their home market, while not totally wrong, comes across like a common Arlo trope of "Don't pay attention to them, pay attention to MEE!"

3. He says the time honoured method of feeding back by not buying the product is too general a message. But how are dislikes any better? The dislikes on the EP trailer are obviously because people don't want N64 on Switch, especially Paper Mario, isn't it?

4. He goes on and on about how without dislikes there is no way to provide feedback. But he admits the dislikes are still there and visible to channel owner. So the method is still there. The EP trailer will still get lots of dislikes because the product is of questionable value. Nintendo will still be able to see that. It's just that the public won't. That disincentivises using it as a dog piling game as the dog pilers don't get to see the fruits of their antics. But if you want to send a message through a dislike you still can.

So this is the new Arlo? Petulant console warrior?

You really have to learn to not let get everything at your core. I know what i'm talking about. I was like that too when i was younger.

But over the time, i learned to accept that i did dumb and shit stuff when i was younger and came to terms with that, and i learned that outside of very few people who are closest to you it doesn't matter what others think of you.

If taking a break could help you getting closer to this, then absolutely do this.

It kinda hurts to admit, but sometimes it feels like I've still got to learn that lesson as well, haha. It's definitely easier said than done, I know that much. Given some recent events in my life over these past two weeks, I feel a lot of sympathy for raccoon and your words/situations like that.
