Dunno, I beat Sword & Shield six times, three times each game.
listen, as a casual I am a vibes-based player
I get that jrpg poisoned gamers crave contrived plot points and absurdly high stakes, but to a vibes-based player like me "two rival schools reconcile to defeat a shared threat" has the makings of a great story with great vibes
See, I personally really liked the vibes in the start of Sword and Shield. Being a kid in a big regional competition reminded me of band competitions and auditions as a grade schooler, and I had hoped they would lean further into that vibe. Instead we ended up in a really crappy plot about saving the world from fucking Jeff Bezos during the Olympics.Pokémon has both insane stakes and incredibly unambiguous narratives recently. Just look at the whatever they attempted to do with Sword and Shield or even that poor fan fiction that was USUM.
Their best was BW, SM and to some degree Legends because the completely obvious plot twist in the true ending was very sick looking at least.
Yeah, I miss when legendaries were just chilling somewhere instead of being involved in some cross-dimensional scheme to end life and reality. They actually felt way more important when you had to explore a hidden optional dungeon instead of just appearing in front of you with hours of foreshadowing.
Pokémon is at its best when it's just a cozy adventure in an unkown world waiting for you to explore it.
Agreed. Ever since X and Y I don't even watch Pokémon trailers anymore because I don't want to know the Pokémon. I've seen all starters this time but I will do everything I can to not see the evolutions and most other Pokémon. Seeing a new Pokémon for the first time in game is a great feeling and having it evolve without you knowing what it's going to look like might be even better.Pokémon is at its best when it's just a cozy adventure in an unkown world waiting for you to explore it.
the post game fight in Legends is up there with the Red fight in GSC.There has never been anything as effective in Pokémon as climbing a mountain and getting your ass kicked by your character from the previous game.
Everytime something ominous happened and the grown ups told the player character to just worry about the Gym battles was so great. Would love for the world saving plots to disappear.

debate me

Yeah I can see that perspective as well. For me it was just less time spent with the side of Pokémon that I don't enjoy. That was my major complaint about SS story. You are not involved with it, you don’t see it happen, everyone wants you of it… and you still end up saving the world fighting against a Pokémon version of a doomsday device.
At least in Sun and Moon the world saving angle was secondary to the family theme from start to finish.
You say that but then you describe your preferred plot as basically being the plot of Xenoblade 3: Two rivallisten, as a casual I am a vibes-based player

for some reason in my head the shared threat is like, bureaucracy and/or budget cutsSeriously though, I have no problems with the potential plot you describe but it does sound anime as hell. If you wanted it like a ghibli movie, there wouldn't be a true enemy. Unless you meant a more general non-person threat, that'd be cool.
the evil team is going to harness the awesome power of the box legend to fulfill the ancient prophecy of shutting down the local rec centerfor some reason in my head the shared threat is like, bureaucracy and/or budget cuts
I guess from up on poppy hill got into my head too much lol

I am also born in Nov but early Nov so in my case it has always been gift me money (or gift cards) so I can buy it in one-two weeksMy birthday is november 23rd, so Pokémon on my birthday has always been a tradition for me. I'll be so excited to buy me a Pokémon game as a gift again instead of being like "uh, yeah, I guess I have to buy this..."
Curious now - what did you think of Sun and Moon? Those were my favorite Pokemon vibes since, uh, maybe ever.listen, as a casual I am a vibes-based player

I never played them...Curious now - what did you think of Sun and Moon? Those were my favorite Pokemon vibes since, uh, maybe ever.
If you ever get the chance, they got some good freaking vibes. Story's slow paced, especially at the beginning, but I think it executes a lot of its ideas well and Alola is a fun location to be in.I never played them...
Will this game have flying mechs?
;(Mega Lati@s will probably not be in the game.
Don't forget the Shellder on the Train Ticket machines. Got to love the Cloyster cardsSword and Shield had great England vibes. Literally the only time I've seen Costa Coffee or black public bins in a video game. Now that's representation!
18 hours to goSomeone give me a countdown, I’m excited for new Pokemon critters

wasn't also the first appearance of characters like Sonia? The first SwSh trailer after the reveal was actually pretty meaty. Revealed several new Pokemon, several areas (including our first look at the Wild Area), and the box legends. Granted, that was part of a full presentation and not a standalone, but I'm still expecting some pretty significant stuff here, especially since it could lead into a Treehouse segment if they're doing those this year. I think we'll at least get to see how the open world works
