Are you enjoying Zero Dawn? I found it to be a pretty dull open world, and it sounds like Pokemon is at least going for something. If you're enjoying it then finish, but if not go for the shiny new thing.
I'm enjoying it, yeah. The open world is a bit dull but I'm liking the story and the action gameplay is actually really good :) I might just blast through the main story now then do the DLC sometime in the next few weeks.

Shit. It's gonna start snowing a few hours before work ends. I might need to step out for lunch and pick up my copy of Pokemon Legends.

Since Best Buy still hasn’t shipped my copy of Pokémon legends, I started forza horizon 5. This game is stunning graphically

Best Buy better not take forever with horizon forbidden west when that releases

To be fair, every "mainline" Metroid game released after 2005 have been mostly developed by outside studios like Team Ninja and MercurySteam. Hell, even Prime 4 was originally set to be developed by Bandai Namco, and Federation Force was made by Next Level years before they actually became a Nintendo subsidary.

So Metroid actually is a series deemed not really important enough for a full blown dedicated team within EPD. Which looking at that EPD thread seems to be the argument, or at least speculation, for Pikmin.
I was mostly just making a joke as a Metroid fan about how niche Metroid is.

Though, honestly, I can understand the concern with a non-EPD studio taking over certain franchises.

Horizon zero dawn is one of my favorite ps4 games, I need to replay it on ps5 sometime since they got it running at 60 FPS there

About Chris Pratt as Mario:

(I made a new thread)

Here's what that movie is absolutely going to be:

Like, I'm right, right? That's what that movie is gonna be? That's how they're gonna get away with the voice changes, right? That's why he won't have the Italian accent, right? As Meledandri puts it:

That's why Charles Martinez is just a "cameo" as he's going to play Mario & Co when Pratt's character is outside the game world, right?

What do you think? I'm right aren't I? Right? Am I wrong? If I am, what do YOU Think the movie will be?

I think a couple pages back people were ruthlessly shitting on it, but please, add to the pile-on lol
I just wanted to point out the direct and indirect quotes surrounding the universal dislike

"the negative reaction was expected and explains that players just don't understand it"

"We know it's not an easy concept to grasp"

This is, (in my eyes,) ubisoft being a mid 2000's emo teen, and feels like a direct equivalent to the phrase "it's not a phase, mom!" Being shouted from behind their slammed bedroom door as every ubisoft fan boy and hater alike rains down verbal and written hellfire.

If you're in Canada the best fast food burger place is A&W

Canadian A&W is a completely different A&W than literally any other A&W

I do not have time to get into this
Real talks there was a brief moment in time back in summer of 2016 when A&Ws breakfast menu options were literally top tier (now it's not as good, but still impressive) and they're freshmade hashbrowns the size of their beef patties were simply divine

To the Canadafam who are feeling down and worried about the convoy crap, just remember there is still one good thing happening up there:

I don't begrudge people who need to vent about it but honestly Arceus could not come out at a better time. Putting this site on mute the entire weekend, all my friend groupchats on mute until Monday if they're not about Lost, Book of Boba Fett, PLA or Halo, and I will not leave Hisui except in instances of life threatening peril in my immediate vicinity.

And this almost makes me want to pre-order Kirby physically. Almost.

Sonic-Set.jpg

I know the gaming merch raffle is over, but I figured I'd post what I spent this morning building :D The Sonic set is amazing. A bit repetitive (the checkered squares aren't very fun lol), but it's so nice to look at. I even quite like the Eggman model, even if it is a bit weird.
If Sonic and the Black Knight didn't already exist, I would have said medieval Sonic The Hedgehog would be a rad concept ahaa

today was my 30th birthday, now i officially feel old.
Congrats and happy belated Mazi! All the best and hope you have a great one! A playlist of my existential crisis of impending 30ish doom helped relieve the worst of the stress I encountered, but if I may offer unsolicited advice; try to push off the feelings of being old until 40. It's just gonna get worse otherwise lol

(I speak from experience; having a quarter-life crisis at 20 might as well be mid-life)

I'm glad I went out early to get my girlfriend's copy of Arceus because that fucking terrorist convoy is showing up today and I'm NOT going to want to leave the house.
Stay safe if they're getting anywhere near you. I have friends near the downtown core of Ottawa and...yeah, I just sincerely hope they don't have to go out anywhere today 🙃 Just let these idiots fizzle out after they do their useless thing

"We know it's not an easy concept to grasp"
Exactly!! This right here is the most condescending shit, and I hear it all the time from NFTbros.

"Hah, if you don't like it, then surely it's because you don't understand it as much as I do. Here, let me explain,"

No motherfucker, we understand that you're an idiot and this fantasy world that these grifters have scammed you on is both impossible and boring as hell

I wish I could YEAH! This harder. Even as a crypto guy, doing the mining and trading like the goblin I am, I think nfts are one of the most idiotic "products"

Ngl mad respect for the grifter who started this scam tho, he's probably richer than a god after selling air to the masses.

Ubisoft is trying to follow a get rich quick pattern like everyone else riding the wave because things have been kinda downhill economically, but that's not an excuse to shell out even further when your company is already mostly a husk shambling and spewing out "mostly-finished" games.

So cake #2 doesn't look nearly as professional or tidy but it has Octonauts so I know my daughter will love it. Also it's tasty as hell, perfect texture this time.

There was a Sbarro at the mall I used to hang out at where I went to college, and the combination of a slop slice of pizza plus their baked ziti with extra sauce got me through many an existential crisis.

If by "kids" you mean "people who put pineapple on pizza," then I agree.

For the record, my go-to is to order one half pepperoni and olive, and one half sausage and bell pepper, then alternate slices. All those things together on a slice is too much, but alternating those two pairs of toppings is some sort of weird perfection.

Pedants and weebs, we keep this place chugging along.
Where do you stand on broccoli? 🥦

whenever I want to lose some weight cuz I've gone a little over my ideal, I'll eat white rice, steamed broccoli, carrots, cabbage, + a protein (and sriracha drizzled all over it) until I hit my ideal weight again. Idk if it's good or bad for me, but it's fucking delicious.

Usually when I get pizza it's bacon, black olive, jalapeño.

But occasionally when I really hate my stomach ill order a garbage can. I don't know how common they are as a menu item, but it's essentially either most of the toppings or all that a restaurant has.

Idk why but even though it sounds horrifying on paper there is a gluttonous appeal to it, especially after a heavy work out session.

I'm seriously considering migrating to fully digital. I can't deal with this anxiety anymore or having to wait 1-2 weeks after launch to play a game.

sure but why were so many PlayStations sold? Because they were competitive CD players?
PS1 had an eye-watering amount of super popular exclusives from the biggest 3rd parties at the time. Both Nintendo and Sega got royally trounced in that area.

Also PS marketing was on point. I was more of an N64 kid and yet I remember more PS ads than Nintendo ones (they were also extremely memorable ads.)

It took years before anyone learned how much of a clown show the last movie production was. Can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want to run a tight ship this time around.
I mean, they're probably only restricted to say as much before the first trailer drop, or at least promotional images.. I'm guessing around May or April they'll be more open about it..

I wanted to hear what Jack Black has to say, more than any other

My goal this year is to not buy day one unless there is a real reason to (Splatoon 3 for multiplayer progression and BOTW2 because I’m a Zelda shill). Relieves all anxiety from needing to keep up to date, makes me play the backlog, and likely will save some money by waiting on sales. I recommend this to everyone if possible.

What do we think, Fam?

If I'm reading the IR reports right (I doubt it, but), I think it's a strong likelihood they'll exceed PS1.

Switch needs a little less than 10 million units sold, and last year this same quarter they shifted 11.6m. The year before in 2020, 11.5mil. 2019, 14.5mil.

If it's not overtaking the Wii, I think there should be some slight concern for Nintendo based on past historical trends.

Because it had great games and no competition. The PS1 had nearly 8,000 games released for it, so there was something for everyone. The N64 had 393 games that felt like even less living through it. The Saturn was basically a Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 machine in Japan, and mostly irrelevant otherwise as there were only a few good games on it that weren't also on PS1.

Stay mentally safe, and see you again Monday!

You know, I actually did want to move to San Francisco as a child.

@Raccoon you must have thoughts on this

This was my thought process for a while, but while you have ease of use and access on one hand, going fully digital also means you lose a game if the developer chooses, and you don't have the physical value to sell. Neither side of the coin is inherently wrong, but after being fully digital I missed having physical copies for the value/collecter aspect.

I know with drm and modern online capabilities these days, developers can still stop you from playing a game even if you have a physical copy, but not all companies rhyme with poobisoft. So it's kinda more up to preference than anything with the only tipping point being a minor difference in monetary value.

Switch would have already passed the DS and PS2 combined if Nintendo had allowed Yabuki to make the FPS of my dreams.

It's a luxury but I go digital first, and usually day one. For my all-time favorites I pick up a physical copy the next time they're on a good sale (Black Friday is usually pretty good for this). That way I have a copy to collect and a hedge against future DRM situations.

This is just a theory of mine but honestly I think a big reason for the Playstation 1's success is also that, despite coming out in the transitionary period into 3D, most of the biggest Playstation games effectively control like 2D games. Think Final Fantasy or Resident Evil or GTA for example. The amount of Playstation games made with analog in mind is actually incredibly small. And considering the era this was in, it probably was for the best that most developers didn't have to think about the implications of 3D environments too much.

It's weird, though. It's definitely partially because I'm not into the JRPGs I've played from the PS1 as much as everyone else, but I honestly feel like the classic N64 games, for the most part, have aged about as well as PS1 games, despite being based on input methods and control schemes which have been refined and changed much more significantly since the N64's release than something like FF7. It's definitely just the cream of the crop, but in my mind stuff like Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Doom 64, Paper Mario 64 (this is a bit more like an FF7 situation, though, due to its mostly flat environments) or Banjo-Kazooie really didn't age poorly. The only top tier N64 game that I've played that I don't think aged well is Mario 64.

Never been to Betty's. I like Grill'd, especially their zucchini chips and simply Grill'd burger. You been there?

Grill’d is a good product as well, but it doesn’t fit into the same category as the rest for me. The beef tastes leaner, the toppings and sauces are a bit different, and the buns are harder/crustier than normal burger buns. I can’t go there and get a typical bacon cheeseburger like I can at the others I’d listed.

Four and a half days later, the Nintendo online stores for Canada and USA are no longer under maintenance.

Retro controllers are still sold out for N64, SNES and Genesis. NES two pack still on sale for $45CAD. OLED docks still available and not mentioning any 4k capabilities for Netflix et al. streaming, so it was all the nothing-burger I expected it to be.

WHICH MEANS JANUARY DIRECT IS READY TO GO GO GO
