I just now watched that new Arceus trailer, and I have to say it looks really good. It's a style that I was a little put off by at first but the new trailer makes it work for me a lot more. The game has a lot of potential, I'm really looking forward to some actual hands-on previews from people soon.

Current decision: get Hack GU physical or wait some months for the digital version to go on sale… although I do already have the digimon cyberslueth duology in my backlog

I can’t remember if I’ve said this or not but I’m replaying the Metroid Prime Trilogy since I never actually beat the first two (or even meaningfully played the third one)

and then I’m gonna bite the bullet and try to get more than 30 minutes into Other M without bailing due to moderate cringe

just beat Prime a few days ago and damn, it really does slap! now that I have context for the 2D ones, it’s really amazing how they made this happen in 3D

I’m up to purplesky spicyair sand hole in Echoes

the Wii controls absolutely took a while to click with me, but now they really really have. Hope the remaster + 4 have gyro aiming because it’s one of my favorite Switch things!

also @BozPaggs I absolutely remember beating Quadraxis back on ye olde GameCube and I’m looking forward to experiencing it as a more finely weathered entity

Seriously can't wait for 2024's MP2 Remaster to fight that big quadrapedal bastard in glorious HD

I absolutely demand giant bosses in MP4

I was thinking of playing Bowser's Fury but I think I'll try to wrap up Ys IX today. It has been sitting there unfinished for months and I'm right near the end.

I'm currently playing through Ys VIII (on Chapter 5) and having a blast. IX is definitely on my radar at some point.

Do you think that Splatoon 3 will come with SplatNet3 in Nintendo Switch Online mobile app? Just like a second game. Or is this service-mobile like thing from Nintendo dead? But yes there will be voice via the app.

Same, actually. I got right to the last chapter and then just kind of... didn't finish it, for some reason. I definitely enjoyed it, although the story didn't do it for me nearly as much as Ys 8 did, so maybe that's why I fell off, not sure.

I kind of expected a NES remix Switch-version, which would of course be good advertisement to their NSO service where the games would be fully playable. But we heard none of the series anymore :(

Edit: Yooooooo FINALLY Nemo gets a new video game (the NES one is kind of like a favourite game of mine), and it looks gorgeous! Why didn't I know about this lol

Hope everyone has been doing well and/or has finally stopped playing video games.

Also make sure you get your booster shot. I finally got mine, and honestly it has actually kinda kicked my butt... but it is so worth it!

I got my booster yesterday and just with the two other vaccinations my arm really hurts like hell. Thankfully I don't feel sick at all. When I got my first shot I was a wreck the next day.

Weirdly, the first two didn't hit me too bad outside the sore arm. This time tho? Bowled me over something fierce. Chills and aches all day.

Since I've been complaining in here about lack of news on the Shadow Man remaster coming to Switch I had to drop it here of course:

It's apparently out the 17th of january!!!! Man this makes me really happy!!!!

This is exactly what I had the first time. I felt really bad. But went to bed early and the next day was if nothing happened.

Both my two shots and my booster hit me hard the following day, with flu-like symptoms. Cleared up after 24 hours in all three cases though.

2 years since i last cleared popolocrois on the psp

Youtubers really latched onto the Mario Kart 9 "rumor" stuff despite it not being anything substantial. It was an analyst's predictions and even if they did sprinkle in a little bit inside info into it, it's obvious to anyone that the next Mario Kart is in development and "with a twist" is vague enough to anything (or nothing).
Personally I think it’s just reassuring to hear that the next Mario Kart may be announced this year, and presumably released shortly thereafter. With 8 DX selling as well as it has, Tour having only been released 2 years ago (and still receiving steady content updates), and the uncertainty surrounding next Nintendo console, there’s little reason to believe that the next Mario Kart game is even remotely close. But Dr. Toto’s predictions provide a much-needed dose of hopium, which is more than enough for the youtubers to run wild with.

I hope so. I like being able to see my stats, even if it’s only for the last 50 matches. I also like how you can order gear through the app.

Still working my way through my first ever play through of Paper Mario. I’m currently in the Dry Dry Ruins. The game is very very good.
I think Paper Mario was the first game I ever became fully immersed in. It was such a joy to talk to the residents of Toad Town after every chapter and see how their dialogue changed, plus checking out the sign next to Merlon's house after each chapter, going to visit Luigi and seeing the letters, the post office, all of it.

Dry Dry Desert/Ruins/Outpost/Oasis is such an awesome vibe.

Also, buckle in for Chapter 3. IMO, one of the best chapters in either of the classic PM games and such a versatile experience. Keep us posted on your journey!

Reminder the first week's raffle is ending in roughly 29 hours.
Ohh so that's why people have been posting food, LOL

@Skittzo This crepe (turkey spinach mushroom and gruyere) was a late breakfast during work yesterday! After a morning of meetings I ventured out in 1 degree weather to clear my head and get it. It's on a new plate which was part of a huge new dishware set I got from my partner for Christmas :)

Oh god that looks good. Oh man I should not have looked at that an hour before dinner.

Well quite. I would think it a certainty any significant aiming mechanic in a first party would have gyro. To omit it would be an abomination.

This is the beauty of Xenoblade 2's combat

Look forward to seeing how much they improved it in Torna, too
Omg I hate this game so much. That's 2 years in a row it's made me miss the winter fishing tourney. It pushed me into extreme measures, time travel. I feel so dirty.

I love getting emails from Nintendo to remind me that my Club Nintendo points are about to expire. Is there anything I want to spend Platinum Points on? Nope! Gold Points? Nope!

Shit. That was today? Well I guess I'm not completing that badge this year too.

There's a whole bunch of wallpapers to buy now. And have you picked up the 2022 calendar yet?

I know right. I broke down and tweaked the system clock back five hours. Got in and got out then restored settings to normal. It was just a little time travel. Hopefully, no-one noticed. It's like doing 33 in a 30. The cameras won't flash you for that... hopefully.

the thing with time travel in animal crossing is that you'll know. it'll eat away at you as you realize how hollow your experience in the game, and perhaps your experience on earth, truly is

The latter obviously.

I'm going to stand under the asteroid in the fossil exhibit for a bit.

As part of my quest to work on Indies in my backlog, I dipped into Wildermyth and... I'm not sure it's for me. Something about the presentation and general flow of the game, plus the combat (even though I usually like tactical combat) isn't entirely clicking with me. I like a lot of the ideas behind it, but I don't know that I'll get much further or not.

The last thing I need right now is another gaming related calendar between the Hobonichi Mother 2 (for home) and Batter's Almanac (for work... eventually) calendars I already have :) But that was my first choice except for it being "temporarily out of stock". With 4 days left to claim one I doubt it restocks.

I'm currently playing through Ys VIII (on Chapter 5) and having a blast. IX is definitely on my radar at some point.

Whatever you do, don't buy it on Switch. Probably don't buy it on Playstation if you only have a PS4. PC and PS5 only. The game's performance is awful at the core of its engine and the Switch port is really bad.

I hardly felt anything after my booster; a sore arm and a little stiff and achey the next morning, but that was it. It's done wonders for my mental health, I feel a lot safer leaving the house now.

I'm still under observation post-cancer, so I especially don't want to risk getting covid, or passing it onto someone else for that matter; my mum and stepdad for instance are in their 60s and my little brother who I live with has an underlying health disorder.

Also, me three re: Astral Chain being awesome. I only got around to it last year but it far exceeded my expectations with its creative combat system and surprisingly engaging non-combat activities.

Every time I hear about NFT's, I moan.

I don't even completely understand them and nobody can fully explain them either....
They're just the latest shitty scam for separating the naïve and gullible from their money.

Thanks for the heads up. When I get it, it'll be on PS5 then.

Its scam to make money without generating value.

That's it, that's all there is to know.

And then
It was time
For Toronto to drown
In the sweet sorrow

(Before anyone trips from that headline, Bryan Lee O’Malley is writing and Edgar Wright and Michael Bacall are EPs, so if you liked the movie then the band's back together!)

Man, it seems everyone is beating a game here. Just went through my first run of Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, no where done with playing, but still counts as beating a game I guess. lol

Finally completed Ys IX. Good game. Not as good as YS VIII. Shit port.

I believe 8 is the superior game so if you only played one, make sure it is that one. IX tries to do things that the engine clearly wasn't meant for. You get to run around a big city and you great a lot of new movement mechanics, but it all just doesn't come together as well as you'd hope. The city lacks color compared to the island of 8. The new mechanics don't really improve exploration and combat all that much and are clunky at times. With that said, the core gameplay is still fun. Battles are quick and flashy. The cast does grow on you and as a whole, might be better than 8s cast. I did feel a bit sad during the credits knowing that most of these characters will probably never be in another game. However, Dana was what really made 8 and IX doesn't have a comparable co-star.

Don't buy on Switch. It's an ugly on another system and Switch version really has no excuse running this bad. I hear the PS4 version runs bad as well that only the brute strength of the PS5 or PC really make the game run decently. So if you are going to play it, play it on those systems.

I am curious on where Falcom takes the series next. It seems like the 8 formula is here to stay for the time being. I hope Falcom can build a competent engine for the next game. I don't need it to look top of the class. But it's clear that this engine was built for games smaller in scope and they stretched it to its breaking point. A analogy I would make is that if Nintendo took the Ocarina of Time engine, tried the next game the size of Twilight Princess, while also adding in the climbing and gliding mechanics of Breath of the Wild. IX feels like it wants to be part of the open world craze but I think it shines best in the smaller (but still decently sized) areas outside of the city.

Well said, this mirrors my thoughts almost exactly. The overall cast in 9 is better than 8, I think, but it's spread out more and I didn't find anyone to be as good as Dana was in 8. I was more invested in her than pretty much everyone here.

My main complaint is that as you said, the city itself (while fun to use the movement abilities to explore!) just feels really same-y and boring in color palette and a lot of the areas don't feel unique enough. The same goes for the music, actually: While 9 still has plenty of good tracks, I found that it blended together more and had less variety to it than 8, and on the whole isn't as good.

Still a fun game that's definitely good (but yeah I'd play it elsewhere if you can).

Some small spoiler-y talk:

I thought they were going to use Aprilis as the "Dana" of this game, and I admit I'm disappointed they didn't, I think that would've worked well. I also found myself missing the solo-Dana dungeon that was in 8, it would have been nice to have an equivalent to that here.

IX does try to do the dual-storylines thing again and while there is a story pay off, it just wasn't as good as the way they did it in 8. Like playing sections where you have less abilities and the enemies and obstacles are more annoying just isn't fun. The devs must have known it wasn't fun considering they did you the option to skip the gameplay portions of the secondary story.

I think the main difference there is that in 8, the dual story sections make you feel MORE powerful and badass, plus all the story payoffs, so they're just actively fun to play. Whereas in 9, like you said you feel much less powerful and they have unfun mechanics all over the place.

I am really looking forward to whatever is next, hopefully with a better engine and optimization now that Falcom is moving more in on Switch.
