I know people like the minigames, but without GB connectivity, I don't know how much value people would get from Stadium.

I was thinking about that as well but I guess it could have a campaign strictly focused on Pokemon battles. I'm sure some people would find value in that. Not most Pokemon fans of course but those who really do enjoy the battling aspect of the series.

Hmmm. Pokemon Stadium on NSO, or a new title?

holy shit, I know this is likely to be nothing…

but it could absolutely make sense

and now I really truly fucking want it

I wanna play all the PokΓ©minigames dammit!

I have fond memories of whatever the elephant guy one was

Donphan?

donkaphant?

a helladonkaphant?

I don’t remember connecting to a GameBoy but I do remember having a blast in all departments

I don't like how much I hate how much I love this

I hope Nate and MVG are right about the FF Pixel Remasters coming to Switch this year. Would love to replay FFIV and FFVI.

does anyone have any experience with these two docks? cause I wanna play pokemon on my tv

I have both of these but only use the shell with OG dock internals. The Gulikit one usb c port isn’t using the OG dock spring mechanism and gives only access to the HDMI and one USB port. I don’t use it anymore and prefer the second one. Only downside is, it’s a little bit too tall (compared to e.g. a bass top dock replacement) but overall more compact and better for docking.

Okay yeah Saints Row 4 is hella fun. I can see it getting repetitive quickly though so I'm gonna try to speed through the main quests and not really worry about side content (which is rare for me).

hey, check this out

I stand corrected, it’s a feature β€” they’ve made all the title holes longer in the update!

I'm watching some friends stream It Takes Two over Discord and, just,

Josef Fares

Why the FUCK

is this game still not on Switch
1) you’d need two pro controllers, the joy cons don’t have enough sticks on their own
2) that game looks WAYYY too good for Switch. They’d need to do a lot of graphics optimization.

Honestly I believe it. Even on a compressed 720p30 stream the game looked absolutely gorgeous (and also I am damn near traumatized by Cutie the Elephant πŸ˜₯). But also seeing it flip between isometric, splitscreen, and emulating different games like Diablo, it has so much charm and I genuinely do want to jump into this soon with my girlfriend.

At least I have a PS4 to get the game on (her roommates have an Xbox One and PS5, but only one controller each), but honestly the two DS4 controllers I own have such trash batteries that they hardly last for more than an hour collectively.

I feel like I struggle to figure out whether Rusty Bucket is a bad level or just a very tough one lol. I still think there's enough creativity in there to win me over.

Stuff like Click Clock Wood, Treasure Trove Cove, Freezeezy Peak, and Mad Monster Mansion is just next level. Then Gobi's Desert and the Swamp level are still great imo. The batting average for memorable levels in Banjo is staggeringly high.
Rusty Bucket Bay is fantastic. The level of detail and density in the world is insane, and the atmosphere really conveys that feeling of a miserable British port, grimy, gray and polluted. Great soundtrack too.

Okay, less stress to know that it's still staying a once a month release schedule. A small sigh of relief at least haha (fingers crossed for Kirby 64 for March 🀞)

...yeah, I concede that point.
What about sitcoms that don't have laugh tracks but live audiences that act like laugh tracks? Cheers famously had to say before every episode (I think it might have been a few seasons into the show actually, but from then on) that it was filmed in front of a live studio audience. Aside from some pretty meh seasons and a few parts that don't age well, I'd still say Cheers is one of the best sitcoms ever (probably not as good as Frasier though).

raccoons have absolutely no concept of personal space and it's hilarious
Personal space is only a concern with bipedals. If I see a fuzzy quadruped then "personal space" is no longer an existent concept.

hey remember when derachi thought you couldn't ask them to hold the pickles at jimmy john's
having worked john’s jimmy, pickle-holding is half the job

wait

I swear, if Nintendo doesn't have these N64 games on the next system day 1, I am going to....... write a strongly worded post on a message board.

Not hot take or spicy take or even mild take, but rather an objective fact: The TurboGrafx-16 would have been a wildly better addition to NSO than the Genesis.

I know people like the minigames, but without GB connectivity, I don't know how much value people would get from Stadium.
How about if you can pull in any pokemon you own from Home? Bearing in mind there is a free version with one box.

My main hope is the next wave of N64 games has more Rare stuff in it, especially DKR. Kirby 64 is the only thing left in the current wave that particularly interests me (I like Mario Golf, but it's not necessarily a game I'm gonna jump to play the moment it drops). I'd also like more obscure stuff like Mischief Makers but I know that's a licensing hassle. At the very least I'd like everything that was on the Wii and Wii U VC. Bomberman Hero is a must for the OST alone.

here's the NES controller thing @bellydrum

If you have physical games you play somewhat often, you can pretty easily close a game by selecting one that's not in the system. It'll close the current game before prompting you to insert the new one.

I came up with this workaround by using the N64 controller so much.

Does anyone ever go to sleep early just so they can wake up sooner and read all the new Nintendo discussion going on in this thread? (And to be another day closer to the January Direct?) No? Literally nobody does that and that's insane? Haha, yeah, totally.........

It's become a daily habit for me to check the famiboard like one would check out a newspaper after waking up so I know what you mean lmao

Being married with kids and full time employed helps with that (un)intentional early waking up for internet stuff!

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night just to see what's new here πŸ‘€

I really don’t mind a game every month. Barely can keep up with this releases with my huge backlog
I'm OK with one game a month for N64. I do think that there should also be regular and well signposted updates for the other systems, though, Mega Drive especially. Last month the MD update came the week after the N64 update so maybe we'll get more Mega Drive games next week.
Hmmm. Pokemon Stadium on NSO, or a new title?

Well, Pokemon Snap is coming to N64 NSO. Pokemon Stadium on NSO could well have the transfer pak functionality; there are references to it in N64 NSO's code and we also know that a fourth emulator exists (NES, SNES, N64 are 1 to 3, Mega Drive is 5). Plus, last year, a lot of places - included the oft-reliable Nate - talked about GameBoy games coming to Switch.

There could well be an update later this year which brings GameBoy NSO with the Pokemon games, Pokemon Stadium on N64 NSO, and transfer pak compatibility for those games. It's one reason why I'm expecting GB NSO to be in the expansion pack tier - because it'll have things like the Pokemon titles.

Also remembered the GBC versions of Perfect Dark and Metal Gear Solid yesterday and now I need those on NSO.

Well technically MGS on GBC was not really a "version" of Metal Gear Solid, it was a completely original Metal Gear game called Ghost Babel that was rebranded as Metal Gear Solid outside of Japan.

I played some of it a while back and liked it, but the fact that it never got rereleased on 3DS doesn't bode well for it being on NSO sadly.

Konami? More like Nonami, am I right?

Stadium seems like a bit of a weird choice for a revival but I'm not entirely opposed to it. However, I always imagined it as their own F2P PokΓ©mon Showdown that has direct access to PokΓ©mon Home. Basically just a battle client that can be used for competitive gaming and has compatibility with all other games (as much as possible). If this leak is correct, it's probably not that.

something something Famitsu something unreliable something something

But in all seriousness, the buzz and vibe that is emerging here is very promising. Even if I still don't end up buying the game, I've been rooting for Game Freak, spiritually speaking.

I played the intro to Banjo-Kazooie. It feels very 90s platformer in all the best ways.

I'm not sure I'll interrupt my slow-going Paper Mario playthrough for it, but I am looking forward to getting around to more.
