I like this, but it also feels a touch empty, like it's missing another subject in the upper left quarter or something like that.

But we still need a Direct in order to announce Xenoblade 3, Chrono Cross Remastered, Chrono Trigger coming to NSO, Chrono Trigger HD-2D, Earthbound Trilogy, and Donkey Kong Country Returns Once Again.
This, but also like... kind of not even joking? If Xeno 3 is coming in 2022, or DK or something, then odds are good Nintendo will want to announce it before E3, even if it isn't coming out until November-ish, unless they're okay with a very short marketing window. An early year Direct is the prime spot for that.

Hell yeah, go back to the WiiU days where a Direct could be a couple games and then like 15-20 minutes of NoA people doing goofy skits.
I'm not being sarcastic, I legitimately loved those
Nintendo be like:

-Entertaining personality-filled presentations

-An actual video game system with actual video games to play

"Pick one."

Yeah I'm really only half-joking. All of the things I listed make perfect sense to me, including the Chrono dump. And I think Switch makes sense as the lead platform for Chrono, thus a Direct announcement for them also makes sense. A 3-in-one Earthbound pack (à la Collection of Mana) would also be a great way to bring Mother 1 and 2 to Switch (otherwise what the hell have they been waiting for?) while also finally allowing Reggie to fucking rest. So yeah, not really joking with that list.

The only thing that made my post a half-joke is the fact that I don't expect Nintendo (or Square) to do what I think makes sense. 😅

Well I mean... one of those things would have us playing games, and the other would have us shitposting and meme-ing.

Which of those would Fami prefer?

It would be nice if Nintendo gives us a little tease of Xenoblade and DK for an early direct, and they reveal all the gameplay bits at E3. I suspect DK will be released in 2023 however.

That is an incredible box art but, damn, it just exemplifies how completely lifeless that name is lol. It'd be like having these:

SHOOTING HORROR COUNTRYSIDE EXPLORATION
yeah the asano games have amazing cover arts but their insistence on using these weird titles is just... i don't get it.

I will never get the constant insistence that BOTW2 will be delayed when Kirby/Splatoon/Rabbids don't get the same fears.
I think it's the "aiming for" part of it that worries people. If I remember correctly the trailer said aiming for 2022. But I do believe it will come this year.

So? It doesn't mean it'll happen everytime. If we don't see it in the February Direct then I might start to worry, but it's too early right now.

I wouldn't necessarily be concerned if it's not shown in February. They could be saving it for an E3 blowout if it's coming in November. :)
This is what I'm thinking. I feel like it was initially targeted as 2021 and that 2022 is the delayed date. Especially since Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade 3 were both reportedly targeting 2021, I wouldn't be surprised if the "2017 part deux" was supposed to be last year, and then the heavy hitters got pushed due to covid.
Same here!

I've been binging some "where are they now"-video's of some early YT and Vine creators.... goddamn man, even watching the saddest movie I can think of will probably cheer me up... Some of these people really got fucked up by becoming famous, wealthy and kinda forced to live the persona of their video's.

Yeah, so I spent way too long fighting my device to write up a post, just to finish it right after the thread was closed.
I probably really didn't need to enter the fray again, though, so I figure it's for the best.
Happy new year, Fam.

Fun thing I discovered: Picked up the Danganronpa Decadence cart and when I put it in it created four separate tiles for the four games on the cart, no downloading a separate version or anything. Pretty cool, and I hadn't seen it done before.

It can get annoying if people keep insisting that there's no way BotW2 can meet 2022, but I don't get trying to 'dunk' on anyone with even healthy doubt as to whether the game might meet that release year.

There seems to be an undercurrent that those who aren't certain of BotW2's 2022 release date are somehow "anti-Nintendo," as if a game being delayed in the-year-of-our-lord 2022 is somehow indication of an incompetent development team. Meanwhile it's more likely that they just don't want to get as disappointed if the game they're very excited for doesn't release in the year they want it to.

I’m playing cruisn for the first time now and damn, what a small team this was made by! One of Nintendo's most interesting relationships / publish jobs for sure.

Triangle Strategy box art is gorgeous. When is Square selling it as an NFT? I got $1,000 to drop on it.
I’m sure they will try to sell different tile images for the Home Screen as NFTs (I’m sure that isn't possible, but if it was they would try).

Horrible title, but I ADORE the boxart for Triangle Strategy! Finally box art that's not so horrible that I feel forced to reverse the cover. which became a habit for me to do so whenever possible lol:
Have you seen the reverse boxart for Xenoblade on Wii?

It's is the one case where I did reverse the cover and kept it that way.

It really does look very nice, and I'm not so sure it necessarily needs something to fill in that area.
The darkened field in the foreground, behind the lone figure, seems like it could represent a realm of destruction, with destruction's smoke rising and mixing with the clouds, almost swirling toward the hopeful blue sky out toward which the figure is looking.
It's more effective a composition than its apparent simplicity might indicate.

That said, this is art, and effectively illustrates an entirely different focus and feel:

This as well:

While I understand it's marketing, I do wish boxart would lean a bit more artistic like that in general.

Why does mine look different? Not nearly as beautiful as your copy:

Loads of Wii games had awesome reversible covers. Here are the ones for Pandora's Tower and The LAst Story:

As far as New Years resolutions are concerned, my goal is to explore new hobbies, get back into shape, and try to meet some new folk in the foreign state of California

Reversible covers are great... but they're useless to me if they don't have the console banner/spine label :( I value the aesthetic consistency of my shelf more than the aesthetics of the art when viewed from the front.

You have a point there. But somehow I already liked it back in the day when me and my friends made compilation tapes for each other and instead of just putting the names of the artists on the covers we made whole bunches of cut and paste artwork of the tape covers. I really like the kind of messy-but-colorful aestethic that goes with reversible covers. But REALLY appreciate it when the title on the spine is also taken care of on the reversible cover, like NIS does most of the time.

To me I'm fine with a messy-but-colourful aesthetic if it's consistent in its messiness, if that makes sense lol

Like, to me this just looks plain bad:

zATt0Bf.jpg

Whereas this looks great:

4Rs67XS.jpg

Because, despite the latter having many different styles of logo, the consistency in having every logo be unique means that it creates an actual aesthetic. Whereas the Wii U's (alongside the awful blue colour lol) has none of that. Reversible box-arts are almost always gonna be breaking the consistency of whatever display they'd be in so I don't really like to use them.

I agree so hard

I think that's the European reverse cover. I got the American one.

I edited the OP to request that you tag me if you are submitting a picture entry to the weekly raffle.

This week's raffle has started (will end next Sunday) so post your food pics!

Haha true yes. Only now that you mention it I remember Operation Rainfall haha :)
All three games came in quite the cool first day ediotions with goodies like art books and soundtracks

All this talk about box splines reminds me of how upset I am that Super Bomberman R is the only case in my collection that isn't uniform.

Don't have any food pics to post but, damn, I have eaten too much fucking food this holiday season.

I feel like I need a week-long fast to get the constant feeling of 'heaviness' out of my system. Maybe I should play a long-ass JRPG or something just to distract myself from food and let me 'reset' lol

Though, I mean... it was all incredible, amazing food. But, damn, it's too much. I had barely even recovered from the Christmas turkey dinner and I'm now full up with New Year's Day salt beef and latkes.

Rule question! Does the food photo have to be taken during the duration of the raffle week, or can it be something we've had rattling around in our cameral roll?
