My extremely lukewarm and non-confrontation take is that I think I've decided I like them about equally. Both have their pros and cons and things they do better than the other, but on balance I think they pretty much match up for me
My honest take is that I prefer 2, but only slightly. The first is still a masterpiece in my eyes, and I also believe it does things better than two in some aspects.

I think people need to calm down a little. Let's discuss something that unifies the community like Paper Mario games, Fire Emblem characters in Smash Bros, the greatness of Skyward Sword, and paying $60 for Wii U ports.

Ok. Which one of those games you mentioned are first party and which ones are second party Nintendo games?

Wow, Apex Legends seems to actually run pretty well now. Snowrunner looks amazing as well. Now only if companies could stop rushing these out the door and actually release them in a good state to begin with....

For very personal reasons I was kinda in the right mindset to be blown away by the first one, like the conditions were perfect for it to just hit me. And I prefer the characters, lore, and overall world and story BUT, I cannot deny how much better the actual environments and music are in 2, and environments and music are a big, big deal to me in games. Plus the big reveal at the end is a huge treat for me, being a fan of the first game. So I think they kinda even out for me, too? I love the first game, but 2's highs are friggin high.
And one of 2's highs is Mitsuda, soooo ❤️

Distinct lack of modern day Pokemon on this list.

Mario Kart 64 holds up, guys. It’s wonderful. I played a few hours today with my sister, and it took us right back to our childhood. Then tonight I played some online with a good friend of mine, and had a great time then too! The online play worked really well (we live in the same state, so I donno if that helps), although the lack of voice chat is still a big issue. Weird that I have to call him on the phone and do speakerphone for online games. But that’s not a Mario Kart problem!

Mario Kart 64 is tons of fun is what I’m trying to say.

My hot take is that Xenoblade X is better than Xenoblade 1, and Xenoblade 2 beats both of them.

I still quite like and really respect Xenoblade 1 I swear; its the reason I got into Xeno

While I don't agree that it's better than 1, I will admit X is absolutely phenomenal. If 1's story and setting didn't enthrall me so much I'd probably but X above it purely for the environments and the goddamn Skells.

I can borrow a friends Wii U if I really wanted to play it on that, but I want that portability XD

Plus, I'm fearful of playing on Wii U then it getting announced on Switch right after.
Actually yeah, I understand. Same thing happened with me and the Wii version of Twilight Princess, pretty soon before Twilight Princess HD was announced. 😅

Never understood the hate for Arlo, aside from his Origami King comment towards the devs, he always seems fair with the games he reviews.
I admire his commitment to the puppet bit. He appeared on a episode of cinemassacres rental reviews and he was still a puppet despite being an in person thing with another human.

As much as I love 2's OST, and it IS really fantastic, I honestly like the first game's more. Something about it just hits me harder, and I like a lot of the area themes more (Eryth Sea Day, Satorl March Night, and Mechonis Field are like... three of my all-time RPG field themes ever). Plus the use of the main menu theme in THAT cutscene is perfection
The ost objectively is better in 2.
Disagree, as I just mentioned, for me personally at least

Me too. He's hosted a few in-person events near his town and it looks like even when fans meet him and take pictures with him they try to frame it so it's just the puppet, because there's apparently some Arlo fan code where they don't reveal the puppeteer's face or identity. It's wild as hell and I love it.

And wasn't there a theory at the old place that Arlo totally had an account and was active in this community under another name? Or was that just a joke?

I will admit, I prefer 1's main theme. That song playing over the visual of the Monado in the field is just perfect, and for some reason I really love the Gaur Plains theme in particular.

I think 2 might have better battle themes, on the whole, but I'm not really a battle theme guy. My favorite RPG tracks are usually the softer, more chill exploration tracks, like the ones I mentioned; I'm not a big fan of overly bombastic or "epic" music. And I think 1 just edges out 2 on that front.

But all that's to say... both are truly amazing soundtracks, and it's not like you can go wrong with either one!

I used to be a battle theme guy but I agree the exploration tracks win for me nowadays. And the themes for Uraya and Leftheria in particular make my heart feel full. Like, nothing's better than listening to the Urayan theme while taking a leisurely drive in the rain, and last time I was on a plane and was flying over a particularly dense overcast (undercast, at that point?) that looked like the cloud sea, and I strapped on my headphones and played the Leftherian music on loop and it was perfect.
God I love that soundtrack. 😅

without context I thought you guys were talking about deltarune chapters

damn

I told my girlfriend that it's canon Pokemon "don't pee or poop; they expel their bodily waste via their attack moves." (Something something TPCi, I just can't remember the exact source)

"So what, Mewtwo is only as powerful as he is because he has IBS?"

Or what about how much better Xenoblade 2 is than the first?

I think we can all agree on that :coffee:
Ah my favorite topic

I am a diehard XC2 > XC1 person. Not that XC1 is bad by any means but it's like a 9.5 to an 8-8.5 comparison for me.

I love both XB 1 and 2, but after replaying both of them earlier in the year, I definitely find myself preferring 2 by a good amount. The battle system was just more fun in 2 and I felt it balanced it's cast a bit better.

Music's fantastic in both though. I cri everytiem when Drifting Souls plays in 2

The World Revolving from chapter 1 totally wallops anything I've heard from chapter 2 because I haven't played chapter 2

This is unfair because there isn’t 1 game in this industry with a better orchestral OST than Xenoblade 2.
Right? What other game OST has featured Anúna?!

LOL OMG Now I see why yall don't like us. We should be talking about N64/Genesis and somehow we've drug the conversation back to Xenoblade again. 😂🤣😂🤣

I just played through Day 1 of Pikmin 3 and I can already tell I'm going to love this game. It feels good to play another Pikmin game after my only experience has been borrowing my cousin's copy of Pikmin 2 for the GameCube when we were like 9 years old haha

I do LOVE the Anuna tracks in 2. One of my favorite places in the game to go wander around or shop, just to listen to the music.

To get this back onto a more... current discussion, and keeping it with OSTs:

Good lord the SMTV soundtrack is already amazing and I've barely heard any of it yet. It definitely has the chance to be my OST of the year, and that's saying a lot this year.

SMTV would have to put in some work to beat NEO: TWEWY for me.

Not saying it isn't possible since what we've heard so far is excellent but NEO has one of my favorite soundtracks ever (I'm a sucker for lyrical songs in video games)

I have heard very little of the NEO OST, so I can't comment on that, but I have heard very good things about it from fans! I'm actually the opposite, lyrics in game tracks usually turn me off, especially if they're pop-y or ballads or sound like the kind of song you'd hear when the credits roll in a movie. I'm fine with choir "oohs" and "aahs" and vaguely latin-sounding chanting, but pop music just isn't my thing.

Jazz, funk, and metal work for me, though. Persona 5 has a ton of vocal tracks and it's one of my favorite OSTs of all time, so I guess it just depends on the musical style.

I posted this track so many times already but man when I first heard it I was blown just by how good it sounds.

Hey guys, thought you should know, left bumper button turns music off and off in Mario kart 64. So it’s not the sound glitching it’s you hitting the wrong button

positively delighted to learn of xenoblade's death

I knew Mario Kart 64 was working well when I used a triple mushroom boost on the final straight of the race only to be overtaken by Peach, who didn't have any boosts.
