Talking about Mario Kart, would people be up for the next one being Nintendo's big first foray into the 'GaaS' genre?

So it launches with your typical 32 tracks and such-and-such vehicles, then every 3 months you get a new "Season" with a free 2 new tracks and 2 remastered tracks alongside a paid 'racing' pass that offers new characters and karts.

Honestly... I wouldn't mind it. The biggest issue with most of Nintendo's recent 'sports games' is that, outside of the short singleplayer stuff, there's not much to really strive for outside of just playing the same stages over and over. Whereas an evolving MK game would give you some reason to jump back in outside of "hey lets play a few tracks with friends."

I know that's probably not a very popular opinion but, hey, I ain't here to make friends. I'm here to make pointless grudges with anonymous people on the internet over electronic toys >:)
Splatoon is Nintendo's first big foray into the "GaaS" category, though.

Honestly, I would pay $15 every ~18 months for four new cups with three characters. Give me three or four seasons worth of DLC over the lifetime of the system.

Obviously the Polygon article was exaggerated and stupid, but Mario Kart 8’s sales on Wii U definitely was an overperformance. It sold more than the GCN and GBA titles and was basically equivalent to the SNES one. 8 million on a console with 13 million users (obviously less in 2014).

Selling to over 60% of the install base is something very few games do that aren’t packed in with every system.

This. I would be surprised if Nintendo adopts a battle pass style system simply because I think the player base mostly plays local for that game. And frankly I’m at a point in my life where the last thing I want is additional unlock grinds.

Splatoon absolutely could get away with a battle pass simply because the game is online focused and the unlocks are already structured in a similar way.

If Sony tried to sell PSVR as a standalone device it'll fail just like the Vita. Although after seeing how their portable line and the Wonderbook ended I won't be surprised if PSVR ends up being abandoned a few years down the road.

I don’t see why. It’s not like PS5 games play on PSVR2. They might as well be distinct systems, and big reasons I see Sony tying them together are power (both processing and energy), and giving more people a reason to own PS5.

While I understand the power interests, having a less powerful system that has no cabling remains more appealing to me. So while you say it’ll fail, I’m more likely to ever buy it. Neither of us could possibly predict the success of either direction / if either would have less software support than the other.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already was a GaaS and had several seasons worth of post-release content. It just came in the form of arguments about the next one.

I wouldn't mind this, but I know most people just want to buy the game and be done with it, which is fine, but how much more can they iterate on this franchise? Like what else can they do? As someone who doesn't mind (some) GaaS, I'd be fine with this (and Splatoon) going that way.

I'm not gonna tell you guys not to talk shit anymore but I do kindly request that you post links, I'm tired of digging for stuff

So my 7 month old is much more frequently needing to be rocked to sleep/nap so I need to find a new mobile game that I can play in portrait mode with one hand that doesn't suck and isn't one of DQ1-6 and 8 which I just recently played on my phone.

Any decent (preferably free) mobile games that fit the bill? I don't mind gacha unless it's like really, really aggressive.

Edit: or DQ Tact which was actually a hell of a lot of fun but I basically finished it.

Congratulations on winning!

SMTV is actually pretty open, it has huge open areas that you can explore. The main objective is always clear, but exploration is VERY rewarding. And since you like Pokémon, I think you would feel right at home with the monster collecting. The game is all about building your team managing element affinities and skills.

My backlog is a bit too large right now to take on any other titles, so I ended up going with Diamond since its more likely to hold its value. Perhaps I'll return to check out SMTV in the summer if things quiet down (at this rate they look like they'll just get busier!) though, thanks for the explanation!

Nah, just ideally something you've eaten.

Ordered an Adjarian Khachapuri from this exact restaurant yesterday, so pretty much ate what is in the picture. I do enjoy most types of Khachapuri, especially Adjarian and this establishment makes them good enough. Didn't have such a visible egg tough, since it was already mixed up with the cheese inside.

Looks incredible. Is it more or less eggs and cheese in a dough bowl?

You could always try the DQ Dai mobile game (Hero's Bonds). The Kairosoft "management sims" like Game Dev Story are fun but a bit mindless. Cygames' gacha stuff is usually pretty F2P friendly so maybe Dragalia Lost or Granblue Fantasy, you have to jump through some hoops for the latter and it's technically browser based, however.

There's some really good stuff on Apple Arcade, too. Sp!ng, Grindstone, Bleak Sword...

Just preordered Elden Ring on my Series S. Welp, let's see how this goes...
I expect to be enamored with it for 5-10 hours, then hit a wall on boss, then hit another wall on a mini-boss in an alternate path, then give up. Shortly after I'll engage in one of the new From Software difficulty/easy-mode threads just prior to it being locked.

Rakunagi-san, would you like me to order you In-N-Out for dinner?

I want a rice ball!

Ooo, Hachapuri! I ate a lot of them during my army duty in Trebizond, Turkey. Pontic version is a little different than Georgian, they use the greek Kolot cheese there. Stretches perfectly.

As with all Khachapuri, cheese is put into dough and baked together AFAIK. The egg is more of a topping meant to be mixed up into cheese with a fork.

Other Khachapuri types are more like an all cheese stuffed pizza

I’m sitting here realizing I never beat Bravely Default II. I stopped a hair short of the final boss, and started on the super bosses, beat a couple of them, and then just never finished. Now I feel too far removed from the game to know if I can win.

I’m right before the end of SMTV as well and have been for about a week. Why does this happen with JRPGs?

I’ve heard Pide is similar to Adjarian style Kachapuri (one can see the similarity in pictures)

Never got around to eating it whenever I visited Turkey.

I should've specified but I'm much more into idle/turn based mobile games than action games. I might actually have to give Fire Emblem Heroes a try, I've never been interested in FE as a series but gameplay wise it feels like what I want in a mobile game.

Yeah I stopped at the same place, though before I could beat any of the super bosses. Not sure why I stopped there...

Sounds amazing. More dishes need to be completely stuffed full of cheese IMO.

Nah, pide is basically a oval shaped pizza, has Byzantine origins. It has a cheesy version but not same. Hachapuri is much deeper and crispier than that.

The village I did my duty is just few miles away from Adjara, the home of Adjarian Hachapuri. Adjarian people are Laz and speak Laz, there were lots of Adjarian people in that village. One restaurant by the seaside made the best hachapuri with lots of butter and I was there every saturday.

Many Wii U owners did. :p
I'm a Wii U owner and a Switch owner and I didn't even buy Mario Kart once. 😉

Wow. Wow wow wow.

Also @Raccoon why are you on twitter trying to start crap with Jon Cartwright of all people?

I wonder if i should be arsed to hook my Wii to a TV again and replay Galaxy 2 and finally finish Metroid Prime 2.

How was DQ 8 on your phone? I have no other way to play and I doubt it will be on Switch anytime soon.

she always fucking does this

say thing
someone respectable says no
change to adjacent not refuted thing

jon has added the cool new step of "no you're still wrong" which I appreciate

So weird thing. I gave my wife my V2 Switch after purchasing the OLED, and transferred the data from her V1 Switch to my V2.

Long story short, it transferred all her save data MINUS Pokémon Sword. It’s just not there and when she tried to boot the game it acts as if it’s a new save file.

Not sure what the hell happened. Is that normal?

So according to a VGC journalist on Era, there's apparently another Square timed exclusive game for PS5. I doubt it's Chrono Cross but it seems to be FF related, perhaps FF9 remake or FF7R Part 2?

Looks like Sony is making sure FF is only on PS5 this generation and will eventually come to PC but horrible ports from what I have seen/heard.

Square is making so much money with these deals, it's honestly insane.

The Vita was also it's own distinct system and Sony pretty much pulled the plug after the first year and just left it to third parties to keep it somewhat afloat. Right now VR still has that fresh new technological marvel feel to it, but if it fails to take off I could see Sony shelving it just as easily as the Vita. However as you said this is my own personal prediction and maybe things won't turn out that way.

In other words, my post is the grumbling of a sour Vita owner who's still disappointed in how Sony handled that system.

Ah, fair enough. In that case, my recommendation for Game Dev Story and others still applies.

But why would you do that to yourself?

(Inb4 “Nintendo keeps making the same games over and over”)

Ugh, I wish they made Galaxy 2 again.

It was actually not too bad. The camera made it tough to play with one hand but the visuals and performance were great.

Whatever this PS5 exclusive is, I doubt it's any of the GeForce leak games. If they're PS5 exclusives, they should be true exclusives, meaning no PC version either. We probably don't know this "close to be announced" exclusive is.

y'all I'm just trying to live my life and my friend sent me this stupid song this morning and it's all I can think of and I think it might be the fuckin number one jam of 2022

please listen to this

I just did a quick cursory Google search; unfortunately have no experience transferring save data or having played Pokemon SwSh yet. I know that it's one of the few games not supported by Nintendo Cloud Save data which is absolute HORSESHIT, but I digress.

From what I understand from game8.co's guide, is that you have to use the original Switch to transfer the individual save data for Pokemon Sword to your new Switch (but this will overwrite any progress that may have been made on the receiving Switch. Shouldn't be an issue, but worth mentioning all the same).

Apparently it's the same as all other games in terms of exclusivity, it will come to PC later. In addition, the journalists says that we won't have to wait long. Maybe State of Play this month?

FF9 Remake is a good guess
