anyways, I'm fully onboard either the Mario Musou or Mario Baseball trains(in that order) but I'm expecting Mario & Sonic 2024

just seems like the kind of thing you'd find out about in April

Today, this entire forum is after a NINTENDO DIRECT!! But they'll have to avoid the Wario, as they play the most exciting game of their lives!! From The Treehouse on Famiboards, it's time to PRESS YOUR LUCK!!

And now, here's your host, the STAR of PRESS YOUR LUCK,
EvilChameleon!!

Thank you thank you thank you and welcome to the 8th Nintendo Direct Speculation thread! I've often thought direct speculation was a bit like the classic gameshow Press Your Luck. Everyone comes in wanting big announcements, and you can either leave elated, or with absolutely nothing that interests you. I tried to put a good selection of fun stuff on the board, some oft-rumored stuff, some random stuff, etc. Plus there's the dreaded Wario, who will take away all your announcements and leave you waiting for the next Nintendo Direct. The current rumors are we will see a Nintendo Direct in April, so let's light up the board and go!

Instead of a poll, I'm going to ask weekly questions within the thread itself, based upon things we might see in this next direct. I will be using the threadmark system, so if you miss one, check those out! And here is the first question;

Seeing as I'm launching this thread on Mario Day, if we do indeed get a Mario sports game in this next direct, what sport will it be?

Mario & Sonic at the 2024 Paris Olypic Games. 😉

Sure why not lad.
Just tryina consider peoples' comfort and stuff.

The idea of Fami Direct threads was for them to be sorta isolated "event" threads, but having one last for potentially half a year kinda defeats that. Plus last time one ran super long it got a bit doomy and weird, and I wouldn't want the OP to get exhausted by that sort of stuff.

Generally I agree with @Raccoon that a Partner's shouldn't end the thread but this year is proving very odd and lord knows what's happening anymore.

Ah sure what have ya.

To actually have a real point and not riff on Press Your Luck, I feel like we have to have some good announcements coming for the end of the year since it appears that Switch 2 is indeed 2025. Going to need at least a couple of titles for the fall at a minimum and enough rumors to at least have some decent titles coming out.

Ah yes the year before the supposed release of next gen console tends to get weird. I’m here for that though :)

@Josh5890 shared what I thought was a pretty good list of what we can reasonably expect from Nintendo for 2H 2024.

At this point I think Nintendo is going to round out 2024 with mostly more of remasters/remakes, saving the big ones for Switch 2 in 2025. I think MP4 will be one of those titles slated for 2025 among with dual Switch 1/2 launch.

So my guess: MP2, MP3, LOZ:TP, LOZ:WW in the next Direct revealing 2H 2024.

tbh, not really feeling an April Direct.
Feel like we're potentially getting a Twitter drop for whatever July ends up being (if there's a July game, they might break yet another pattern and have an empty July and have an August game), and the next Direct proper's going to be in June.

Willing to be proven wrong, but it feels like too much in terms of Directs happening at once!

Most people voted to close the previous topic, and now we've gone against the community's wishes by making a new one just a few weeks later.

The Mar10 video provided release dates to upcoming games for the first half of the year and that would seem to indicate there won't be a real direct soon.

I don't think its healthy to have these long drawn out topics where people are resetting the clock everyday and driving themselves crazy with speculation when there is no reason to think anything is on the horizon. This topic should have been opened in April, when the next direct is actually rumored to take place, as was the custom previously. But I guess there's no stopping this train.

Yay new thread! Not sure I have predictions ready to go just yet especially with the big release date news today, but I’ll throw out some early thoughts.

April probably has…something…so I think the Direct will be in the second week of April (the 9th through the 11th) to have room for a shadowdrop. Likely contenders to me are Luigi’s Mansion 1 and Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. I’m going to guess standalone purchase Mother 3 is probably later in the year for us since they won’t want it too close to the “free” Japanese NSO release, but if it’s April rad, I’m down.

I think we’ll finally learn whatever big new content is in The Thousand Year Door then. Definitely going to be more than a new NPC, but how big it is I’m not too sure. Also heck yeah it comes out the same day as World of Goo 2! Going to be a great day for gaming!

Big games I think we can expect to see are Metroid Prime 4 and Donkey Kong as the two big holiday games, Fire Emblem 4 (the Summer game), and Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD. I think there is some party / casual game in there like Tomodachi Life and Mario Party / Mario Sports. Most hoping to summon Fortune Street into existence.

All of this would make for a wild Direct, but I do think there’s a good chance for most of this to show up. With the Switch 2 internally delayed, Nintendo suddenly has to make this year seem appealing quickly. That’s why an April Direct makes sense and some stuff that might have made sense for cross gen (the Zelda ports in particular) will hit this year.

I’m expecting donkey Kong and a tease for Metroid prime 4 personally

Im playing RPG’s this year

Like a lot. With Paper Mario TTYD and the potential FE 4 remake, I will be adding to that backlog.
You ain't lying.

Still gotta go finish up Like a Dragon 8, at some point. Playing FF7 Rebirth currently. Trying out and loving Dragon's Dogma 2's character creator. Looking forward to Rise of Ronin's first round of previews/impressions going up tomorrow. Looking forward to more on SaGa Emerald Beyond. TTYD remake's finally been dated. Eiyuuden is on the way. MH Stories HD is as good a reason as any to give that oldie a replay.

Oh, and I gotta fit in Unicorn Overlord, at some point!

I hope somebody's ready to step up and give me another in some of my other favorite genres, soonish, cuz I would love another action, fighter or pure spectacle/stylish action game to step to the plate!

Rockman Taisen and Garou City of Wolves, where you at?!

Personally, I'm not sure about there being both an April and a June Direct. If the system isn't dropping until next March, then having a full Direct dedicated to mostly Switch 2 stuff in June seems a little weird. Part of me thinks they'll just have the one Direct sometime before mid-June and just show the system as the "one last thing" at the very end, so third parties are able to throw the Switch 2 logo into the end of their trailers during Summer Games Fest.

You know this treads even in the other place and the even older one (yeah I'm being lurking since then) are kinda like that quote from Einstein that is on Frycry 3 that edgy people like to throw.
I can wait until we are on the Metroid it's niche part of the cycle or Mario Kart 8 it's that fucking old.

Personally I don’t have any strong feelings one way or the other regard a direct date.

As far as Mario sports I’d definitely go with baseball. Not because so many others are, it’s just because it’s the one I actually want.

I don't believe that an April Direct is happening. H1 has been laid out, so anything beyond that can wait til June. And no, I believe in the rumors. When was the last time anyone knew of Nintendo marketing event plans 2+ months out?

So the implication was that there would be both an April and a June Direct? When I heard of the April Direct rumor I thought it would serve as a replacement to both the February and June Directs.

Anyone know of widely reported/corroborated rumors that turned out to be completely false in Nintendo's history?

Switch Pro, Star Fox Grand Prix, and Wii HD are the biggest ones I can think of

I think this over exaggerates any potential issues. No one is resetting the clock or "driving themselves crazy with speculation". It's just a speculation thread that happens to be tied into Direct speculation. That's all.

I’ve been saying this since the end of the DS’ life…it’s like the latter half of every Nintendo handheld has me just filling up the backlog (and sometimes getting to those games).

April direct makes sense to make a shadowdropped announcement (Prime 2/3?) and then show games for 2H. Hopefully that lineup includes Fire Emblem GotW Remake and Metroid Prime 4. But as their is 0 games for H2, its possible to expect 3-5 new first party game announcements.

Thanks for sharing this information with me.

Ah well, Switch Pro was more of "they made the OLED instead" from my understanding.

I don't know anything about Wii HD.

I've never heard anything about Star Fox Grand Prix though. (If it was real and cancelled or whatever) -- I'm leaning towards this being an example of fallacy though.

BIG SHRUG

Normally I’d agree, but I think in this case plans were in motion for earlier but due to the Switch 2 delay they got moved. So someone knowing of something about April might have originally been planned for an earlier date.

But I will say that I am biased to the April rumours because I just want a general direct as early as possible.

That rumor about a General April Direct is looking pretty good I'd say after the minimal TTYD and LM2 updates today! It's time for Nintendo to fill up the rest of the year. I hope it is finally Metroid's time... not just Prime 4, but 2 and 3 as well! Hell, throw in Samus Returns and Zero Mission while we're at it! X)
I mean, maybe? The lack of an announced July release currently is a little suspicious, but otherwise Nintendo doesn't really "need" to do anything before their typical June slot.

That said, those release dates really don't signal any sort of holding back, which is a little odd if a hardware release did, in fact, get pushed our of this year. One would expect that to create some gaps that would be in need of filling by spreading things around more.
