@Raccoon Regardless of whether this thread is locked tomorrow, thank you for making a great thread that once again contained the madness! You are a gentleman and a scholar.

okay, so the direct shoukd be announced in a little over either eight or nine hours

if I'm awake, I'll request the lock. if the thread stays open, I'm still asleep and request that one of you request it by reporting the thread
I've reported this thread 37 times now for Team February propaganda, and the mods refuse to do anything about it! 😤

yeah thanks everybody, in the end I feel like this thread really came into its own and was valuable

if the people end up wanting one for summer or fall I would definitely consider doing it

The Assault multiplayer gets pulled out almost any time there are certain segments of family around, and good times are had by all who indulge. That mode, while perhaps unrefined, still sees so much use.

I get the impression there is a sizeable chunk of the fanbase that appreciates what was done there, or at least what could be accomplished if the idea were built upon. It's actually kind of surprising that we haven't seen Nintendo build upon it thus far in search of the next big multi-player phenomenon.
One thing I’d love to see added on top would be a cooperative horde mode for both local and online play. Maybe look at Splatoon’s Salmon Run and Luigi’s Mansion Scarescraper for some ideas for shorter and longer sessions.

If Nintendo sticks with their trends, I think something in late May/June and late August would be good times.

Man this reveal trailer for 3D World is pretty bad. And 3D World is one of my favorite Switch games, so I should be biased in the other direction. No excitement whatsoever.

Nintendo kinda has taken a bad habit of revealing a game with a not so exciting trailer (outside the fact that the game was announced) and then later they'll release a second trailer that truly shows the hook of the game and THEN people get really excited.

We didn't even know about the "take over things by throwing your hat at it" mechanic from Odyssey until the second trailer.

If it isn’t too late to reconsider, I think this thread should remain open until right before it airs. The whole lead up of the actual thread will still be about speculation about what’s in it.

Either way, thanks for hosting the thread :)

in a vacuum I like this idea, but there will inevitably be threads made when it's announced and I don't think discussion should be split

At least the first Odyssey trailer was exciting. If I hadn't already bought and loved 3D World, I would have thought the game was super boring.

Yeah, there's a reason the second trailer felt like it came out of nowhere and got people hyped for a game most weren't feeling great about.

E3 2013 Direct wasn't great.

The 2014 one though. Oh man.

And the in-between segments by Robot Chicken!? With self-referential and self-deprecating humor? You knew that one was gonna be special.

Yo! This seems like it's going to be the best Direct of all time! 😳

Holy fuck Frontier made a coaster building game for Wii U and I'm just finding out. I have failed as a theme park tycoon fan.

I really enjoyed the E3 2013 direct...when it was over and I could watch it without it stuttering every 2 seconds.

I always remember directs 2014 of Nintendo beginning to understand what they had in their hands and how to use them when they had the games to stack them.

It was still a work In Progress as they had Zelda right dab in the middle and ended with a Star Fox tease lol. Plus Palutena ending was a bit funny when we we saw we smash would get as E3 reveals later on. They could’ve ended on PAC-Man that year but they thought the press was more worthy.

I can't decide what the new Mario game reveal at the Direct will be.

  • The Sequel to Super Mario Odyssey? - Another parallel to the 2017 comparisons, but ain't this year packed already?(that survey tho)
  • Brand new 2D Mario? - We haven't had a new one in a while, no offense to the Maker games.
  • Mario Kart Next - Some say MK8 Deluxe hasn't had enough time to itself yet, others think "1 Kart per system". IDK/C just say when.
  • Mario Musou - This would be chaotic. I kinda need it to happen, but some have said they don't know who would be making it so we'll see.
  • Dr. Mario Switch - I feel like this is a given. Will it be this year tho or another down the line? Arika probably.
  • Mario Party - Just had one, buuuuut DLC seems very possible.
  • Mario Sports - We just had one, but there could be DLC and also maybe some other developer is working on a different sport ⚾ This isn't actually the same thing as ⛳ or 🎾, believe it or not.
  • Fortune Street - Give me Sylvando and Pauline and I'd be into it.
  • Mario + Rabbids - this is the only one we know is a real thing lol, so it'll probably be what they show, unless... Is it being delayed?🤔
  • Port of an Old Mario Game - What, you think they won't?
  • Super Mario RPG Remake - People said they want a real Mario rpg game... this SNES game ain't ever coming to NSO apparently, so why not?
  • No More Mario games - Mario has transcended. Nintendo is done promoting and condoning Mario. They said he's our problem now.
I do have a question for @NateDrake and other "insiders" on here. Or inter-web sleuths.

Do you think Mario Golf Super Rush is getting additional DLC? or PAID DLC? On the back of the Mario Golf Super Rush box it says "In-Game Purchases". Mario Tennis, does not.

It makes me think that originally maybe they planned for paid DLC or content, or possibly like a Animal Crossing situation, it could be added to Nintendo Online Expansion Pack.

Nintendo mentioned "free updates" had concluded in November. Should we expect paid updates or DLC in 2022?
I'm not an insider, but I am glad I'm not the only one who found that whole situation bizarre. Cause it really is weird.

Mario Party Superstars has that "In-Game Purchases" notice too. Honestly, it would make a ton of sense for them to do more NSO Expansion Pak DLC offers like Happy Home Paradise, so... maybe?

I really don't see Camelot working on much else these days either...

Yeah Camelot is probably done until Switch 2. If I were them I'd just do Mario Golf crossover DLC with a DK course or something.

Of course, a well-crafted horde mode is an obvious addition if this multiplayer were to be refined. Traversal of the areas in which you have to survive would be important as the hordes multiply.

Again, it makes sense.

I'm not ruling out the posibility of Camelot releasing Toadstool Tour course remakes as paid DLC for Super Rush; they did go out of their way to specify that the previous update was the 'last free update', not 'last major update'. Going by Mario Maker and Animal Crossing that distinction is important.

I hope Mario Party Superstars DLC shows up too, so we'll have to wait and see.

Also been a long while since the last Fortune Street game, in 2017. I could see one hitting the Switch and once again being a Mario x Dragon Quest crossover like the DS and Wii installments.

Koei Tecmo's Hisashi Koinuma has stated multiple times that he wants to see a Mario Musou; so as much as i'd prefer to have Kirby or Xenoblade next I can't rule it out.

And hey, maybe a certain somebody is right and Bandai Namco are putting together a new Mario Baseball. Feels like it'd be too close to Golf if it launchd this year though; would Nintendo be weary of going too far with Mario Sports?

Honestly as excited as I'd be about Golf DLC, that game just missed the mark for me. I was so excited about it, but have barely returned to it. I really wish they had gone back to the Single Player to give it some love and fold in the DLC, like they did Aces.
