Even without machine translation. The date and time was written in the article, and the original trailer state it was coming on March 9 in Japan, so what else could that mean? Are we basing this March 9th thing just off Google Translate?
Just double checking, I can think of many times were a wonky translation has made people believe something was happening and it wasn't lol. But it seems very likely to be right judging from the blog post now I've had a look.Even without machine translation. Suppose I can't blame you since there are a lot of instances where exact words did not represent correctly due to machine translations. But yeah a release date is generally not the case.Just double checking, I can think of many times were a wonky translation has made people believe something was happening and it wasn't lol. A lot of ID movement in from the Bowser Castle tracks (including the ones already in the game, but this image doesn't track those) so I guess another Bowser Tour with GBA Bowser Castle 4 and one of the SNES Bowser Castle tracks will be coming within the next few months. Another increase for the big GCN gap too, and with Shroom Ridge in we can now see how many IDs DS Mario Circuit actually has (should be pretty close to releasing by now).
Probably a stupid question but, what exactly does this graphic show/represent?Not too interesting this time. Another increase for the already massive GBA and GCN gaps, Daisy Circuit and Piranha Plant Cove 3. The DS gap has been fully closed though so RIP Delfino Square (Monte Town).
What does that mean for the DS gap ? That there will be no more DS tracks coming on Tour, right? Not too interesting this time. It's also 2 am for my country, but I don't intend to stay up this night.2am is my time but it is not compatible with my work hours.
This is pretty much where I am, too, lol. It’s weird because I care more about the new characters than the new courses, despite the fact that I’ll probably never actually use any of the new characters myself and it’s the courses that are what really matter in Mario Kart, but I guess I have more desire to see the game’s character roster fill in some of the glaring omissions than to see more courses when the game already has plenty, lol. After all, there are less characters in the series than courses, so I feel like having more of the characters back is a bigger deal for the sake of completion.I have more hype and desire to see Birdo's place in the roster and to see the datamines of the new update than to play the new tracks lol
They would likely just change the character select screen for everyone with the update, whether you have the DLC or not. And the changes could be very minimal, if they went with something like this:I strongly believe that there will just be a new row of characters. I can't see them combining character alts simply due to the fact that then the character selection screen will look so different for people who have the DLC vs people who don't. Simplest and cleanest just to add a new row underneath, similar to how they added the new cups.
I mean, they’ve already done that with the Villagers on Wii U, so the precedent is already there.I'm #TeamNewRowOrColumn, still would be very surprised if they re-combined the variants given their different statistics and animations.
I would assume we will! Like, they’re not just gonna tack on a single new slot hanging off the side of the character icon grid for Birdo, lol. What I’m really wondering though is if we’ll learn how many characters we’re getting tonight.
Like if they add a new row for Birdo, will the other slots be “?” Or “coming soon!” Or something along those lines…
And then they deliberately undid that on the Switch. I would be surprised to see them do one thing, go back on it, then go back on it again, all because...there's a few too many Mario's on the select screen, I guess? I dunno, I feel like they could scale down the UI elements or shift things around first before they create a new submenu lumping characters who play differently together, but that's just me.I mean, they’ve already done that with the Villagers on Wii U, so the precedent is already there.
They separated them on Switch because they added five new characters, and separating the Villagers was the obvious choice to make the icon grid an even rectangle if they weren’t going to add a sixth new character. Maybe they also preferred it that way to what was done on Wii U, but who knows? The fact that that was their solution to squeezing in seven new characters into six slots with MK8’s DLC on Wii U in the first place could point towards the idea that they’ll do what they can to fit new characters in when they have to, which could apply to the Booster Course Pass DLC characters as well. And then they deliberately undid that on the Switch. Man could you imagine booting up the update tonight and they just add a few Tour skins for the hell of it? Would be nuts, like 5 or so skins from Tour being brought over just like that would be amazingNow, some bonus variants like Doctor Mario, Captain Toad, etc. that aren’t advertised as new characters and aren’t mentioned until after an update drops (like how they added the new item select screen without advertising it in advance)? I could see that happening!
I wouldn’t expect that many, lol, but a surprise variant or two would be nice!Man could you imagine booting up the update tonight and they just add a few Tour skins for the hell of it? Would be nuts, like 5 or so skins from Tour being brought over just like that would be amazing
I feel like the handling of the BCP early on was...weird. Rough around the edges, possibly rushed if we take the missing Coconut Mall car movement into account, not to mention how much more impressive the future waves have looked on the whole. There's a part of me that feels that the scale of the BCP increased internally over time or at least was given more time to breathe, but that's speculation on my part.I wouldn’t expect that many, lol, but a surprise variant or two would be nice!
Really, I just don’t understand why we would be getting 6 or 7 unique new characters without them having advertised that from the beginning. And if we were getting that many new characters, why wouldn’t they have been releasing, like, one with each wave, instead of shoving them all in the last three waves? There would be enough characters to do that if we were getting 6 or 7, and it would have made each wave of the DLC more exciting from the beginning (and give people more incentive to purchase it). Plus new characters take significantly less resources to make than new courses, so it’s not like they couldn’t have easily been giving us them alongside the courses since Wave 1…
Well the BCP was advertised as a rerelease of tracks from classic Mario Kart entries... but the majority of the remaining courses are reworks from a mobile game Nintendo probably doesn't think a lot of 8D's user base plays. Maybe so the people who don't care for the Tour tracks will remain invested, they'll keep adding more and more characters as we approach the end (tbh I don't think what I proposed was very likely tho)I wouldn’t expect that many, lol, but a surprise variant or two would be nice!

I honestly think the scope has been evolving since Wave 1, given how much better recent waves have looked, how new options are just being patched in.I wouldn’t expect that many, lol, but a surprise variant or two would be nice!

heh car pun, one might say this will really help drive NSO subscription salesI'm guessing BCP sold better than anticipated, either as a selling point of the NSO Expansion Pack or on its own. I wouldn't be shocked if we got two more waves tacked onto the end of the pass for an extra ten bucks. We still have plenty of time until Switch 2, so why not ride this thing out a little more? There's still plenty of fan favorite tracks to pick from.
It makes sense logically, but man it’d be weird to have a third page of cup icons with only 4 more cups. Doesn’t feel right lolI'm guessing BCP sold better than anticipated, either as a selling point of the NSO Expansion Pack or on its own. If anything the booster course pass proved that 8’s nitros could have used some looking over back before 8 came out as a lot of them fall flat even though they really shouldn’t with all the new gimmicks, a lot of them have boring theming or the interesting stuff happens outside the course. Or just a boring layout in what should be a really amazing course like dolphin shoals which is conceptually super cool but just feels janky.I’m fine with 8 Deluxe ending after the BCP, gotta leave some retro tracks to get the full blown MKNext treatment!!
Honestly, I don’t know if this is unpopular, but for retro tracks in the next game - I hope we have zero of 8’s nitro tracks. As a matter of fact, make the goal that it’s tracks that aren’t already playable on switch/2 (assuming 8 is backwards compatible)
I think we'll get a few Tour/BCP original tracks remade (Ninja Hideaway, Merry Mountain, and Sydney Sprint are likely candidates), but the base MK8 tracks will be left alone. They'll be too fresh on everyone's mind. The only exceptions that are possible are crossover tracks if the next game is Nintendo Kart.I’m fine with 8 Deluxe ending after the BCP, gotta leave some retro tracks to get the full blown MKNext treatment!!

Such tracks I would be excited to get full blown next gen remakes that weren’t/probably won’t be in 8 by the end of the BCP include
- N64 Wario Stadium (obligatory at this point)
- N64 Banshee Boardwalk (last saw it in… DS?)
- GBA Lakeside Park
- GCN Wario Colosseum
- GCN Rainbow Road
- DS Airship Fortress
- Wii Toad’s Factory
- Wii Moonview Highway
- 3DS Shy Guy Bazaar
- 3DS Rosalina’s Ice World
This is how I feel about MKWii's Star Cup and DD's Special Cup! Straight 10s!I don't care what anyone says, the Nintendo team could straight up put MK8's Star Cup in the next Mario Kart game and I would have zero complaints. Even if some of the tracks have some weaknesses, the Cup as a whole is one of the stronger ones in series history.
Two other fantastic choices! This is how I feel about MKWii's Star Cup and DD's Special Cup! Straight 10s!
I could potentially see a change in direction in terms of what content is provided. Like a more expansive story/mission mode, or lots of other alternative ways to play on top of the standard courses. I'm mostly just curious to see what happens. Doubt anyone expected MK8 to be this relevant nearly a decade out from its release!I wouldn’t be surprised if the next game forgoes retro tracks entirely. At the very least, I doubt they return to the standard 32 track format. Mario Kart will always sell well, but a new game would rightfully get slammed for having so little content in comparison to MK8 Deluxe (which will likely be available via backwards compatibility).
Either go the Ultimate route by polishing up MK8D even more and adding in the rest of the retros, or go with something entirely new and fresh. Think the next title’s gonna take one of those two directions.
The Bell Cup is the best cup in the game
I thought it was DLCIt has Super Bell Subway, my favorite track from the base track roster so I'm inclined to agree.
It was Wii U DLC but base game 8 Deluxe.I thought it was DLC
