Congratulations to all. I encourage you to take the week off. See your families, relax, get some work done, and regroup for the Monday speculation rush. I hope to see you all then. In the meantime, does anyone know how to include a non-dll library in a C# project?
I would ask that we all ignore this last paragraph and never let the hype die!

For real though folks this was a win

in 24 hours before the announcement we got on the case (shout-out to @LukasManak22 for first discovering the main hint!) and actually made waves across the community to expect something today

sure the announcement itself wasn't what we hoped but hey I had fun

I believe that this special edition puts the final nail in the 2022 coffin. Releasing a special edition of a console about to become obsolete woul be a dick move even for Nintendo.

While I'm Team Q1 2023, Nintendo has done this a TON in the past. I remember them releasing special editions of 3ds systems using the older models before launching the new one... Or even AFTER the new one launched.

The console isn’t becoming obsolete dude

I'm not here to have a battle of semantic, "dude". If the rumored hardware is anything like what is being rumored, we're looking at a full generational leap in terms of computing power and exclusive games. Feel free to believe otherwise, but that new console makes whatever TX1-based hardware obsolete in my view.

$400-500 is PS5/XSX territory

yall actually thinking the new Switch will compete with those two on a technical level? Or is that not the point of the new Switch? 🤔
Not the point. It’s gonna be a premium, enthusiast-focused model. It’s going to be priced that way.

My stance on Switch Pro continues to be "I'll believe it when I see it", lmao. Still I hope this is a good omen either for new hardware in the future or a Splatoon trailer/testfire soon

don't know if you guys noticed but the 3 in the logo has scratches on it, because of the chaos theme the game has
Cool find! Love those little things!

So true! It's really nice to have shared excitement, just tapping into crazy energy once in a while. You all are a blast! So glad I got back into this!

I feel like if this were happening we'd have heard about sourcing of the smaller OLED panel, right?

Have we heard anything about them sourcing bigger OLED panels? Or are we assuming they're gonna use the same screen on the current OLED for Drake?

I'd find it hard to believe that they'd use the same screen to sell a model that can do 4K, mostly because they have a chance to also use DLSS in portable mode to get locked 1080p while handheld, and because they'd probably want it to look different enough from the previous models consumers don't get confused.

Remember that pretty much every single 3DS revision changed the screen size specifically because of this, and "bigger screen" was in fact one of the bullet points in the box.

Not saying it's a sign of Drake/Lite OLED happening or not, mind you, for all we know Nintendo sourced screens without us knowing. In fact iirc us learning about them sourcing screens in the past was more of an oddity than anything.

Also as a reminder: the Splatoon tournament is still taking next week off. If the announcement of this special edition console + controller isn’t big enough news to take THIS week off, imagine the magnitude of the news they have for us next week.
Ah, yes, of course! The Splatoon Direct! /jk

My only real negative to this announcement is what has been said about price. They wouldn't announce this at $10 over OLED MSRP just to go drop the OLED $50, which means we're probably seeing a $400 Drake as some have similarly said

The world is not a nice straight line where we stand behind each other. There’s all kinds of zig zags. They don’t need to wait until after Splatoon 3 releases. This OLED will be limited quantity and the fans will buy it up.
Maybe, though I think any splatoon diehards overlap significantly with the audience for an upgraded model. Maybe Nintendo wants to take advantage of this though to line their pockets.

Reminds me of Persona special 3DS XL releasing just months before New 3DS launch. The bad thing was New 3DS wasn't rumored and I bought the Persona one. It's still in its box sealed.

I had always assumed it was going to be using the same screen size, though I suppose the precedent of the New 3DS line doesn't support that.

Well in any case, I guess I'll find out eventually

If nothing else gets announced from Nintendo this week I'm going all in on my Treehouse Live Day theory for next week btw

expecting this thing to be 400 dollars is an even riskier bet than it existing at all

Damn you guys almost made me miss the Ragnarok date.

If Drake is really happening this year, wouldn't it make sense to still announce it in July?

Even if it Drake is November, September announcement to November launch seems like a pretty quick turnaround. Even for Nintendo.
I'd imagine that the quick turnaround is simply to make up for potential lost sales of the OLED and V2. When the shiny new toy is around the corner, makes sense to wait when it's only a couple weeks away, even if it will be nigh impossible to get

The thing about being on #TeamBelieve is that the prospect of being right is so much more enticing than the potential hurt of being wrong. It's definitely a risk I am willing to take.
The naysayers need to be right everytime, but #TeamBelieve just needs to be right once for immense vindication

$400+ I should have said

and yeah the price makes total sense with what we know about it now being an enthusiast model. I suppose I just expected the OLED to slide down and take the spot of the "standard" Switch

It's dang impressive that the Switch has held its MSRP as long as it has, and they can commit to that for at least another year. Lite helped I guess.

I can now easily predict when new Splatoon 3 trailer will drop, because Splatoon JP never lies. This is the pattern, the best one. Not like sales pattern and these other shits, this is actually working.

I believe this is the start bullet for a trail of Splatoon 3 marketing up until release, maybe with 1 thing happening every 2 weeks, or sometimes every week - a dedicated Direct, the testfire, some trailers and lab reports.

Isn't announcing a beefed up model the week after you announce a special edition OLED kind of shooting yourself in the foot for that OLED?
Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot. I don't know how much you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but the Switch and Splatoon are huge parts of it.

yall call me out for making all the threads, and then it's been 12 minutes and no one bothers making a thread for splatoon oled switch...

edit: 22 minutes...
I appreciate ur threads.. 🥺👍🏽

Anyways this was a wild ride to follow! I like the ombre they gave the joycons, opens up for way more combinations if new colors follow!

Still looking forward to the stronger Switch, I haven't given up hope yet!!

I think I heard DLSS in portable mode was resource (battery) heavy, and either way 1080 screen is also resource heavy for the size of the switch.
Also 3DS revisions didn't have that many peripherals that needed backwards compatibility (joycons & third party).

But drake using the same OLED panels is not something that would be too weird imo, especially if we already heard drake might use the same casing/size.

It should mantain a 720p screen, the difference in such a small screen for games between 720p and 1080p arent big enough to justify less battery life and performance. Only a 1440p screen would start making sense but that would be too expensive and probably most games wouldnt even run at 1440p

Most marketing will not start until the week after XC3 launch imo

I'm assuming the joycon rail would remain the same size, even if they made the unit bigger, really.

If I didn’t already have an OLED, I would definitely pick this Splatoon one up, it looks really cool.

The only other hardware I’m expecting to be announced this year is a Pokemon Switch Lite special edition, or Maybe they’ll go big for S/V and do an OLED as well.

I wonder if Pokémon SV will get a special edition now for the OLED or another Lite (Let’s Go had a base model one, SwSh and BDSP had Lite models)

Can somebody with more time than me make some sort of collection of all the posts from this morning that reference muncle, and the Spltoon 3 OLED Model announcement before it happened?

This feels like a pretty historical Fami event and should go in the logs for Drake pre-release history imo.

A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once. It seems to me most strange that men should fear, seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come.
