just to be clear this is a joke, not a dig

Am I the only one who’d only like a new musou game when new hardware is available? I know it’s not always the Switch‘s fault, but some more horsepower could go a long way with whatever KT is planning next
Unless we're talking next-gen exclusives (which I doubt, because I don't see Switch being left out entirely another few years), I don't think it'll make much difference.

New BS 4Chan Direct Leak everybody!

Not the worst BS 4Chan Leak I've seen tbh, and would be IMO a banger Direct.

February 8th Direct

  • Metroid Prime Remastered, launching in August
  • Mario Kart wave 4 showing
  • Porro, an isometric / top down puzzle story game coming this year, named after the main character of the game
  • Xenoblade Warriors, features characters from all games including X and Torna, will have it's own original story, no launch date
  • Final Fantasy XIII "deluxe" port, will probably be full priced and includes sequel games
  • Genshin Impact release window trailer for Summer
  • Gameboy / Gameboy Color for Nintendo Switch online
  • Port of Life is Strange 2, pretty straightforward..
  • Pikmin 4 trailer, still no release date
  • Trailer for Final Fantasy 1-6 pixel remasters with release date for April 7th
  • Advance Wars 1+2 release date set for March 10th
  • Cloud version of Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3.. this is supposed to be a big surprise however they don't have a release window
  • Dark Souls 2 port coming in the fall, not a cloud version
  • Release window trailer for two Switch spinoff Tomb Raider games, both coming in the fall
  • Xenoblade 3 DLC Wave 4 Trailer
  • Quick look at a bunch of games coming, mostly already what's been shown but also includes Minecraft Legends, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Outer Wilds, Metal Slug Tactics and Octopath 2
  • Another trailer for Bayo Origins
  • Show closes with the story trailer for Zelda which is still launching in May.
Honestly enough of this would be an aggravating sigh of "Finally" that I probably would write it off as a decent B- direct that just got so much cleared air just so I can start clear out backlog and not care a great deal minus Advance Wars, Bayo and Zelda.

I'd likely say Porro sounds cute and never pick it up.

Yep.

I mean, it wasn't done in-house by FromSoft, of course, but yeah, it happened. It was released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and I recall more than a few "Switch confirmed weaker than OG Xbox" jokes back when it was announced that it wasn't coming to Switch.

Still salty that it missed Switch, but FromSoft/Devolver still have a chance to make it happen and rectify this mistake-

Wait, how long did Dark Souls come out before MWC? Is it possible they tried it on Switch but canned it early based on DS1 sales?

If so I'll be extra pissed because I bought the damn game physically and the Solaire amiibo. It's still in box too, dammit!

Hey y’all.

Remember Nintendo’s original online plans?

How NES games were going to be like free for 30 days only? And they were considering maybe adding Super NES?
Then it was made free for another year cause they really didn’t have answers and whatnot?

Fun times
It truly boggles the mind no matter how atrocious Nintendo's online offerings are currently, they still had a plan in mind that was somehow worse. Who even is in charge of their online? It feels like they all just throw darts at a wall to make their decisions and half of them fly out the window into the dumpster below. There's absolutely no cohesion.

Talking about Donkey Kong, I've been playing Tropical Freeze again recently.

Man, imagine if Retro just worked on a third DKC game for the Switch instead of whatever new thing they were trying to do. Tropical Freeze is just perfect.

i wish metroid prime 4 with bandai namco didn't fall through, i'd love for Retro to be working on something else. Tropical Freeze is way better than any of the prime games

Retro DK>Metroid Prime might be controversial but I completely agree lol

I mean, I mentioned I had no knowledge of a Direct for this month back at the start of the month.
There's no end to my admiration of your resilience, since you're still hanging around here (great to have you here Nate, don't get me wrong :D)

They need to have a 3D donkey Kong open/ semi open world game In the works. The possibilities are endless. You could have all the different enemy types from snowmads, kremlins and tikis all in one giant world! The world and levels from past series would make for an amazing world.

The sales curve of Pokemon S/V compared to Sw/Sh (in Japan at least) is just so funny to me for some reason

I don't understand what's going on with From. Everyone here seems to blame Namco for lack of DS but yes, Metal Wolf is also not on Switch despite the fact Devolver pushes real hard to make every game they have on Switch. I blame From. Dark Souls sold really well on Switch (IIRC benji said Switch sales beat PS4) no reason for DS2 or MWC not to be on Switch as well.

Also DS1 is never a part of general Namco sales, it goes on sale separately from them, and only for 50%. Makes me think Namco is nothing more than a publisher for it.

I think the common thread between all the third party Switch games with weirdly high prices after many years is Nintendo distribution. Diablo 3 Skyrim Wolfenstein etc

That makes sense, DS1 was one of rare third party releases that received its own amiibo. Could be a similar deal to DQ Builders 2. Nintendo published title also released on other platforms.

Still they don't need Nintendo for a DS2 port. First game sold well, just do the same for 2.

I do hope we get a new IP from Monolith Soft. I don’t believe those girl with the dragon images is related to a new IP, but I hope we get something different from them.

So is ToTK the longest game Nintendo ever had in full production? If the full production begun in summer 2017 or even late 2017 or later that still puts it over 5 years. Can't really think of any title that Nintendo had in full production for that long, remember reading that development of New Horizons begun after New Leaf released but that was obviously not full production.

What about a spin off series for xenoblade? What do you think? Character action game would work in my opinion.
Well, that'd be one surefire way for me to actually like a Xenoblade game's combat!

But seriously, it can't be reiterated enough how much I hope Armored Core is the beginning of a big mecha action game surge.

Square would finally put FFXIII on Switch the year after I buy an Xbox so I can play it on a modern console.

You mean to tell me that insiders are actually are giving us solid info, but yet we’re all ignoring it because it just means there’s no Direct this month??

Blasphemy! I eagerly await next week’s Nintendo Switch Presentation 2023

With Monolith Soft and the action game, the LinkedIn profile pointed to it being a Switch game, so it's cross gen at least. There's an outside chance it's a reference to Zelda, but given Zelda was publicly announced at the time this person's LinkedIn profile was updated they wouldn't necessarily need to keep the name of the game they're working on at Monolith Soft a secret. I guess one thing to look out for would be to see if this person turns up in the Tears of the Kingdom credits.

Personally I've felt it's likely Monolith Soft have something non-Zelda and non-Xenoblade in the works, given their size. I know that some people thought that, with the first whisperings of an action game at Monolith Soft stemming from 2017, it's been too long for anything concrete to have come of it; but we can very clearly point to multiple protracted projects on Switch (Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, Pikmin 4, even Switch Sports). So I'm not sure that so much time passing since that initial hiring call and concept art is any indication of a project being cancelled (though perhaps whatever emerges is very different to the art that was used for the hiring call).

I look forward to whatever comes of this. Kind of exciting that there may be another game coming that’s not xenoblade or Zelda.

I don't think so; iirc it's for a staff member who's been working on an action game at Monolith Soft since early 2021. That doesn't necessarily mean the game started development then.
I’ll see if I can find anything too. I thought Nate commented on something from Monolith too, but I could be wrong. I have to look

Was this supposed to be solid info? All he said was that he had no knowledge of a Direct. I feel like I'm repeating myself, here.

Yeah, I think I remember Nate suggesting Monolith Soft were on more than just Zelda and Xenoblade. Certainly, with XBC 3 and Zelda wrapping up major development in 2022 both main production groups at Monolith Soft will have a lot more staff available. If there's a third project - this action game - then perhaps people moved over to that.

The game EPD Tokyo started working on after Odyssey (if they didn't cancel it).

Crazy I heard the game was bad from the internet…
Sword and Shield had a lot more negative fan reaction before launch that I don't want to Re-litigate here. Utimately while the game sold well (it's Pokemon) and reviewed well enough, the fan consensus once the dust settled was that Sw/Sh was one of the weaker games in the franchise. This opinion was based upon the games own merits specifically how poorly paced the back half of the game was and how weak the story ultimately was despite having lots of potential.

Scarlet and Violet had a lot more positive fan reaction before launch. The game has sold well (it's Pokemon) and while it's reviewed worse then Sw/Sh, the fan consensus as the dust is settling has been extremely positive and that S/V is one of the best games in the series. Again this is mostly based upon the games own merits with particularly how strong the story and characters writing is despite the games severe technical issues.

Yes, some fans prefer Sw/Sh to S/V, some fans loved both, and some fans think both games suck. The much stronger word of mouth for S/V is why it's having much stronger legs then Sw/Sh.

Bookmarked these comments from a while back
Monolith is not assisting on a FE game. They are busy with XBC3 & numerous other projects.
NateDrake said:
Both. They'll remain active on XBC and providing assistance on Zelda; but also have something new. [link]
He also claimed XC3 was originally a holiday 21 release, which could have had cascading effects on the action game
It was supposed to release this time this year. Original window of announcement was early 2021 -- around January/February, and then launch late Nov/early Dec 2021. Given the western focus of TGA... I think Nintendo holds XBC3 for the first Direct of 2022... if they opt to give it a similar marketing lead as XBC2.

Wait, how long did Dark Souls come out before MWC? Is it possible they tried it on Switch but canned it early based on DS1 sales?
Dark Souls Remastered was released on Switch in October, 2018 whereas Metal Wolf Chaos XD was released almost a year later, in August, 2019. However, by the time DSR was released Metal Wolf Chaos XD had already been announced as not coming to Switch, so... yeah.

Honestly, it seems to me that FromSoftware has the same "Yeah, that's very impressive, but our audience is elsewhere" attitude that a lot of other companies displayed towards the Switch. Unlike many of those other companies, however, their sales didn't start plummeting on the other systems, so they never felt the urge to change their mind.

This depends on when you think Metroid Prime 4 started full development at Bandai Namco and when it started full development at Retro Studios.

If Prime 4 started full development at Bamco at the beginning of 2017 and full development at Retro started at the beginning of 2019, then the game has already had six full years in development and is almost surely at least 18 months from release.

How many pages will this thread get when Direct is finally announced? $5 US eShop giftcard giveaway.

Let's have a little fun. Let's try to guess how many pages will this thread get when Nintendo Direct is finally announced (the moment the thread will close to be precise, so no new posts will be there).

This is something that every one of us can effect and it's not as boring as "Team January/Feb."

What are the rules?

You have to quote this post (so I can find you guess easily) and type the exact number you think the final thread page count will be.
You can send your guess until Monday, January 16th 3pm UTC. So that the final number cannot be guessed so easily (if we will get the last week January Direct).

The person who will quess the exact number or the nearest one will get the giftcard. If more people guess the exact number (it could happen lol) than one of these will be selected by random selection.

And you can edit your number until the end date. - January 16th 3pm UTC.

Could we possibly see another marvel collaboration with Nintendo, similar to marvel ultimate alliance 3?

I mean, Disney is very happy to license out Star Wars and Marvel and Avatar right now, but I don't know which property Nintendo would license that they would be interested in to the point of having one of their studios working on that license instead of one of their IPs.

It would absolutely have to be like Ultimate Alliance 3 where Disney wanted one of their IPs on a handheld system and Nintendo was interested in handling the publishing duties and handling a third-party studio that they hire to make the game.
