new characters remind me of Detective Pikachu

I wonder if they're gonna consider an exp share toggle this time. With that said; looks amazing. Think i'm gonna pick female this time. Boy MC looks like a baby.

They say this is open world, which is obvious from the trailer, but they don't mention whether the battling and catching mechanics from Legends Arceus will be present in this game.

I hope it's not like the Sword/Shield expansions where it's open, but we still have to just run into a Pokemon and then battle it in a separate environment in order to catch it.

Screens show overworld battles

screenshots show that battling is like Legends

Haters would not stop going on and on about how terrible Sword and Shield would be.

They are now my favorite games in the series.

Meh

Knowing Japan, "Spain" is going to be 90% Barcelona and Madrid with the other 10% being bulls and flamenco or something

Hoping I'm wrong but the little bit of the map that was visible showed they turned Galicia and Asturias into a waterhole so I'm not hopeful

Very exciting news!

It's funny, I'm not typically one to remember dates / lengths of time between games but I was just thinking about the Pokemon TCG and how we probably only have about 1-4 more expansions of that before they are due to switch to the next generation of games, and yet I wasn't really thinking we'd actually see the next generation today. I hope that they are taking the time that they need, but nevertheless this is a welcome surprise!

Pokemon always seems to inspire a lot of toxicity in the fanbase. While the series may not always go the direction I wish it to, there has always been something to make me smile. With Pokemon Legends being a welcome surprise, I think we have a lot to look forward to.

Also, preemptively I'm going to put myself on Team Fuecoco but we'll have to see how final forms shake out. : )

I doubt it, despite the function already being built into SWSH.

Arceus works just fine with exp sharing. They just have to balance the game right.

If Scarlet and Violet are going to replace Sword and Shield for the online and general competitions, there will have to be EXP share on/off for EV training, unless the change to EVS and IVs in PLA is permanent, in which case the exp share is meaningless anyway.

Honestly seeing the evolution of Pokemon during the Switch era has been fascinating in hindsight. Most series have had their "BoTW" moments seemingly all at once - a really good example here is Kirby, where there's an apparent huge jump between Star Allies and Forgotten Land

Meanwhile Pokemon in the same timespan went through LG: PE, SwSh, SwSh DLCs, Legends Arceus, and now Scarlet and Violet. Each of those kept iterating on what seems to be the end goal of an open-world Pokemon game that we're finally getting with Gen 9. It's a really neat evolution that we've got to experience in sort of real time

EV training is way easier in Sword and Shield, you just buy vitamins.

Oh shit, what is this?

This is a great trailer for an alien invasion survival horror, DONT GO INTO THE LIGHT!!!!!!

Oh. It's Pokemon.

Wait, how is it pokemon? How long has it been since anyone in game freak slept?

I don't necessarily disagree, but that is a very charitable way of putting it

Wonder why they didn't pick bull as a fire starter since it's Spain. And it would be in line with the zodiac theme.

I wanted a Fire/Fairy minotaur starter for ages. Shame, but the fire croc could be cool. Coloring makes me think it might become Fire/Ground.

I hope they bring back Go Ichinose for the soundtrack. The music is one of the best parts of Arceus, it has that classic Pokemon feel that was lacking lately.

The music in the trailer is pretty whatever, and I'm sure it's in the game since the music they use in reveals always are. I do love the new main theme arrengement, though.

How stacked is this years Switch line up! Love the look of this and I hope the world is big and well thought out with lots of secrets to find and discover.

I wasn't expecting us to get Gen 9 this soon, but here we are. Hopefully it wasn't too rushed...

I'm liking the starters a lot, especially Fuecoco, but really not happy with the apparent shift in art style for the human characters.

Maybe it becomes a bull
I do hope it'll change theme as it evolves. I liked the idea of Galarian starters had themes that were related to the region in some way.
Because they don't want to reference a blood sport?
Maybe not as a starter but I do expect a bull pokémon in the games. We still haven't got a proper bull pokémon, despite getting two buffalo ones. Sure bullfighting is a disgusting tradition that needs to end but Toro Bravo is still Spain's symbolic animal.

It's kinda funny that Larvitar looks to be an easy to find Pokémon.
Well it was possible find Tyranitar in the wild in Black/White and it was not that rare. They have demoted Tyranitar to Aggron's level in that gen.

Lol

I think the DLC will probably be based on the Gibraltar area or Canary Islands, or something like that.
This is probably too much geopolitics, but I was wondering if they would do Galar region Pokémon in one area. But I don’t think they will want to touch that. I guess we will have to see what the region is and the areas because they could do lots of things in Iberia or the associated Islands that could be cool.

There are enough Spanish traditions to reference without referencing the one that involves killing live animals for sport in a stadium.

I was worried Pokemon designs might peak with Corviknight and Appletun, but then some absolute genius thought, "what if we made this duck look like it's wearing a hat?"

And the world is better for it 🥲

Holy shit, I didn't expect this in 2022 at all. And they even Arceus'd it where they could.

Gamefreak devs don't sleep, do they?

Wow, it looks better than LA and is coming in 2022? I guess now we why LA came out so soon after BDSP.

I'm curious about this one, will keep an eye out for more details.
