StarTopic Metroid Prime Remastered |ST| Prime Prophecy Fulfilled

Both parts of the Metroid Prime fight are pretty clever, but I think it was a mistake keeping the added health the Japanese version of GC Prime had for the second form. It’s just too much health considering the number of attacks it has, must be even more of a slog in hard mode.
Were there other balance changes in the JPN version?

I finished it on hard mode this week with 100% items and like 97% logbook. I missed scanning a couple of creatures that only appear once. But I’ll play again and get those.

I was confused about the difficulty levels though. Normal and Hard didn’t give me tons of trouble in remastered and I was expecting to unlock hypermode difficulty after finishing it. But apparently hypermode on MPT is the same as hard in remastered and the original?

I never got the artifact issue. I had only 1, the other 11 I did in a single hour session. It tells you the exact room they're in, so idk what the confusion is. Could be that I played it 20 years ago so I had an instinct I wasn't aware of.

Yes. Normal in MPT was a new, easier difficulty mode. I believe it's the same as casual in MPR.

Finding these last three missile expansions is gonna be a pain in the ass. They must all be in the mines somewhere.

I'm down! Just as long as I can still play as a cool bird. Raven Beak was definitely cool, but also a two-dimensional bad guy, and a total "Chozo bozo" with that botched plan of his.
RIP me. I just passed away.
"Chozo bozo" lololol

humanity at large was especially allergic to the word "backtracking" around the turn of the millennium. their souls left their bodies and evaporated into the void upon the sheer notion of the b-word.

no but really, read lots of reviews and writeups and posts from that time about games where retraversal is a key aspect of the game design and the word "backtracking" will be followed by a silent *spit* every time it comes up. forward forward forwards. also hi, welcome to my "this is how we ended up with call of duty and final fantasy xiii corridor memes" talk. XD

I'm imagining a Souls game coming out during those years and I'm cackling. Yea no wonder the FROM reappraisal had to wait until we got sick of rollercoasters and corridors^^

edit: okay lol this timing had me rolling on the floor (while already being dead from earlier) dying (again, like this is Sekiro)

Maybe it's successful, maybe it isn't. Who can tell...

Considering the digital first launch, selling half of what the og sold is pretty good (since the og was the best seller in the franchise up to less than two years ago). I'm also impressed that it sold only 1000 copies less than TERF Legacy in the TERF's home country.

The two-stick + gyro controls already make the movement feel more fluid, but thinking forward to Prime 4, I would love to see more varied movement options to make Samus feel nimble in the way she is in Dread. This could make both the combat and the traversal around the map more interesting.

i keep saying that but mp4 will certainly take inspiration from games like doom, who really in my opinion are the best in movement.

MPR itself has already taken inspiration from other FPS games in other areas such as visuals. Perhaps not really inspiration since the same guy who did the art direction in BF5 also did it for MPR, and i think they both have similar lighting, tho ofc bf5 looks much technically better!)

Is the energy tank in Hall of the Elders (Chozo Ruins) missable?

I activated the red bomb slot and got the artifact there, and now the statue is locked into place and the other bomb slots are unavailable, so I can't activate the white one. I've entered and left the room several times and nothing.

EDIT: Nevermind, when I left Chozo Ruins and came back the slots reset.

Huh, usually the statue resets once you've gone inside. Maybe try leaving Chozo Ruins.

He only knows retail numbers (which are 45% lower than for the original release) but doesn't have digital.
Oh I thought the statement was still just talking about physical, in which case he'd have the numbers. If he's saying he doesn't know if it's the biggest launch including digital, yeah that makes sense.

Had this game on gamecube when i was younger, but i never beat it. Enjoying the heck out of it now, and much further than i could get as a kid. Man though, these chozo ghosts really suck. I figured out the trick, but they are still tedious to be locked in a room with

So what am I supposed to do in the Meta Ridley fight? When he gets down to the ground, I don't understand what's happening at all. Where am I supposed to aim, and when? It seems completely random whenever I hit him and he exposes his weak point, I don't know how I did it not what I have to do.

Also, how do I avoid the laser beams and the lunge attacks?

The fight is pretty breezy until I get him to 20% of his health and then it's all completely random and I can't damage him or avoid his attacks and he just slowly drains all my health until I die.

If I remember—and I might not—he's vulnerable in his mouth, and hitting it enough when it's open will force him to expose his chest

For the lasers, jump. For the lunge attacks, dodge (and keep moving because he has follow ups if you stay close)

Got it, just killed him. I wonder if there are any no damage runs of this fight, it seems designed to be tanked just like Ridley was in Super.

That’s maybe the only complaint I have about this game: too many ghost boys

I could be wrong but I think they only lock you out of the great hall room their initial appearance and the X ray visor room

Metroid Prime was a great boss. The shell part not so much, the color mechanic was reaaaaally old by that point, after all the insufferable pirates and the even worse Fission Metroid.

Finished the game at 17h with 71% completion. I might go back to this game in a few years now that I have more of an idea what to expect and where things are generally, but it kind of exhausted me with all the backtracking so I just want to take a rest from it right now.

Use Super Missiles against Chozo Ghosts. I seriously had no idea they worked against them, until this release. I honestly thought they were only vulnerable to the Power / Charge Beam. Turns out those annoying Chozo bozos die rapidly to Super Missiles! Fml. They also work against Power Beam Pirates.

Also the best option for auto turrets

Physical launch in the UK was number 2 last week. Fourth highest Metroid launch and second best physical launch of the year so far, above FE Engage and Dead Space. Pretty damn good considering this comes after 1 month of digital sales.

I just beat Metroid Prime Remastered 100%! My story with Metroid Prime is that I never beat it, furthest I ever got before playing remastered is the first Phazon Mines visit to get Power Bombs but now I've beaten the game for the first time with 100% items at that with no guide! Unfortunately I did miss a few one-time scans but still got +90% scans overall though.

Thought I'd done a pretty good sweep of everything but in fact I aint' done yet. Need to finish going through the Phazon Mines one last time, then probably the Chozo Ruins? There are three missile upgrades somewhere out there...

Man, it’s been over ten years since I last played it and I still remember item locations. That memory of mine

Nerd mode activated; this gaming makes incredibly striking use of Physically Based Rendering, more so than anything else I've seen on Switch.

The way that light interacts with the materials is remarkably realistic and nuanced; weathered stonework really looks like stone, metal boxes really look like metal. It gives the game such a richly tangible feel that really enhances the believability of its world.

I did it. Finally got all the items

Ridley and the Prime Metroid are about to eat a whole lot of plasma/missiles

Alright I've hit a wall with this game.

I've gone through the chocolate ruins and gone everywhere I'm able to go, entered the magmoor caverns but can't go deep in there. I also went to those pillars telling me to bring those keys to them.

I have the morph ball, charge beam power ups plus some health and missile quantiry upgrades.

I cant go further because some areas are too hot, some need a grappling hook, some need that spider ball thing to roll up them. Some stuff I just can't physically jump too, some need an upgraded missile to destroy.

I've explored everywhere I can go, what am I missing?

your not done with the chozo ruins did you scan the four keys in the tree area? and morph ball bombs?

I have morph ball bombs, I scanned a thing that said I needed to find the 4 keys, but I didn't find any nearby, are they just scattered around the ruins?
Like the charge beam room there’s another room with four glyphs to scan.

Tall room with the tree in the middle surrounded by poison water.

Oooo.... did a 100% scan and item completion, but still have 13 items in my gallery to unlock. I'm guessing that's all locked behind beating the game on Hard mode? Do I need to 100% it again?

As far as I can tell, you only need to beat it on hard, but I can be wrong.

Prime Remastered is done! I enjoyed the game more than I originally did back on the Wii. All items too (but not 100% scans smh)

...but man, it makes me a little sad knowing that with how much effort they put into this game I highly doubt Prime 2 and 3 will get this. They deserve it but I'm not thinking its likely.

Also the Impact Crater is more gross than I expected and remembered in a sense. That final boss theme doesn't get old though.

Dead Space sold over 2 million, so if Metroid Prime ends up somewhere around the 2-3 million mark those are very good numbers.

Anything more than 3 million would be incredible and beyond my expectations tbh.

Just beat the game tonight! 71% completion in 12:00 hrs. My first time properly playing Metroid Prime, and I really enjoyed it. After Dread (first one I played more than a couple hours) and now Prime Remastered, I think I've become a Metroid fan :D

Graphics were beautiful, maybe the best looking Switch game I've played. Chozo Ruins stood out to me in particular, I think the lighting really shined there. The Soundtrack was awesome as well, totally deserves the praise it gets. Dual stick controls + gyro worked really well, think I would've struggled with the classic controls.

The atmosphere, puzzles, upgrades and lore were great, can definitely see why this is considered a classic, I can't imagine how I would've felt playing it 20+ years ago! Getting lost in a new area, noticing something small that pays off with a hidden item, or solving a clever puzzle to get an optional upgrade, it was so satisfying!

I do have a few annoyances:
  • bosses. Some were fine, but a few really stuck out as frustrating. Omega Pirate. The last part of Meta Ridley. And the last phase of Metroid Prime. Some of the frustration was the bullet spongey-ness, some was it being unclear with what it expects of you, some of it was related to my next point which is...
  • The visors! This might be my biggest complaint honestly. The xray and thermal visors look awful and I could barely see anything while using them. They single-handedly made the Metroid Prime second phase artificially difficult and frustrating. Did anyone else have any trouble using these or is it just my brain having issues processing those images? Cos during that fight there were many times I was like "where am I in the room, where's the boss, why can't I see anything. Why am I being damaged?? Oh a Metroid has been sucking on me for the past 10 seconds and I couldn't even tell cos of this damn visor!!" (those Fission Metroids were just the worst...)
  • First person platforming. Maybe just a personal thing, but I struggled at times with this. I already generally prefer third person games, but especially if there's any platforming. Difficult for me to judge jumps, what is immediately around me, etc. It was also sometimes an issue while in combat with a bunch of enemies in a small space.

Aside from those few sour notes, I loved my time with it. I even didn't mind the Artifact fetch quest! Can't wait for Prime 4 now, and I would really love for Prime 2 & 3 to get the same treatment, I want to play more of this franchise!

Favourite Area: Phendrana Drifts (Chozo Ruins a close 2nd)
Favourite Boss: Metroid Prime phase 1 (Flaaghra if we're talking full boss fight)
Favourite Enemy: Stone toads. Gotta love em.
Favourite Strat: Freeze + Missile

I finally, finally, FINALLY got the game yesterday in the mail. Played like 30 minutes before bed.

It's still that good, folks

The symbols you need to scan are always contained in the same room. If I'm not mistaken, youre in that tall room with a tree, there are a couple breakable tiles up there that you can bomb with the morph ball to advance.
