how's this?

It's so beautiful, thank you

Is there anything better (or worse) than watching a ‘hardcore’ gamer try and use motion controls?

Had a friend who could only play Skyward Sword stood up and he would wave his arms around like an absolute mad man and then blame the game when his actions didn’t translate well on screen. Another favourite was that when you have to point at something, he’d completely outstretch his arm and claim it was tiring to target things.

Meanwhile, I’d just sit down and casually move my wrists to use the sword and point while having a much better overall experience.

I'm curious about next year's GDC, if Nintendo has talks about their dev solutions they used in making TotK.

They kinda solved the "Why is crafting getting annoying" problem, normally every gamedesigner attending GDC should kill to try to get a seat in that talk.

I feel like there's an old Gamespot gif for this.

I feel like I'm going insane with regards to the discussions about the Avatar game from Ubisoft. Am I the only one who always assumed it was an FPS?

I had a friend do this with Mario Kart and the racing wheel, literally steering his body when doing curves and jumping in ramps

Maybe I should also ask if people don't want to participate in the draw just so it's clear haha.

So far, the people in the raffle for the US eshop card are:
@Barely Able
@Mandos
@Pineapple
@LukasManak22

(And I guess I don't need to buy a Canadian card just yet 😅)

The River is most definitely the best song to be sung by the boss:

But one of my personal favorites is Johnny 99 from Nebraska:

The boss is even better when he embraces the rock and roll as it always has been. Pretty depressing song though.

I love that live version of The River because of that beautiful piano intro, like you think it's gonna be a whole other songs, or an alternate intro to Thunder Road...but then that stark harmonica tells you that this is not a happy tale. Still wild to think he wrote this song based on what happened with his sister and her then-boyfriend, and where the song differs is that his sister and now-husband have been going strong for something like 40 years

Ahh, you ain't wrong. Just like with Youngstown and Atlantic City, these starker more folky songs just RIP when it's full tilt rock n roll played by a modestly successful dive bar band

I always like this song by Bruce

Ooh, this is a fun choice. The intro evokes a strong emotion which leads to anti-war sentiment (Vietnam or Iraq, pick your poison), but songs like this being written in 2007 and conservatives still only now discovering that Bruce is more left-leaning than previously theorized (as if BitUSA wasn't the giveaway clue) can only make me laugh

Sheesh I’ve had Asuras wrath and Metal Gear rising revengence in my backlog forever

Midnight Special is a trip, they did a by the decade plus best of dvd set(don’t know if they did a reprint or put in bluray) that is totally awesome, and it’s wild cause this is long before mtv or music videos being a thing so it was one of the original live performance shows ever broadcasted. It’s what a lot of these YouTube postings are pulled from(the dvd I mean). It’s been a while but a couple off the top of my head that are definitely worth looking up are: Feels so Good(Chuck Mangione), Deliah(Tom Jones), Summer Breeze(do I even need to say on this one?), Le Freak, and for the last one I’ll just post it

(Not my fave Argent song tho, Lothlorien, Liar and God Gave rock and roll to you rank higher)

As soon as the chorus kicked in I recognized the song, but yeah I'm definitely gonna go on a hunt for these Midnight Specials wherever they might be. Hell I could also ask a friend to see if he can get them on his Plex server haha

US
Jungeland is my favorite, my dad would often play the album this song was on for our trip home. It would end almost at the exact time we would pull in, so that always kind of stuck with me. So even when that wasn't playing for our trip home I would remember the ending and have that play off in my head to "complete" the car ride home. lol I still do this on occasion now for long trips. Other than that I really like the sax, violin and piano here accompanied by his singing.

Those mournful wails into the night timing perfectly as you pull into a driveway I've done as well, but man it just feels right. It's also the song that truly feels cinematic to me. I close my eyes, and I can see the storyboard so vividly appear in images in the back of my mind. If I had the skill set, I wish I could animate a ten minute music video that brings to life the story of Magic Rat and Barefoot Girl (animation style of Into The Spider-Verse; "Kids flash guitars just like switchblades, hustling for the record machine" is just begging for creative and flashy imagery).

This is where I admit that one of my musical blind spots is that I know almost nothing about Bruce Springsteen or most of his music. Born in the USA, I guess I know that one? I like saxophones though!
Well, have I got an infograph for you!

This was made ten years ago, so it's missing four albums, about two dozen live concert official releases and the Blinded By The Light movie soundtrack, but for the most part it's accurate. High Hopes springs off Wrecking Ball as a slightly less cohesive Political Bruce, Western Stars comes off Born In The USA if you want Hank Williams spaghetti western inspired country twang (and also covered Rhinestone Cowboy for the tie-in movie back in 2019), Letter To You if you want more feels after Darkness On The Edge Of Town but related to ageing, and Only The Strong Survive is floating in a vacuum of lesser-known-but-still-major Soul classics from Dobie Gray, Four Tops, Commodores, Ben E King, The Temptations and more.

So, is this the Nintendo or the Springsteen General Discussion Thread? xD
AlwaysHasBeen.astronaut
Greetings, comrades and weebs alike! My fellow beloved degenerates, welcome one and all to our latest home for discussion of our patron saint of winners, losers, runaway tramps and yearning for a better life for themselves and their loved ones, Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen all that Nintendo has to offer!

"Booooorn outside the USAAAAAA, i was, boooooorn outside the USAAAAA."
..why was the first thing I think was Cheech & Chong's "I was born in East L.A." 😂

US giftcard.

It's gotta be Glory Days, I have fond memories for this one since my grandpa was listening to it a lot so I remember it still like it was yesterday.

Thanks for running the thread, I was not so active here but I apperciate all the time you put into it even with all the different questions!
Glory Days is genuinely so fun even for boomer classic rock, but at the same time humbling as you get older and all of a sudden the lyrics get a little more poignant with every year passing by.

Thank you for the kind words, and I hope the weekly questions still kept you thinking about your favourite games on Switch!

In case I don’t get the chance later, excellent ST this month @Brofield ! I enjoyed the weekly questions especially :)
Thank you so much, and I'm especially glad to hear that you enjoyed the questions too! I hope everyone enjoyed reading each other's thoughts on their most influential and hyped games for the little console that could
Sorry for lightly peer-pressuring you into hosting @Brofield

You did great!
Nah, no need to be sorry for the pear-pressuring; I figured I was gonna do it eventually anyways but I do appreciate kicking my ass into gear. It's been fun!

Thanks for great ST @Brofield!

With the month ending, a long bet comes to an end as well. Sometime last year, @mazi and I made an avatar bet. The premise was simple: will there be a new, more powerful Nintendo Switch released by March 31, 2023? I voted yes, and mazi voted no. Clearly I lost this bet lol.

I think we agreed to a one-week avatar change (mazi feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken). So please mazi, let me know what I will be wearing as a badge of shame for the next week!
Thank you, I hope I did everyone proud steering this madhouse haha

I miss it when these threads reached 7k or 8k posts, but otoh I also like how we now have a ton of big active threads (and more activity overall in other threads).
I was looking back at older STs and though it felt bittersweet at first given how the total posts tend to fall over time, I agree it is nice knowing that the community is coming into bloom as a result with a thriving thread count and healthy engagement throughout the site.

I still see random mentions of “Wii’s garbage motion controls” on YouTube channels if I’m looking for specific game reviews or whatnot and think these people must be doing them wrong. I can see complaints about tacked on stuff when a button input could suffice, but not motion controls as a whole.

Your story sounds like when they embellish game playing in tv or movies, lol.

Holy shit I just did the village fight in Resi 4 with 0 damage taken and Dr. Salvador killed.

Feel like an utter badass right now ngl.

Today in your Rumors of the Day:

AndresRestart has claimed in a new video that "from a source he can't specify" Metroid Prime 4 has completed development.

Who is he ? That sound plausible (+4 years of development) and they can spend the rest of +6 months (assuming the game releases this fall) to polished, QA testing and such (+maybe upgrading the game with RT support to next Switch HW)

Yeah the dvd set of The Midnight Special best is out of print so you’ll have to get it however you can since that’s the only wide form release any part of the show got

I really liked Streets of Philadelphia, awesome song. I don’t get the rest, but then I‘m not an American.
Streets of Philadelphia is so fascinating to me as the subject matter of choice for the song regarding the AIDS epidemic in the 1990s (and Elton John did such a beautiful cover at a MusiCares event; someone who arguably has felt the impact and ravages more), originally written by someone generally perceived as the Straight Man's Straight Man™, but for all the queer discourse that surrounds so much of Springsteen's lyrical songwriting and stories he tells, there's bizarrely not a lot of analysis behind that song for the movie it was written for.

It is with great sorrow I realize we are now approaching five months since November 2nd and only ONE N64 NSO title to show for it. Fucking hell. If that roadmap from September of only six games for the entirety of 2023, that's just absurd. For fuck's sake, Super Smash Bros 64 should not take this long to get onto the service when the online multiplayer is gonna be dogshit anyways; nothing is gonna change that so I can't imagine what the hold up is gonna be.

The only thing that is making me smile is the latest trailer from the Super Mario movie

In that very first frame, it looks like a photo of Lil Mac and Doc, and then Luigi's cell phone jingle are the opening notes to the Gamecube turning on

All this Springsteen love

Dig it
Me too; more than I care to admit.

Springsteen and Nintendo? Felt like for the longest time the only person I could relate to is Jimmy Fallon. Not that I find it necessarily a bad thing per se (plus he was in Jurassic World; another bonus point for dinosaurs), but I know how it seems a fair few people on the internet feel about Fallon if they do have thoughts about him, and a part of me always felt disheartened that others might think the same of me as a result before they get to know me 😅

Anxiety is a sonuvabitch

Wanna see The Boss just stand back and be in awe of another legend? Of course you do.

You have IMMACULATE timing, given this just finished on my Springsteen playlist in Spotify ahaha

I remember when his team released this video and I feel it's one of the best indicators of watching the process at work; (re)learning to cover a song they haven't played in 40 years at the time, and in the span of 9 minutes Bruce as bandleader figures out how to play a three minute song that's doubled in length with multiple instrument solos across horns, piano and guitars

Great thread, @Brofield ! It was kind of a slower month and a lot of the discussion went over to the Zelda threads, but this was a great place to hang out and vibe as usual. And now I have Bruce Springsteen homework to work on!

I'm more than happy to take on a calmer month 😋 Maybe for the best that the new Switch wasn't announced; too much madness to take stock of and what to keep track of otherwise lol

And glad to help and open new worlds! The melodies themselves are catchy as hell and a firmly encapsulated in the genre of boomer classic rock, but as time goes on and I dive deeper into the more intricate subtleties of his lyrics, they really do transcend time and I think more people need to give him dues for the kind of progressive and inclusive values he champions. I know I'm not the biggest Springsteen fan out there in the world, but I strive to ensure my legacy is that I'm the biggest Springsteen fan any of y'all might ever know haha

Feels good being able to finally turn off Wario64 notifications. I've kept them on since the day the TotK CE was announced and subsequently sold out. NGL they were driving me a little crazy.

Now I can rest.................. at least until it's Switch 2 time

Behold the dreaded(not really, I’m on a tight budget this year so outside of limited window/major but cheap reprints plus a few Hgwfm I’m trying to not buy much so I’m happy I have plenty to work on ) backlog

IMG_6624.jpg
IMG_6626.jpg

Also the sorted shot. Got rid of 3 storage boxes. What's out is my active Queue. Done for today tho
IMG_6627.jpg

Some of this stuff has been sitting a bit tho, had a period I didn’t have time for much building. Will start one of the ones I have put in a couple days. Haven’t decided yet but leaning Aerial first

I just finished The Return of the King Extended Edition. What an incredible movie. My only nitpick is that they probably could’ve moved the Saruman scene to the end of The Two Towers.

This is a bit of an odd ask but I think I’m having a weird Mandela Effect moment…

I’m way out of the loop on Pokémon games but I swear there was a scene in one of the trailers during the 3DS era where you’re transported to some random dungeon and there’s some Eldritch and non-Euclidean things going on. Like a waterfall that’s going backwards and maybe not straight up and down? Also the color scheme was purplish?

Did I completely hallucinate this being an actual thing in one of the games? I’ve been trying to track this down today and failing at it.

Not 3DS, but that's Pokemon Platinum in the Distortion World before you face Giratina (8:15 is where you're thinking of the waterfall)

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking of! Not sure where I saw a clip of that then, because I wasn’t paying attention to the series after bouncing off Pearl. Also not sure why that popped into my head recently.

Oh well, another day where I’m not going crazy is a good day 😅

Okay, maybe someone put it there without you looking, but I needed to make sure you're aware that someone put a Switch running a.... I hope you're seated for this.... running a game! Sure whoever did this tried to hide it in the middle of your really cool collection, but if you look closely you can see it

Actually anime, was watching Raven in the inner palace on crunchyroll (out of season dub) while sorting.

Also nearing the end of chapter 13 in FEWTH on scarlet Blaze… don’t know how much more this means I have left tho XD
