batman arkham collection + arkham knight cloud + gotham knights cloud + suicide squad cloud versions would be a very cool announcement. Also that means that Warner Bros is open to greenlight more mature games on switch.

Switch is literally getting every third party wiiu game. whats next? tanks tanks tanks! and tekken tag tournament 2 from bandai-namco?

There are always surprises and things out of left field that no one expects. Plus, even rumors are usually hit and miss, so you never really know what we're going to get. Hopefully there will be some things that are more up your alley!

Certainly. I'll be there with snacks, either way!

Been playing tons of Taiko on Switch recently and it makes me want more Bandai Namco on Switch. Can we puhleeeeease get a Tekken on Switch? 💕

Whenever you're in doubt about the quality of each Paper Mario, just reference this 100% accurate and handy graph!

ouW2bUj.jpg

The only way to read this graph is that the Japanese version of TTYD has much better music and level design than what we got.
I put it below 64 for a reason! Even with all the mechanical improvements and Vivian the constantly swaying highs and lows just can’t keep up with 64’s consistent greatness.

Still better than the games that came after it, but not by too much in Origami King‘a case.

If Capcom announces Resident Evil Switch and Nintendo gives us Xenoblade 3, then it'll probably be one of the best direct ever.

As it's raining and windy in the Netherlands (great stay at home weather), time for some Direct preditions;

Currently flip flopping between this week of next week. I'm personally leaning towards next week at the moment.

Nintendo Direct 17.02.2022

  • Opens with Splatoon 3. More footage of the singleplayer campaign, returning characters, new modes. Release June 2022.
  • Headlines; Batman Arkham Collection (Asylum on the cart, City as download... Arkham Knight as a cloud game).
  • Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will release as cloud games too.
  • Chocobo Racing Reminder
  • Triangle Strategy Reminder
  • Atelier Sophie 2 Reminder

- Kirby's & the Forgotten Land trailer + a Kirby celebration thing

- Stinky Horse for Everyone reveal. Thanks, we hate it. May 2022

- Resident Evil Revelations 3; Rebecca as the main character, takes place after that weird movie where she was abducted. Trailer ends with a note from... Billy Coen? 2022.

- Headlines 2; Advance Wars Rebootcamp, April 2022. Ezio Collection reminder, Mass Effect Collection, 2022, some third party games I did not expect.

- Bayonetta 3 Story trailer, August 2022.

- One more thing: new Fire Emblem. Not a school setting. More akin like the Tellius games in terms of setting. 2022.

Sadly, XB 3, Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime remaster are held back for later Directs.

Imagine, for a moment, that PM64 wasn't available on NSO.

If that was the case, would you prefer a PM64 or TTYD remake/remaster for Switch, and why?

Depends on the kind of remake.

Sadly Nintendo seems to be pretty adamant about not touching any of the level design when remaking their games so a rerelease of TTYD would fail to address that game's biggest issue. Most chapters are a slog on replays, marred by unimaginative, straightforward level design and constant backtracking with the narrative interludes only partly making up for it.

The problem with a Paper Mario 64 remake would be that they'd probably change the artstyle to better match the later entries. So I guess I'd have to go for a remaster that properly replicates its original look in HD.

What caused this renewed confidence in xenoblade? The website update?
Yes.

-Rumors of Xenoblade 3 coming (from Nate, Imran) and it was supposed to release late last year
-Mitsuda saying a project of his is possibly being announced this month
-Website updated and Monolith Soft lost employees, which could possibly point to contracts ending on Xenoblade 3. Also, they took down their hiring page for Xenoblade.

-You could say the same thing about last direct. And Nate thinks the game could come out 2023.
-Mitsuda works on more things than Xenoblade. In fact he could just not be involved at all in the next one
-A website update means nothing, just like the maintenance before last direct meant nothing, nobody checks these sites just because a game got revealed. The interesting part is the ad being removed but just because a game is entering final stages of development doesn't mean it has to be announced right now.

Nintendo Direct next week, 99% chance.

Biggest surprise: FPSs from Rare coming to Switch.
Goldeneye Remaster, Perfect Dark and OG Goldeneye for NSO, Perfect Dark Ze...

Hey whatever you want to believe. I’m just letting you know lol. I’m optimistic so.

"Rumours" came from Melia's English VA saying one is in development. Then suddenly all these people had their "sources" confirm it's true.

Tetsuya Takahashi confirmed that the Xenoblade team began production of a new game in summer 2018, at the same time as Xenoblade DE. Given it's over 4 years since Xenoblade 2, a new Xenoblade would be fairly likely even without the mixture of rumours, leaks, and things like soundtrack recording seemingly taking place.

Well, Goldeneye has been rumored for past few weeks, so it hardly would be a surprise.

But Battletoads on the other hand... I don't expect Rare to bring just the N64 games, Battletoads (and Battletoads & DD) should be their out-of-nowhere announcement.

I know that. But at the time many if not most people online where pushing for it to be the medieval fantasy game and not Xenoblade. Only after the VA's comment did people start talking about XC3 and started saying that the artwork was only for hire and not representative of a game in development. Something I thought was a possibility since it was first revealed, by the way.
The traction supposed insiders get by just putting one and one together is ridiculous.

Do you think Nintendo will mention if BOTW2 isn't in the Direct?
I think a lot of people are expecting a new trailer in the next Direct.
Probably not, Zelda is more of a June/E3 thing. I don’t think they would mention BOTW2 unless there was some other Zelda announcement that they wanted to tie it into.

They actually might. Which might also lead some people to say things like "They wouldn't have said something if it wasn't there" or other displays of similar "logic".

It was obvious XC projects were in the works for a while because Monolith Soft restructured in 2018 and began a hiring drive for Xenoblade, before another hiring drive for Zelda in 2019. The subject of whether or not there's a new IP has been a tricky one for a while, but the more recent hiring calls were for Xenoblade and Zelda. And, for most of the last 2 years, the public-facing information has been that Takahashi's team had a new Xenoblade in development.

I wouldn't really take what some people were saying online as evidence of what a lot of people thought; it's also not really relevant in discussions with individual users here and it's too close to strawmanning. Neither I nor anyone else here is responsible for generic online discourse, and you shouldn't really expect us to answer for that discourse. It's very unclear what you hope to accomplish by saying "lots of people expected this thing". Sure, OK, but what has that got to do with the conversation in this thread?

This is exactly the kind of strawmanning that we do avoid here. Not everybody posting inside information is the same, and it's counter productive to good conversation to generalise like this. If there's someone you specifically have beef with, then back it up with details instead of this.

I don’t think so. They’ll mention it when they announce their E3 presentation tweet. They could bring it up in this direct if they got other Zelda game announcements or if it’s delayed

Hmmm... Batman Arkham Collection is allegedly coming to Switch later this year

Another question:
When announcing Dread, they had a disclaimer before the trailer that this is not MP4. Do you think they’re gonna do that a second time when announcing the remaster? Especially since this will look much closer to Prime 4.

Unless they announce both games back to back(they won't) they absolutely will need a disclaimer.

I don't think they will show off Metroid Prime Remaster without SOMETHING at the same time for Metroid Prime 4. Even if its just a 10 second CG teaser + full title reveal

Maybe a sequence in the Direct where they say something like: "a great number of people are enjoying Metroid Dread, which was released last year. Thank you very much! Metroid Prime 4 is well into development, and we'll have news for you soon. In the meantime, take a look at this. snaps" Metroid Prime Remakester trailer

Yep. It’ll basically be something similar to this.

If I get

Batman Arkham Collection
New Fire Emblem
Xenoblade 3
Goldeneye 007
Mario Party Superstars dlc
Chrono Cross
Metroid Prime Remakester

+

New trailer for Kirby
Triangle Strategy demo
Splatoon 3 trailer
Advance Wars Reboot camp trailer
Other third party stuff

This will probably be the greatest Direct during Switch era for me.

Bringing over Chrono Cross without making Chrono Trigger available as well would be a weird move, and that is the hill I choose to die on.

Also, would be nice if they announced the FF Pixel Remasters and the FF Tactics re-release/remaster.

What I'm saying is that I didn't see any of the usual suspect insiders say anything about XC3 until Melia's VA said something. That it makes sense is beside the point. Takahashi iirc downright said they were working on Torna and XCDE alongside a new game. Any XC3 discussion only gained traction after the comment, not before.

Only just now an insider latched onto an accidental listing by a retailer. I've lurked around this forum for a few days now and the amount of putting insiders on a pedestal that's happening on here is ridiculous. I would even say sickening with the amount of blatant manipulation that I've seen. Say the most nebulous non-things and get people to almost worship you.

I know people in game dev, I'd have interesting tidbits to share, but I won't risk someone's career and their friendship. I've heard about means to keep as little people as possible from knowing things, so it's hard for me to believe that there're all these people who are constantly talking to the same few people, potentially breaking NDAs.
Also for what it's worth I've heard unfavourable opinions about games that were positively received by the fanbase at large, perhaps even to the point it's a fan favourite.

Edit: Spelling.
Dude, why did I put its there?

Probably same for me too lol. It’ll be the only direct outside of E3 to have BotW 2 in it. After watching some of these patents videos of aerial combat its made me more excited.
