My partner has rightly suggested that you should play a Spirate Pirate and your pursuer enemy should be SamusHey you know what
Use this for someone who isn't Samus, or a whole game hwere Samus isn't in her power suit, and I'd be about it
Use it to tell me about Samus's other relationships. Hell, put me in the shoes of one of Samus's gay bird dads during the invasion of Zebes, that'd be sick
hm idk, tbh I think it could work in her regular suit? like, we've seen from the 2D games that the enemies are pretty powerful, and if anything it's more odd that she doesn't struggle against enemies more. you could even go from a power level of REmake 2 to more RE4 in terms of combat/vulnerability as you upgrade suits, beams, etc.Hey you know what

That's the thing about this franchise: nobody is making games like this. Some people liked to roll their eyes at what was thought to be nothing but a marketing term when they made it a point to call this a "first person adventure" but that's exactly what these are. That's why I sound the siren everytime someone calls these games FPS games because that's not at all what they are. They're adventure games. Slow paced exploration and puzzle game in 3D mazes where it's not about surviving combat encounters and aiming well. Prime games were always one step removed from being more like an Immersive-Sim-style game, lacking the dynamic game systems to truly situate themselves in that space but they've comfortably carved out their niche in the FPA lounge that nobody else ever really tries to pass through. So I'm about to pick up the Thermal Visor, put the game into sleep mode right in front of it
The thing that strikes me the most about this release is that it didn't really age. The game was weird and different and sort of clunky compared to Halo back in 2002, and it remains exactly that today, just with better controls—but the flow of the game, walking through the world, figuring out what item pickups I can get with an area's powerup versus the ones I need to return to when fully kitted out, the mood, the music, just the vibes—none of that has aged a day. This is a very rare kind of game that remains almost exactly as good now as it was twenty years ago

doesn't even need to when recent releases have shown that his protegés may well end up making the better games (now). it's not 1996-2005 anymore! But who knows what he'll do now after Tango. I doubt he'll just retire early. Will it be directed by Shinji Mikami?

Ugh, this part right here threw me for a loop. The X-ray visor is found in a completely different region of the world. In what Universe would I correlate its use here without some kind of hint? And these platforms don't even have the particle hints the other ones do where you could see droplets of rain pouring on them.Huh, how exactly was I supposed to figure out I had to use the x-ray visor in Metroid Quarantine A to reveal those hidden platforms? Was I just supposed to scan the entire map with x-ray? Because there wasn't any other instance of platforms being hidden like this before, the way x-ray is introduced sounds like you use to look for hollow walls.
Even worse, the game's hinting system sent me to the wrong place. It's sending me to the Phazon Processing Center, but I can't advance there because I'm still vulnerable to Phazon.
I'm approaching 15h on the clock which is by far the longest any Metroid game has ever taken me and I think at least half of that playtime I was just slowly transversing the same places exactly the same way again and again. It's too damn slow to go from point A to B in this game for it to rely so much on blind backtracking, I'm just tired at this point and I started using a walkthrough (which I'm glad I did because otherwise I would never find out about those random x ray platforms).

edit: apparently not in that location?
It's not sending you to the wrong place? Pretty sure that's where you head after finding the platforms.Even worse, the game's hinting system sent me to the wrong place. It's sending me to the Phazon Processing Center, but I can't advance there because I'm still vulnerable to Phazon.

Also ngl, I'm not sure how it's the games fault that you don't want to use a visor that is introduced right before that as showing invisible objects or unseen areas. I say this as someone who got there and didn't have the visor and got frustrated, I dont know how thats a problem with the game if you already have the visor.
I sympathize with the complaint about the visor being uncomfortable. I guess the rest is just a bit weird to me. You get the visor with the very same power bombs you get in Phazon Mines. The hint system tells you you needed to be there, but even before that, wouldn't the fact that that's the only part of Phazon Mines you can't get to before the visor hint tip you off? You get the visor very shortly before using it too. And that specific area is very narrow, so "does the game expect me to scan entire rooms with x ray" is weird to me. You basically just turn on x ray, maybe move the analog a bit. You already know that there are hidden areas with the x ray too.The visor is far too uncomfortable to use the whole time, so I was expecting the game to prompt me somehow on when to use it. It's also found all the way back in Tallon Overworld (which was another location that seemed random to me), and after that you also get the Plasma Beam, so it's not like returning to that specific place in Phazon Mines with the visor on was obvious or anything. I was looking for doors I could open with the Plasma Beam as that was the latest upgrade.
Dual sticks as a base, turn on gyro camera in options when you boot the game up. Camera speed with gyro reduced to low enough to be comfortable and accurate when you're adjusting aim. No need for camera control when locked on, but you can turn it on to your tasteI'm about to play Prime for the first time ever.
Anyone can give me some advise on the best controlling scheme for:

nobody knows. the only discourse right now is a) whether or not 2 and 3 get touched at all b) whether it's a a visual remake like this or a simpler basic upscale since the insiders can't agree on what which version of the story they want to cling to this timeCan anyone that's kept up with the rumours tell me if I should expect 2 and 3 any time soon/ever? Last I checked noone seemed to know.
Thanks. I suppose things will become more clear once we learn what's happening with MP4. Hopefully around E3.nobody knows. the only discourse right now is a) whether or not 2 and 3 get touched at all b) whether it's a a visual remake like this or a simpler basic upscale since the insiders can't agree on what which version of the story they want to cling to this time
definitely do not expect them anytime soon.
the stock is so low due to the demand being much higher than expected, not because they randomly shipped only a few units. this is clearly blowing their expectations out of the water. it's been dominating the eShops around the nintenglobeman considering it's still #1 on eshop and the physical versions selling out (although due to low stock) I imagine prime remastered must be selling above what Nintendo and retro were expecting

We really do need a Metroid game where you play as a member of an alien race. I think the obvious pick would be a Chozo though, especially after how well Raven Beak was received.I'd rather play as one of the Luminoth Warriors.

(!!!) spin-offs that aren't sports games or musou games (!!!) (those were cool once or twice but I'm already tired of them conceptually)I think spinoffs should be a big priority for Nintendo for the big three. Mainline entries are now taking 5+ years to make, and I'm pretty sure everyone would prefer a game every 2-3 years vs every 5-6. It also allows them to try all sorts of new ideas and gameplay types that they normally wouldn't. These games could be outsourced. Plenty of talented third party developers I'm sure would love to work on iconic series.
You know, I was thinking about this recently, it's kind of unfortunate that the spin-offs (Federation Force) or new gameplay styles (Other M) we did get either ended up not coming out at the right time or being poorly received. If I were Nintendo, I'd be kind of frustrated that the only ways Metroid fans are ok with supporting the growth of the franchise is with Retro / Classic gameplay.(!!!) spin-offs that aren't sports games or musou games (!!!) I'm not saying thats why people did, but that Nintendo is probably cautious about expanding the brand much past what is essentially just the main games. Even as far as main games go, there was that weird thing where they didn't show Samus Returns at their E3 direct, don't know what was up with that. Hopefully Nintendo knows that spin-offs can work given the right circumstance.I don't think people rejected Other M (mostly) because it was mechanically different
Its nintendo's fault that both other m and ff suck, on different levels. You know, I was thinking about this recently, it's kind of unfortunate that the spin-offs (Federation Force) or new gameplay styles (Other M) we did get either ended up not coming out at the right time or being poorly received. Now obviously the spin-offs need to be good and appropriate for Metroid, but like, if Nintendo gives a decent shot at expanding outside the mainline / Prime games again, I hope people give it a fair shot next time (and I hope its good myself, because admittedly Federation Force looked mediocre as shit)

Grabbed the last of the items needed for 100%, so I'll be finishing this game later today. I can't believe how pleasing the visuals have been. My only criticism is that the darks are too dark. The lighting took a major hit.
I really hope they got someone over there thinking about this with a less stuck-in-the past mindset, still feeling the burns from OM and FF, instead with the correct perspective on what the actual problems were with the games themselves and surrounding them. They could even make both of these games again, just starting over from scratch and just taking the core idea and build it out again (a post-Super game that deals directly with the fallout from that, wrapped in a whodunnit on another space station with third person 3D gameplay; a Federation Troopers mission based solo/co-op game that mechanically plays like Prime) and they could both be absolute bangers. You know, I was thinking about this recently, it's kind of unfortunate that the spin-offs (Federation Force) or new gameplay styles (Other M) we did get either ended up not coming out at the right time or being poorly received. FF doesn't suck though, it just looks like it does. Its nintendo's fault that both other m and ff suck, on different levels.
Yes I know, lol. Again, my point was moreso that I hope Nintendo doesn't misunderstand why fans didn't like those games. It's not because spin-offs or experimentations are bad!Its nintendo's fault that both other m and ff suck, on different levels.
Ah, I couldn't remember if it was that one, yeah. That was such a weird decision by Nintendo to make that direct the one that was Switch exclusive. Like, I get it. They wanted to keep Switch momentum going. But they had at least a few directs after with 3DS games, where 3DS games were less worth showing than Samus Returns or FE Echoes. The spotlight was exclusive for switch games.
As for spin offs, it all depends on Prime 4. Literally. 2d isnt going to get anything more than the 2d games and Prime is reliant on the massive success of MP4 for it to finally branch off into new and HOPEFULLY expansive and ambitious spin off games.
I'd rather play as one of the Luminoth Warriors.
I'm down! Just as long as I can still play as a cool bird. Raven Beak was definitely cool, but also a two-dimensional bad guy, and a total "Chozo bozo" with that botched plan of his.Chibi-Chozo!
this is a reference to Chibi-Robo!, not Federation Force, just to avoid any MPFF drama
Yes! I'm in total agreement. I'd love some Metroid spinoffs that are actually good. Hopefully not a Metroid musou, but I'd even take one of those, honestly. I'd love a survival horror spinoff, a boss fight one, or an action game with a focus on combat, as opposed to exploration. In terms of Chozo or Luminoth lore, something set in the distant past could be really neat. I just feel like they'd go with the Chozo, simply because they have a much wider impact on the series as a whole.I know. There is so much potential for an awesome Metroid spinoff. Chozo would be the #1 choice of course. Luminoth would be awesome too (psionic and flight abilities to start). Much like Zelda, I desperately want an RPG spinoff where you control a party of the various races that have appeared in the series. Even the basic concept of the battles between the Federation and the Space Pirates itself has a lot of potential. Yet we get stuff like FF and Triforce Heroes. I will give them credit for Mario and Rabbids though. We need weird stuff like that for Zelda and Metroid too!

The Thardus and Meta Ridley fights in particular just go on for too long. Flaahgra and Metroid Prime itself are the game's best bosses, I'd say.And now the game is complete. I had a much harder time against Meta Ridley than any part of Metroid Prime. You all were largely right, the bosses aged a lot worse than I thought (and I just replayed this 5 years ago! A lot changes.) but the areas themselves aged so beautifully
You might've pulled a 720p tier move for the entire duration of your playthrough, tbh. See this helpful post. Worked for me.Grabbed the last of the items needed for 100%, so I'll be finishing this game later today. I can't believe how pleasing the visuals have been. yeah it should have 2/3 of the health it has on normal mode on all modesBoth parts of the Metroid Prime fight are pretty clever, but I think it was a mistake keeping the added health the Japanese version of GC Prime had for the second form. It’s just too much health considering the number of attacks it has, must be even more of a slog in hard mode.
