I've tried to play Metroid Prime at least three separate times and could never finish a single playthrough

How's that for a hot take
I think for it to be a hot take you'd need to follow it up with "and therefore the game must be trash, couldn't be simply me not vibing with it, nope, no chance"
Liking games is cringe
My hot take is that this "no one here even likes/plays videogames" meme is the stupidest joke our community has ever come up with - yes, stupider than Dill Spowser - and I am bewildered that it has persisted this long

Sorry to drag you like that Dardan lol it wasn't really meant to be directed at you 😆

I always thought that was more of a general Era thing rather than specific to the Nintendo community but I could be mistaken.

People on fami definitely play and like games.

That's why everyone here is cringe.

As much as I'm sad that GDQ is over I'm kinda relieved because now I can get back to playing video games instead of watching them.

Go play Captain Toad, it's free for NSO members. End.
Honestly, it was a rather bold decision to make Captain Toad a game trial game considering it seems pretty easy to beat the game just within the trial period

But hey, I'm not complaining. The game's great and I probably wouldn't have played it otherwise

Majora’s Mask is my favorite Zelda, so to answer both of your questions, Majora’s Mask lol
Ah, okay. That's a great choice. Majora's Mask is probably my favorite ALTTP-formula Zelda, too. Though it's hard to tell because last time I got super triggered at the Anju sidequest. I could not for the life of me figure out how I was supposed to know to go back to his house at like a random time to talk to the shop owner, which made me use a guide and kind of ruined the fun. Maybe I missed some text or something though, probably just me being stupid.

In general I kind of like it when Zelda focused on worldbuilding and sidequests rather than constant dungeoning, with maybe the exception of OoT. So Majora's Mask is a pretty special game.

I randomly reminded of Advance Wars this morning, and found it curious that we haven't heard anything from it since last June (except for the delay tweet).

Even if it's delayed to April, I feel like they would have shown something by now? What's funny is that the game was in a playable state in June, so the only reason I can imagine is that it's getting a graphical overhaul.

Can you imagine a new Fantasy Life for the Switch (Dane) that does justice to the game's gorgeous art?

Can you? Because I'm here to tell you that we'll never get it :(

Being playable doesn't mean a game is done and they are not going to do a graphical overhaul in a matter of months. Games also aren't shipped out the door as soon as they are done. It probably needed a few more months of polish and since the first few months already had other games scheduled in, the release date got pushed to a more convenient time whatever that time may be.

I think it will show up on the next Direct with a release date. Maybe a trailer drop on Twitter with some other posts explaining the game like they did with Kirby, but considering that AW was announced much earlier in comparison, the Direct seems more appropriate.

yeah, I too have never played the Prime games

I'll probably still end up playing the remaster if it looks good visually (though remasters of Nintendo games of that style and period historically haven't), but I might skip 4 until I play a copy of the trilogy on Wii
I just stuck with Mario and Pokémon (and Star Fox) over the years, never really branching out. I'm 27, and my first Zelda was Ocarina of Time 3D.

I enjoyed Dread and didn't feel encumbered never having played the prior 2D entries. I don't have a Wii U, so the remaster it is, for me.

I've uh...
I've never played Pikmin
That just means you have a fresh world to explore of serene bliss ☺️

But since NINTENDO still does not emulate GAMECUBE GAMES on NSO, and I doubt their propensity to remake the first (two) games on Switch and not just port the third game, I hope you find a method easily accessible to you to play the Gamecube originals.

Ugh, even if they put Gamecube games on NSO, you know that Pikmin won't even be among the first seven launch games

~~~
Speaking of NSO, has anyone datamined the N64 games ever since Paper Mario was released, or plan to again once B-K comes out? Be cool to see where they fall on the numbered list, if it makes it at all easier to guess alphabetically what else might be coming out
No Metroid Prime? No Pikmin? Would anyone else like to admit what games they haven't played? In fact, we'll turn it into a game. In this post, I will include the full character select screen from Smash Ultimate. Look through it and list every series represented that you have not played a single game from. Note that I am asking for series, not character. For example, Ness and Lucas are in the game. If you have played Earthbound but not Mother 3, that's fine, you've still played a game in the series. Also, if you've played Earthbound Beginnings but not the other two games, that's also fine. (There was a brief period of time where that was the case with me as I played all of the Mother games in release order.) Though you can also include individual characters' games if you want as that could be fun.
Anyway, looking at the picture below, the other series I have not played are:
1. Street Fighter
2. Banjo
3. Tekken
Also, my only experience with ARMS and Splatoon are playing their network tests.
As for individual characters' games, I have never played Kid Icarus: Uprising, so I haven't played a game with Dark Pit in it, other than Smash of course.
since we’re lightly mentioning the Prime trilogy, I just beat Quadraxis in Prime 2 (@BozPaggs!) and had a blast. Somehow both less of a puzzle boss than I remember and even more fun than I remember?? (I loved it at the time but it’s better than how I remembered it!)
as I crawl towards the end, my take on Prime 2 is that it’s really good. The only place it feels like it needed more oomph was different and varied biomes, but it makes sense given the plot / setting. Each area feels longer than Prime due to the split, but if you just go along for the ride, you’ll have a good time.
also anyone who hates it because some of the air hurts you is wrong, it is manageable and also ceases to be an issue, it just makes you strategize and navigate
that’s my spicy opiníoni
Eh, not necessarily. The simple reason they won't have shown it since June is because they didn't need to market it. It wasn't making the pre-Christmas release, and it isn't scheduled for the first 3 months of the year, so marketing and promotion can wait for the first Direct of the year to happen.
Why did no one tell me the NES NSO controllers are currently over 40% off? That's the only reason I'm here!
jk but for real did I just miss it or did no one talk about it
I posted it a couple days ago and even was quoted/tagged by Racoon. Gotta pay more attention ;)
People being positive about Prime 2 makes me happy.
I started Paper Mario TOK today and first impression is really positive. Writing is fun as usual. Goomba’s talking about taking the L and running off makes me chuckle.
5. Ice Climber
6. Dr. Mario
7. Game & Watch
8. Kid Icarus
I should've listed what I have played...
Huh. I didn't realize so many people here haven't played Banjo-Kazooie. It makes sense considering how long ago it released.
Anyways, it's cool that some of you will play it for the first time on NSO.
This is my case. Hopefully we get it next week.
  1. Metroid Prime
  2. Star Fox*
  3. Game & Watch
  4. Metal Gear Solid
  5. Mother
  6. Banjo-Kazooie
*I've played, but put very little time in.
I've never played
  1. Mother
  2. Street Fighter
  3. Persona
  4. Minecraft
  5. Fatal Fury
  6. Kingdom Hearts
And the only FE I've actually played at all is FEH so that only barely counts.
Street Fighter, Ice Climbers, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Tekken, Fatal Fury, Kingdom Hearts, Mother, Wii Fit & Star Fox for me. And Wario Land I suppose. And that's only series that I've played absolutely none of ...
Wow. I'm a fraud.
This is why I hope we see Diddy Kong Racing on N64 NSO. There's a new generation of young Nintendo fans who have never played it. It would be interesting to hear their thoughts on the game.
Unlike other Rare games, DKR wasn't part of Rare Replay. Even the lackluster Nintendo DS port is old... roughly 14-years-old.
According to Wikipedia, Diddy Kong Racing was the 8th best selling N64 game.
I've played games from every series that have playable characters in Smash and also the ones with just stages or items.
There are many I haven't played when stickers/spirits are included though.
I tried to play True Pacifist on my first playthrough not realizing it was impossible and got a rude shock when I got to the final boss lol
I uh never ended up finishing
You absolutely can get True Pacifist with your first playthrough. I got it. The wording people use is weird and makes it seem like you need to do it on a second playthrough. If you do all of the True Pacifist requirements on your first playthrough, then you simply have to reload your save after beating the game and backtrack to where the True Pacifist stuff triggers.
Makes me wonder if they’ll announce another rare game after BK releases, or wait till there’s a lineup update or something
I think you can just start back up right before the ending and then go back to compete some of the stuff to get pacifist. Not remembering all the details, but I don’t remember having to do an entire new play though.
I've never played Ocarina of Time
Really!? B-but, I thought we were friends. Best friends 5ever. How could you do this to me? Raccoon-chan, I loved you, but this is too much for my heart to take. 😭
Said port never even came out in Japan. Meaning it's been unavailable to Japanese audiences since 1997!
It was.
Hey, friend. It's been a long month and looks to be even longer year, but things are much better than they were. Hope all is well in here (and someone please e-mail SE about the gosh-darned Chrono Cross remake - I'm beginning to feel like Elmo screaming at a bloody rock about that game).
A little late of a response but I'm glad to hear things are going better! :)
I probably would have, if I ever had an N64. I skipped that generation completely, went from Genesis straight to Dreamcast, and the only reason I played Mario 64, Ocarina, and Star Fox 64 was because I borrowed a friend's N64 for a little bit. Really looking forward to catching up through NSO!
Nintendo's reluctance (or failure?) to follow up some well-performing games/series from the N64 always struck me a bit as odd. No equivalent to GoldenEye 007/Perfect Dark, no 3D Donkey Kong, ages for a new Pokémon Snap, series like Wave Race, 1080 and F-Zero dead after another mainline entry.
Yeah I'm curious about that too.
Here's the remaining list of confirmed post-launch games for N64 NSO. I'm wondering if Nintendo will release Kirby 64 before or after "The Forgotten Land".
  • Mario Golf
  • Pokemon Snap
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
  • F-Zero X
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
So we do have a vague idea of what's coming to N64 NSO soon.
