Sounds like Nintendo's usual end-of-console wind-down, if true. Switch 2 early 2024, then?

If that's the case, then my question is when we'll actually see it. An October/September reveal would cut into the Switch's last holiday season, you'd think want to let that play out before revealing the next console...

Well, the Switch release window of March 2017 was announced in April 2016 and the console was revealed in October of 2016 so there is precedent. Granted that was the Wii-U so there weren't any sales to take away with announcing it before the holidays.

If Spring 2024 is when the release is happening, I think at some point this year Nintendo acknowledges that hardware is coming next year. If it isn't until later next year, we might be waiting a while.

Honestly, my backlog is so busy that I really won't mind a light second half of the year

Maybe I'll have time to finally get back into FFXIV

I feel like I've said this a million times now, but I hope people don't start dooming when they hear "lighter second half". Just because there's less major games doesn't mean there's no major games. It probably also means that there's not a bunch of titles that need gameplay and/or feature reveals to show what the game is about. 2D Mario is self explanatory for example. Ports and remakes are self explanatory. Pikmin 4 is most likely self explanatory.

Its why i am so excited for this next direct, if it is filled with alot of remasters for instance we already getting Kirby this month in February, then Nintendo is obviously trying to fill some holes

I kind of miss the days of seeing massive crowds run towards certain booths at E3 like the Wii in 2006 and Breath of the Wild in 2016. But I feel like those days are far behind us now. Demos at E3 used to be an opportunity to see or even play a game well in advance. Nowadays, game demos are more widely distributed to other conventions or events and for many titles, the gap between when something is first played by the public to when the game is actually released is pretty short.

We need to stop willing 2D Mario and will in DK for the holiday title.

There's genuinely a pretty good chance I get more out of this year's H2 than last year's, heck, despite the quantity, I'm sure some still see H2 2021 as "light" due to most of the titles being "lower tier" and that was my favourite year of the Switch by far

I look at remasters as just a continuation of what Nintendo already did in the past, bringing over a console game into a portable format. Bring back a 10 year old game, maybe add in some new features, make it portable, and now with the Switch, graphical improvements can also be done. If there are HD remasters of Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX, then I'm not really surprised because it just seems like something Nintendo would do regardless of the line up of brand new titles. Nintendo knows more than anyone that people will be willing to re-experience their older titles again and are willing to pay a decent amount of money to do so.

Thank goodness Jeff said that. Next week made the most sense.

Also, Nintendo is winding down this Gen. So of course their Switch schedule will have to lighten up until they announce Switch 2 with major games (even cross generational ones)

After all the ups and downs especially the latter we have been through on this forum. its hard to imagine the Switch 2 will ever be a real thing lol

This Direct will probably have a big Mario segment, either at the middle or at the end. We're due for the final Mario Movie trailer pretty soon, there's two Mario game DLC's coming out in the next few months, and we need a new Mario game in general. I wouldn't be surprised if Miyamoto is brought in again.

The lack of a big Mario game coming this year (so far) makes me think one is being saved to launch alongside Switch 2. It won’t be exclusive to it but will have some extra features thanks to the new systems power.

I imagine that they are having a little breather to allow their teams to catch up to ensure Switch 2 has a steady stream of big releases in the opening year. Filling any gaps with remasters is perfectly fine by me (As long as one of them ends up being TTYD)

Silksong e-shop being updated is actually very interesting, because an eventual reveal might not be tied to the Direct. Team Cherry is willing to announce stuff on their own, ESPECIALLY in February.

AKA Silksong could be released today. And you wouldn't know it because you're stuck at work. While everyone else is playing.

If the new console is next year then I feel similarly. People new to Mario would have plenty of Mario games to choose from if they're hyped enough to buy a Switch for the first time after seeing the movie.

It's 100% possible we get a new Mario platformer this year but I don't think it's a for sure guarantee.

It's time to evoke our Holy Grail, Patterns

Team Cherry announced Silksong the day after a Nintendo Direct. Thus, Silksong will be released one day after the Nintendo Direct, on Friday, February 10th

ngl I enjoyed Fire Emblem: Engage so much that i think this year has already beat out 2020 for me on that alone

if Zelda and Pikmin 4 are anything but massive disappointments this is easily a top 3 Switch year, even if there's literally nothing else (there won't be)

Idk anything, but I have a feeling Nate’s Nintendo predictions video will have similar sentiments to what’s being said by IGN, Andy, Chris etc
