The commonwealth + US + territories that have been under British control in her lifetime (India, Pakistan, Hong Kong) is ~3+ billion people. The number of people who have name recognition of "Queen Elizabeth II" is likely higher than any other (recently) living person.

Now that she'd dead, she's not even in the top ten, but up until about an hour ago, she was number 1.

The Queen has been a notable figure going all the way back to WW2. She has been the (figurative) leader of one of the most powerful nations in the world for 70 years. Her death is a big deal and is going to be a worldwide event that will last for quite a while.

I'm not saying that this event will force Nintendo to change any of their plans in the near future, but the news today is one of the most notable moments of the 21 century so far.

The question: will Nintendo publicly announce refraining from news for the coming weeks on their social media, or will things just be silently postponed?

it won't be delayed, it'll be cancelled. everything they need to get out for TGS they'll do via Twitter or, if contractually obligated, a Partner Showcase. then they'll put together a new Direct with whatever is left

Honestly, Australia and Canada will probably become republics in the near future, could see the UK deciding to abolish the monarchy (esp with the media and conservative dislike of Charles and his environmental concerns etc...)
