Putting my thinking cap on. Wouldn't there have been a datamine of OLED screen + Switch Lite dimensions in a Switch update? I know we got one for OLED but I reckon there should be something there for Lite?

So my thinking is, if there is new hardware(not believing this until I see it), then it would be something brand new?

It's actually been a huge problem for the Lite that it has no font scaling. All of the displays are the same resolution and are ostensibly treated the same.

My advice is to save the freaking out for when this one disappears too.

Did NintendoJPOfficial have an upload of the Lite trailer? NoA and NoE only made their uploads of that private after the OLED announcement, so it might just be NoA jumping the gun this time while the others are waiting as before.

Not that I'm advocating hype here.

One of the many reasons why expecting an OLED Lite is silly.

The other major one being they would need to source a brand new screen (5.5 inch OLED panel or so) which would very likely have leaked by now, since screen suppliers leak like crazy.

Something being discussed on reddit is the possibility that it's a music licensing issue.
This is a possibility because this is almost exactly one year after the trailer, so it could have been a one year licensing deal.
I still lean toward there being some kind of announcement but I do think this argument is possible.

Keep in mind that yes, NCL's upload of the Lite reveal trailer was eventually taken down too.

It's not as well documented on Wayback Machine as the US upload but it was still up in May 2021 and was no longer up the next time it was archived earlier this year.

Guess that answers your question @LiC

oh my god.

I just realized that the reason we heard so much smoke last year was specifically because of the OLED panels.

Since the new model is likely using the same part, we may not get anywhere near the same short-term smoke

I saw a couple of YouTube videos discuss a recent trademark for Donkey Kong and in it it mentioned “downloadable programs for portable and electronic consoles”

Yep, that's what I've been saying for a while now. I believe the Lite was reported on mainly because they needed to source smaller panels too. The other major Lite leak came from the shell being leaked (which nobody thought was real at the time), and for a Switch 4k it's unlikely the shell will be all that noticeably different from the existing ones.

That's the only real explanation I can offer as to why it hasn't been heavily rumored by a major publication like Bloomberg as being prepared for production this year, assuming it launches this year. It will very likely be reusing many of the same components.

That's very standard procedure for trademarking a property like that. You'd want to include it in as many goods and services classes you would reasonbly use it in to cover your bases. Of course it goes without saying that Donkey Kong will eventually star in a new game, but it's wise to not always treat trademark stuff as a smoking gun.

but if you don't want to do that, we could always talk about how Nintendo filed a new trademark (not a renewal) for Wario World in Australia here earlier this year!

That was part of the rationale in my post too. There should also be a datamine if it were to be a brand new model using the same OS. Perhaps if there is new hardware it's a brand new OS that people can't datamine yet, for obvious reasons

I wouldn't necessarily assume that. If they're launching an 8nm drake then it's probably quite a bit larger.
If an 8nm Drake wouldn't have fit then they likely would've requested a smaller chip, either by cutting stuff out or not going with 8nm. The Switch is already pushing it on size.

(Yes @Raccoon I said otherwise the other day but I've changed my mind)

Yeah, I'm recalling this manufacturing leak last year in May from an Asian peripheral company that mentioned the following:

The size of the console will be very similar to the original model,[...] The screen will be larger, up to 7 inches [...] A screen that will be OLED [...]
[...] replaces the current support to support it, somewhat flimsy, with a base that goes from side to side of the console and that will hold it more stable, similar to that found in some tablets such as the Surface Pro [...]
[...] the microSD card slot [...] is now located on the side of the back [...]
The new dock [...] will be a little wider at the rear, and will include two USB 3.0 ports [...] it will have an ethernet network port

If they reuse components, I doubt there's going to be anything particularly exciting to report. Maybe if the name of the new model is printed on the device.

Also... rereading the posts in that thread sure is a ride....

Yes, thanks! Although we still don't know if NCL did this before or after OLED, it seems likely they were all done at the same time.

The music license explanation is not super convincing, since it must cost pennies to license some random funky music (assuming they didn't produce/commission it themselves) compared to the songs used in the October reveal and the Super Bowl ad, which are still up. And I don't see why the licensing agreement would have to be a multiple of 12 months. However, I do think that the "anniversary private" thing is likely real, could just be down to SEO, so I would pin this on that before I would say it means an announcement is happening.

Tired: The Switch OLED model exists due to silicon shortages forcing a Drake delay
Wired: The Switch OLED model was created for the sole purpose of making the upcoming model unleakable

If they do show a pro in the next week do you think they show it with extended footage of BotW 2? Because right now there's no real game detailed to show it off with, like how they hyped the OLED with Metroid Dread. Would they show new BotW 2 footage (running on the pro) to excite people about the product?

Guess I’ll be hyping with you all!

I’m Shadow the hedgehog and I’ve come to make an announcement. The legend of Zelda breath of the wild 2 will release on Friday March 3 2023 that is all

I dunno where the Xenoblade preview rumors are coming from, but there's pretty much no question that they're coming very soon. Pretty much every Nintendo game has its preview embargo lifted 2-3 weeks ahead of time, and the game comes out in 3.5 weeks. July 15th is the absolute latest previews are gonna show up.
