Can team January be dying if they were never truly alive to begin with?
On the contrary, my friend:

Aren't directs usually announced one day before? I don't think it's happening this week, but it feels premature to rule this week out today.

#TeamJanuaryStaysWinning

For belief in the new year, and belief that Nintendo will actually one day give us what we ask for when we ask for it. To be marketed commercials for niche games that less than a dozen people ask for immediately after the holiday shopping season.

Godspeed, rebels. Hold fast, hold faith, whether January 40th or January 201st. The promised January Direct is nigh upon us, always

We can't 100% rule out this week yet, no. If it's announced it'll almost certainly be either tomorrow morning or Wednesday morning, barring something weird like a Mini or anything more unusual.

It's been an honor, Team January.
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles, it's a very, very
Mad world, mad world

Yall I'm having so much fun and I don't even care when the Direct comes out 😂

This community is hype incarnate! We are the train! The real direct is the posts we shit along the way!

who really lost? the people who spent january posting in the thread thinking it could happen at any moment, or the people posting in the thread who were certain it wasn't for six weeks?

The answer is nobody. Nobody lost. We're all on the same team when we get right down to it, I made a whole damn ST themed around that. 👍

It's dangerous to go alone! Take this hopium!
I wouldn't call it Hopium. It's more about the fact that both the February direct and September direct last year were announced a day before. I don't personally think it's gonna happen this week, in fact I can't shake the feeling we're not getting a direct at all, but if it does happen this week than it'll be announced tomorrow, at least based on past precedents.

us not getting a direct at all would truly revive direct speculation and I personally would love to see it

drop an advance wars tweet, have some sort of trailer drop and treehouse for zelda in march or april, announce a mario game for june and badda bing badda boom there's your release schedule

Even tho I can see this happening, I personally do not want it. Waking up each day expecting a direct isn't very fun for me, so the years where Nintendo decides randomly to just buck tradition for the hell of it are my least favorite. Plus I just want Zelda news. I've waited too long for a blowout for this game. I can totally see them waiting till March or April, in typical "why?" Nintendo fashion, but man I do not want to wait till then for more info.

I‘m surprised by how much influence 3D World has on the theme park, the movie, even stuff like MM2, while Odyssey has only little representation in other Nintendo products. In 2017, they acted like the 3D Land/World era has ended, but that style often came back. I don’t mind since 3D World fits the modern Super Mario identity better

Made a bot that will post any updates to Silksong's metadata on the US eShop as soon as it happens

I think people are too harsh on the Bakugan Direct. It was in the middle of Covid and Wayforward probably had their plans all fucked up and Nintendo was probably just doing their development partner a favor by putting together a presentation to show off their game.

I mean like... Directs are pretty cool though... I like just watching 40 minutes of exciting announcements and making an event out of it. Somebody said this before but I'll go further, the reason all of this speculation is so fun is because we're all excited for the end result, a Direct, if we had the speculation, but not the big event, just smaller, unpredictable announcements every week for a few months, what would even be the point, there's nothing to speculate there, they just do everything they need to at the last possible minute because they can.

There's this weird longing for Summer 2020, which was far more frustrating than anything, multiple weeks where we'd all get our hopes up to finally see what was in store for Nintendo's 2020, only to be disappointed by nothing but partner showcases until they finally announced the Mario stuff. There was no excitement in any of that, and a similar situation where "Nintendo can't reveal anything until Zelda is out" would be excruciating.

But let's be real, Nintendo knows General Directs work, and really only does otherwise when they can't do one, Summer 2020?... Do I even have to say it, but Summer 2022 is far more telling of this, Nintendo did not have a June Direct because they had nothing left that was Direct worthy for the year, and would've had to gimp the following Direct if they wanted to make one. There was speculation yes, but was it fun? Was it exciting to be a Nintendo fan in that time? I'd say no, but I came to accept this, and went about only really awaiting the next wave of Mario Kart DLC, which instead of being revealed alongside a bevy of other updates and trailers in a Direct (or even a Mini) wasn't even teased until the very end of July.

Fami's cool but I'm a Nintendo fan before a Famiboards fan (I mean, why the hell would this place even exist if the passion wasn't there), and while I have personal reasons to prefer if the Direct was any week other than next week (WHICH BY THE WAY, WOULD BE THE 8TH BECAUSE THAT IS THE WEDNESDAY, WHEN THEY ALWAYS DO THE EARLY YEAR GENERAL DIRECTS, NOT THE 9TH) I'm not gonna say Nintendo is doomed because things lined up similarly to last year and some journalist wasn't getting harassed for hints and teases in the weeks prior.

Anytime something gets announced outside of a Direct:

Famiboards: "Why wasn't this in the Direct?!"
It's the conditioning caused by the Wii U gen, where content was so scarce that EVERYTHING needed to be used to fill in the Directs. Like, remember when Nintendo had to make a relatively big deal about Lost Reavers (because what else was there to hype)?

I‘m surprised by how much influence 3D World has on the theme park, the movie, even stuff like MM2, while Odyssey has only little representation in other Nintendo products. Yeah, I think that's exactly why they did that. Same with Retro's DKC style for Donkey Kong. Though it's funny to me because it's technically the Sprixie Kingdom in 3D World, but has been repurposed as the Mushroom Kingdom.

Odyssey is a weird mismatch of styles (which I love! - wish it went harder with it), but doesn't have a solid foundation for world building in a movie/park sense. It almost feels like a multiverse project.

I'm still peeved it's underutilized in Mario spinoffs considering how bland the environments have been. Even the 3D world style is ignored somewhat.

As one huge Last of Us fan to another, I hope you get that print.

I'm planning to get some Last of Us artwork for the game room when we move into the next house, and this is gorgeous. Haven't look at the price though. Almost scared to. I was thinking I wanted something featuring Joel and Ellie, or maybe the final shot of Last of Us part 2. But damn that encompasses Last of Us so well.

Also, might want to make the show a free time priority. It's absolutely amazing. And it will probably make you fall in love with that print even more, for better or worse (for your wallet).
The print I posted there goes for around $1,000+ range these days.

God, I remember the hype around that Bakugan stream and people thinking it was a Metroid game about to be announced……
Until Nintendo literally tempered expectations by saying that it wasn't one of their own IPs I was absolutely convinced that WayForward was developing a new Wario Land game. Still waiting on that front...

oh yeah, the Metroid talk. Remember how people talk about Metroid because of the end of Origami King reveal trailer?
Metroid fans have to be the most desperate Nintendo fans when it comes to trying to decipher hints and meaning in things where it isn't there.

Remember when people thought this was a tease that Metroid would be shown at The Game Awards a few years back?:

Because Reggie was wearing a Metroid t-shirt and there was something in the background that said "she."

Obviously celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck was part of the tease too.

Isn't it also because theme parks begun development/brainstorming when 3D World was the newest Mario game? But yeah, I agree. The Movie is inspired by theme park, which is inspired by 3D World. Also the release of 3D World + Bowser's Fury was only month apart from Super Nintendo World. It's definitely for the better, 3D World is more vibrant.

3D World in general had a great comeback. For me personally as well; I found it boring when it released, liked it more and more and the Switch port, together with Bowsers Fury, made it a near perfect game for me. I wonder if they keep its aesthetics, the wide range of power ups etc for the next titles. With the free camera movement and open design of Bowsers Fury of course.

The fact that Spawn Wave hints at the week of February 8/9 makes me feel that’s gonna be the week. He’s often right with his “If I gotta guess, I’d say…”. It’s probably based on Nate or other insiders but he was often right with these hints.

God, I remember the hype around that Bakugan stream and people thinking it was a Metroid game about to be announced……
That reveal might be the biggest insult by a major gaming company in the past decade. I literally screamed "FUCK YOU" at my screen. I knew they said it wasn't going to be Metroid but the hype they created made me think they were just going to surprise us with it anyway. Absolutely unacceptable to do this to us. Once they knew Metroid was expected, they should've cancelled the announcement.

It was all worth it for that copypasta honestly

Honestly the funniest thing about it was that there was both a first-party Wayforward developed game (Advance Wars) and a 2D Metroid in development at the time

I don't think the movie or the theme park would ever have been based on Odyssey, no matter the timing. The theme park and the movie were always going to be based on Mushroom Kingdom, since that's simply the defining setting of the Mario universe. Odyssey, which is a deliberate break from that setting, was never gonna be the blueprint for Mario stuff outside of its own thing.

Having a theme park based on New Donk City would have been silly, since New Donk City is specifically an Odyssey thing. Mushroom Kingdom on the other will forever be Mario's home.
