Bar Mario-something in June, and bar potentially Advance Wars and something on the eShop, I think the first half of 2023 is largely settled:

  • January: Fire Emblem Engage
  • February: Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe
  • March: Bayonetta Origins
  • April: Advance Wars Reboot Camp
  • May: Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • June: Mario's Decidedly Middling Sports Game

Bear in mind in the same period Splatoon 3, Sparks of Hope, Mario Kart, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Fire Emblem Engage will all get some degree of DLC, and we'll get whatever additions Nintendo want to drip-feed for NSO.

  • July: Tomodachi WORLD MOTHERFUCKERS, Baten Kaitos Spat On and Cleaned Up Edition
  • August: you get nothing
  • September: Pikmin 4, F ZERO GX HD
  • October: New Super Mario World, Metroid Prime I'm Real Now Edition
  • November: Animal Crossing: Whacky Spin-Off that Critics Say Meh To But the Masses Love
  • December: no

And again, in the same period, you get DLC for at least 5 Switch exclusives, as well as the drip-feed on NSO and potentially/hopefully the GB/GBA NSO launch.
This'd be the bext Switch year evear. ZELDER? FZERO? 2D MEHRIO??!! SALIVA ON MY GAEMS???!213

TOTK does not need any advertising. The final trailer wont be released not sooner than two months before launch (same asi the BOTW). There were March directs. So there is not rush at the moment
january's over - still stand with my opinion that we won't get any new info until march. I bet Nintendo shifted its development for next-gen and all the TOTK promotion will go till the end of switch lifecycle. So there is no necessary for Nintendo to talk about TOTK at the moment the game will sell gradually

If you think the Direct hype cycle is intense right now, just wait until this time next year when everyone starts to feel Switch 2 fever. It's going to be like the NX days all over again, times 2.

Just want to comment here to address everyone about the rumour on the Gaming Leaks subreddit earlier today. Was approved by a new mod before I woke up, not something the mod team represents. Looking through the "proof" it was as barebones as it gets.

Also the 7th is not only a Tuesday, a day on which Nintendo has never held a February direct, but it's also the day of the earnings/investors meeting. It makes no sense for the Direct to be on that day. I dont want us to be connected to this rumor at all, treat it as BS.

That being said... I still stand by the "primed and ready" source. If there is no Metroid at the next Direct I will eat all the crow!

Nintendo Plans to Boost Switch Output to Meet Resilient Demand

The final nail in the 2023 new hardware coffin
Price cut, this is going to be the most evergreen year of the system yet, where Nintendo markets the shit out of everything they've put out and makes damn sure that everyone who might buy a Switch has a Switch

Oh y'know what'd be perfect, your Mario Movie tie-in is 3D All-Stars coming back for a few months

I've been shooting it in the face for like an hour straight. It just won't die...
UrYBC0T.gif

I think Christopher Dring considered Luigi’s Mansion 3 as a major title. Anything less than that isn’t.
So not even Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Super Mario Maker 2, Link's Awakening and Kirby and the Forgotten Land are major?
Dring has clarified that he still wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo averages a game a month, just no huge sellers after Zelda. Though I suspect his bar for huge seller is pretty high...
I mean, the only year without a major holiday title(in a sales sense, because even that year had Age of Calamity) was 2020... And that was Switch's peak year, Animal Crossing New Horizons year and 3D World was delayed.
There's no chance of another game that sells as big as TotK to come, but that's true of literally every year except 2017. The huge sellers are just usually stacked on the holiday season, in 2020 and 2023 they happened to be on the first half due to delays.
Metroid Prime Remaster more and more looks like a summer reveal for fall release. Metroid Prime 4 revealed for a 2024 release. We’ll get Pikmin 4, 2D Mario, Tomadachi Life 2, Metroid Prime Remaster, Mario Party, Baten Kaitos this second half.
Mario Party and 2D Mario joining TotK would make 2023 have more major titles(as in sales megatons) than 2022, 2021 and 2020.
yeah his claim is generally fairly meaningless and expected since the big sellers are all accounted for / will be saved for the next gen

there are the interesting exceptions like 2D Mario as noted earlier
Yes. It's a case of "whatever happens, I'm right". Pokémon? Doesn't count because it's GameFreak. Pikmin 4/Metroid Prime 4? Don't count because they don't sell that big. 2D Mario? Doesn't count because it doesn't have the huge budget of TotK. Mario Party? Casual, doesn't count. DK? Sold 10M yeah but I meant selling more than 20M.
I mean, Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon was launched after Switch launch and Black/White 2 launched more than one year after 3DS launch. AND they were huge sellers. Wouldn't be surprised if there's another mainline Pokémon game is in works for current Switch right now. Especially after we got 3 big Pokémon game within just a year.
I think at the very least remakes in 2024 is the safest possible assumption.
And with them not having a new generation on Switch and 3DS until 2.5 years after those consoles came, I'm fairly certain that generation 10 will be cross gen in 2025.
If TotK was the last major release for the Switch then it would have been delayed to the Holidays, the fact that the game is releasing in May is a proof to me that Nintendo has another big game for H2.
And even without a major release, they are releasing 3 exclusive titles in the span of 2 months lol, I think they still have a ton of games to reveal for this year.
Yes, that never made any sense lol.
Only year that didn't have a 10M seller on the holiday season was 2020 because of COVID, Animal Crossing carrying the year, 3D Mario collection being September and 3D World + Bowser's Fury being internally delayed to February 2021.
They'll have a holiday game this year. But I mean what news that rumor even was? The only year that had games selling more than 20M both on the first and second half was 2017.
Also, Nintendo not having a booth is big news. That means they don’t feel like they have enough enticing games to even get space for themselves. This has never?? been done before. That does speak to what’s coming later this year. If a huge title was coming like 3D Mario they would get space for people to play.
I don't think that means anything really other than they probably being pissed over 2020 and 2022, where they made their plans for the event, then the event got canceled and they had to make Partner Directs to maintain their contracts with 3rd party games and announce their games either too close to release on Twitter or something like that.

Being playable at E3 is more of a fan stuff than actually some ground rule. Tears of the Kingdom was not playable in any E3 and nor did Animal Crossing New Horizons.
A few days ago I was pretty adamant that no Metroid would be seen in the February Direct, and that would be saved for E3.

But now E3 isn't happening for Nintendo, I have no idea what to believe.

Will they have another Mini Partner Showcase in June instead of a proper general Direct?

Will we even see Metroid Prime at all this year?

Does Metroid Prime even exist?

Do I even exist?
I think I don't exist tbh but I fully trust Emily so Metroid Prime Remake definitely exists.

I think no E3(apparently it wasn't some change of plans thing this year, they probably already knew they wouldn't be there) makes the possibility of Prime Remake being announced in February more likely.
This is a pretty interesting point of view on things. We didn't have a Nintendo Direct last summer, but the holiday games had already been announced for a while by that point (Splatoon 3 in Feb 2021, Mario + Rabbids in June 2021, Bayonetta 3 in 2017, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in Feb 2022). But this year we have no clue what's coming in the back half other than Pikmin 4. If there's not a summer Direct this year, do they announce everything early? Or will Twitter announcements become normal?
I think it'll be a mix of both. Some announcements will be pushed forward (like holiday games being announced on the February Direct) and some will be pushed back(H1 2024 games being September Direct).
In my head, 2D Mario, Metroid Prime Remake and Baten Kaitos or F-Zero will be February Direct announcements, and Donkey Kong, Kid Icarus and some 2024 surprise like Astral Chain is September Direct.

they already did, it's Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. It's doing double duty this year
It's gonna be super huge but I'm sure as hell they ain't gonna expect Animal Crossing New Horizons effect happening ever again.
The new report says LESS major stuff, not NO major stuff. I'm thinking 2D Mario is the exception.
Oh, so now it makes sense.
I believe 2D Mario is the exception, and Mario Party, Pokémon and casual games that happen to sell more than 10M don't count for whatever reason.
2D Mario makes so much sense this year. Mario movie, Mario theme park land, and no new Mario games announced yet? Come on. The only question is when.
Yeah, it's finally time I think. Hope it doesn't take long to be announced.
Whys everybody talking about 2D mario all the sudden?
Only rumor comes from zippo. Or am I wrong?
I thought he was not credible
Hiring calls for a 2D Action Game by EPD10(iirc) were made back in 2019. This year would make for a reasonable development time.
April having a Mario movie, and several leads of Splatoon 2 not coming back in 3 add further fuel to it.

They don't need 3D All-Stars to return because they already have another old Mario game on the market to sell to people.

Alright, to end January I've written out my Nintendo Direct predictions. I hope that people get a kick out of these, as I had a lot of fun writing them.

Nintendo Direct
2.9.2023

Tune in for roughly 40 minutes of information on upcoming Nintendo Switch titles, including new details about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Everybody's 1-2 Switch
  • April 28, 2023
  • An online party game that uses smart devices so anyone can play, Everybody's 1-2 Switch with feature parties of up to 99 players competing in tests of pitch, artistic prowess, real-life scavenger hunting, and more!
  • Pitch: the host plays or sings a series of tones that players must imitate
  • Drawing: idk a drawing game, could be anything
  • Scavenging: players are given a household object to find and photograph, like Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder. Factors in speed and accuracy.
NOTES:
  • I really do think they'll try to salvage this, and I think the ideas I've conceived for a party game with smart device integration are interesting and use the available hardware well. The possibilities excite me, even with a rework.
  • I'm going with April 28th for Golden Week. It will have physical copies that ship with the Zelda OLED.
  • With physical copies, I feel there will be some sort of offline mode that doesn't require the app, even if it's minimal.

Notes:
  • I believe in a Niantic-EPD collab Nintendogs mobile game (MyNintendogs) with a nice companion app on Switch (MyNintendogs Kennel?) but I think it'll be announced separately some time this spring. I'd love it to be in a Direct but I tried to go for "relatively realistic" here
  • I really, really, really want an old Animal Crossing remaster. Like, really. But again, I had it pinned on Grezzo but they're making Jet Dragon (I guess)
  • Nothing from the Namco Nintendo remaster listings yet.
  • I'm not sure if it's GameBoy time yet, but I wouldn't be surprised. All the same, it might be saved for September or never come at all.
  • Lastly, no Pikmin details yet! I desperately want them but that's not how Nintendo rolls. It'll show up in the summer for a fall release. With the massive merch push, I'm confident that they'll get it out in 2023.

Hey remember when Forgotten Anne was delisted from the Nintendo eShop because Square Enix lost the publishing rights to the developers?

Well it looks like they're finally relisting it under their own publishing name!

With the massive merch push, I'm confident that they'll get it out in 2023.
this would be the best direct I've ever seen

therefore it's got no shot

NO. I'm gonna be optimistic! It's gonna happen!!

Alright, to end January I've written out my Nintendo Direct predictions. I hope that people get a kick out of these, as I had a lot of fun writing them.

Welp I'm up and no direct announced, that's a bummer. I guess theres always next week...but I just can't shake the feeling that we may be hyping up something that doesn't exist. :/

I don't want to believe they'd wait till the absolute last minute to show off Zelda, but it's perfectly out of left field enough to be the exact kinda thing they'd do.

Its's good and well written but I don't agree with E1-2 Switch, we know it ain't happening in the Direct. The Mario and Prime combo in June is just too big to happen, and I think that when they are showing Prime 1 they are showing Prime 4 (please don't anyone bring back the SSHD or Prime 4 at E3 2021) they know they need to show it with Prime 1.

That would genuinely be amazing. Like, just a genuinely really cool way to show the game.

Also, this was a funny post, so thanks for that.

But it will be Takahashi, not Koizumi.
whoops

I don't agree with E1-2 Switch, we know it ain't happening in the Direct.
everything we know about it says it's more game than blue ocean

The Mario and Prime combo in June is just too big to happen
probably. Prime HD was me painting myself into a corner a bit. might be better in July

and I think that when they are showing Prime 1 they are showing Prime 4 (please don't anyone bring back the SSHD
skyward sword hd is exactly what I was going for, actually

they know they need to show it with Prime 1.
I strongly disagree.

They should port more games like the Tellius saga for FE, and some other Gamecube and Wii games :d

0
You think that after all that time they will once again say: oh, we are not ready yet. Please stay tuned? I hardly believe it.
The game isn't coming until at least next holiday, if not longer. I don't think Prime HD exists, but they don't need to show Prime 4 alongside it.

You think that after all that time they will once again say: oh, we are not ready yet. Please stay tuned? I hardly believe it.
I mean, they did twice with TOTK, once with Age of Calamity and the second time with Skyward Sword HD. I think they've only done it once so far with MP4.
Then again, with SSHD they did it with the promise of more info in that year for TOTK.

Alright, to end January I've written out my Nintendo Direct predictions. I hope that people get a kick out of these, as I had a lot of fun writing them.

Obviously Nintendo isn’t going to have a direct next week and compete against the Fast X trailer reveal

It's a good thing Nintendo and Vin Diesel talked to each other beforehand to make sure that the Fast X trailer and Nintendo Direct don't overlap.

September 2020 - Aonuma: you have to wait a little bit longer. AOC announced. But this was just because of AOC announcement, they would never announced anything TotK related in full covid mode.
February 2021 - you will see it later this year. Here is SS HD.

Prime 4 - restarted at January 2019
E3 2021 - we are working hard on Prime 4. Here is Dread.
And to this day, that's a 19 months from the last update. More than a year and a half, that's a damn way longer than TotK next showing from AOC or SSHD.

The timeframe is way longer than it was with TotK, if they are once again showing nothing but Prime 1 then it will raise a huge eyebrows. And it's not like they have nothing to show, the game has been restarted over 4 years ago.

Nintendo

You forgot the Nintendo Switch fingersnaps
