Apparently the Windmill and Sunfloras moved at a much better framerate in the Japanese Trailer. Not checked it yet, but hopefully some of the roughness of the English trailer is a earlier build or something

I LOVE Farifarig. It looks much like a beta pokemon that got slashed but now put back in.

Takeaways:
  • I will still probably get this game
  • It looks ugly. Uglier than Sword and Shield imo and those games weren't lookers
  • Auto Battle looks braindead
  • Crafting TMs is lame
  • Really don't know if I like this weird "3 separate stories" thing they're trying to do or not
  • Raid battles are meh just like Sword and Shield

The technical performance of Game Freak games is getting to be inexcusable. It brings down the quality of the great pokemon and character designs to see them presented this poorly.

Yes, yes, we all know that TPC sucks and they should give more resources and time to actual game development but come on, let's be honest, Game Freak was NEVER an impressive studio in terms of graphics and performance, this can be seen right from the beginning with Red&Blue since at the time there were a lot of other better looking games on the OG Game Boy.

(Mind you, Gold&Silver was an improvement in that regard and the content in the past was much better which also makes me wish new entries had more time in the oven).
it's not even TPC. this is all on Game Freak. they set their own schedules
the mouse things look cute. the mario mushroom rock is weird

After seeing how Atelier Ryza 3 is looking (which seems to be the most open Atelier game yet), does anyone feel that a franchise that sells just a little part of what the Pokemon series do, is developed around the same time frame and yet still looks WAY better is fair?

So, everything that the GF DF yell at me whenever I criticize the games are lies?

Uh...aren't TMs "Technical Machines"? So the TM Machine is...the "Technical Machine Machine." Huh.

But yeah, that trailer was more of an overview - only one new Pokemon (that they focused on, that minimap thing feels like a fuck up), mostly going over things we know with a couple of new stuff here and there. I like the picnic mechanic! It feels like a meaningful evolution over the kinda weak camping mechanic from Sword and Shield. And the expanded customization for hair and facial features is a welcome addition.

The Japanese trailer does look a lot smoother. Btw whats up with that transition for starting a wild mon battle? Really weird to not at least implement pla's sending out mons seamlessly against other mons to battle, or at least come up with something better then the trainer and buddy Pokemon flinging themselves backwards in an awkward manner lol.

Craftable TMs is an awful idea. The only way it's acceptable is if TMs are unbreakable, so you only have to craft them one time. But I strongly suspect that won't be the case.
the TM Machine UI shown asks how many TMs you want crafted, so nope

Huh, well I think the game still looks good visually. Maybe my expectations are just that low?

Framerate at the Sunflora part was bad (but if the Japanese trailer was better maybe it's a build issue), the battle transition is terrible, and I wish they had taken the overworld mechanics from PLA even though I get why they wouldn't.

Otherwise, game looks good! Very excited for this

I'll take TM Machine if whenever I decide I want a certain move on a pokemon I can get the associated TM right away.

As long as the mats required for crafting any one TM are farmable regardless of time of day, weather, rare spawns, swarms or other uncontrollable variables, it'll be a step up from having to rely on randomly rotating vendor stock like in Sword & Shield. After how every generation since reintroducing one-time TMs by the way of TRs has made teaching moves worse, even a marginal improvement is a reversal of the trendline.

Anything I say about that trailer will just be negative, so I won't comment on it besides saying that I am disappointed we haven't seen the starter evos yet.

lol 3 minutes passed and you said fuck it ;)

(I agree)

It sounds like the most egregious stuff (Sunflora, windmill) looked much better in the Japanese trailer? So going to guess that the Japanese trailer was recorded using a newer, more optimised build.

Don't really have much else to say about the visuals - they're about what I expect from Game Freak. I don't really care to go combing footage for low-res textures or whatever that I won't give a second glance in the final game.

Anyway, the little overview was fun, if super hokey. Firagiraf looks cool and I do love the name.

TM crafting I'm reserving judgment on. I didn't much like the TM/TR split in SwSh, largely because Dynamax Raids were unbelievably dull. If it's not too onerous to craft TMs, and TRs are gone and merged back into TMs, I can live with that.

Tera raids seem a lot more snappy than Dynamax raids, so hopefully they're more enjoyable when it comes to farming them...

I'm cautiously hyped for these - I don't expect them to address my longstanding issues with the series but if I could get some enjoyment out of SwSh I'm sure this can't be worse.

So, pokemon just... sit still when approached?

I knew that the unique systems of Arceus weren't going to make it over (eg. ball throwing, as much as I wanted it), but I didn't expect this to be so... lifeless?

I’m sure next mainline will be the best of both worlds, I’m happy they’re experimenting!

I’m so mad that those weird car engines are probably pokémon

“you can just tell how much fun they’re having!”

haunting creature slaps ball away in anger

Yeah but, to be fair, The TM Machine is technically a Techical Machine Machine.
I said the same thing when it came on - I said "technical machine machine, oh nooo"

But alas it is aptly named

god that crystallized egg really hates that little gremlin

Anyone got a link to the japanese trailer? Typing Japanese Pokemon trailer into YouTube does nothing for me haha

Also happy that we finally have Subway in a Pokemon game
