Fami if Nintendo doesn't acknowledge Switch 2 in the investor meeting and there is no Direct on the 7th.

What's the difference between a Mini and a General Direct?

I expect.... Fire Emblem 4 and Metroid Prime 4. Not much more. Is that possible in a Mini? Since I've owned my Switch, I've never seen a Mini Direct !
There’s been debates, most think it’s the type of games announced. I honestly think it’s just when they don’t have the host segments like they do in general directs. Hence the “mini” since it’s missing that portion of a direct.

But a mini direct isn’t announced ahead of time and just dropped that day.

It is interesting that if Nintendo were ever rumored to be releasing games on Xbox or PlayStation i feel like the reaction would be positive and lots of excitement. Definitely the opposite of what I’m seeing with Xbox. But it seems like an announcement regarding those Xbox games has to be soon, hopefully in a direct this week

This reveal might be the biggest insult by a major gaming company in the past decade. I literally screamed "FUCK YOU" at my screen. I knew they said it wasn't going to be a Switch 2 reveal but the hype they created made me think they were just going to surprise us with it anyway. Absolutely unacceptable to do this to us. Once they knew Switch 2 was expected, they should've cancelled the announcement.

I kind of like the chaotic doom energy of the thread today provided our final destination turns out well. I’m still betting on a General Direct FWIW as I think this Direct will cover up through July/August. Now’s the best time to lay out the road map for the lead up to the Switch 2 even if we don’t hear about the Switch 2 in the presentation. I think the games in this period will justify a General and it makes sense to appear strong heading into the console transition rather than withering away.

Excited for this week's Nintendo Direct where they announce they're buying ActiBlizz from MS for pennies on the dollar.

I'm not sure if I'll ever know whether or not that original post was serious.

On one hand it's such an utterly over-the-top reaction and is absolutely nonsensical - "maybe they would surprise us with the thing they said wouldn't be there", "they should have cancelled the whole presentation they rented out show floor space for because some people on the internet expected something else"

But on the other hand it was in the middle of 2020 and none of us were feeling too great at that time so I can kind of get it.

If Microsoft doesn't come out with a statement tomorrow, I'm pretty sure Hi-Fi Rush will get revealed in the Direct. Otherwise Microsoft would want to get out in front of the news.
They can announce it just for Playstation. Then Switch later. Don't forget, Direct agreements are only binding for Nintendo platforms.

Ngl, it'd be impressive looks at the entire game industry (including our own Necro and Nate) and said "Lmao, you're wrong".
Would be a very Nintendo thing to do.

That being said, I think Hi-Fi Rush is an "all but confirmed" Switch 2 port at this point. I don't see it coming to the base Switch unless Panic Button is doing the port, and even then it would just work a lot better for the Switch 2.

Absolutely. Nintendo releases a game a month, we know about enough games to take us to May, and don't have dates beyond March. They have announcements they need to make before they even mention the Switch 2. Then throw in the stuff we've heard from third parties about how much better announcements go in Nintendo Directs vs Xbox & PlayStation showcases or their own shows. They'll have at least six or seven contracts with other developers for this year for Switch 1 games to show in a Direct, likely more.

Assuming the Switch 2 is coming out in September at the soonest and any June presentation focuses on that, we're looking at fifteen games to discuss minimum. That's surely not Mini territory, considering several will be brand new first-party announcements.

I do wonder what the reaction would be. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft fans would be quite happy - although I suspect some would gloat about it - but how would Nintendo fans react?

That said, I don't see this happening any time soon. As the majority of Nintendo's output isn't chasing the trend of "bigger, longer, more realistic!", they seem to have been mostly immune to the rapidly spiraling costs of development that I suspect are motivating Microsoft and Sony to publish their games elsewhere. That and their hardware sales have been mostly resilient as of late... if we ignore the Wii U.

It just doesn’t make sense to me to say anything until the first announcement. Like reveal games coming to other platforms in a press release? They have a plan and once the ports are officially announced you then address why they is good for Xbox/ the strategy

XboxEra has heard it's coming Q1 2024 for Switch/PS5, meaning anytime now, could get shadowdropped in Direct even.

And the leaked tshirt design indicate Switch 1. This is why Nintendo doesn't deliver devkits to everyone before the reveal, it can get leaked too easily.

I wouldn’t mind them putting games elsewhere but yea I would miss their consoles. I own all 3 but always gravitate toward Nintendo, focusing more on the creative/unique side as opposed to just the most powerful. They should have tested the waters with Sushi Strikers-I loved that game lol

I mean... maybe? Idk a leak still isn't concrete especially since a lot of people were debating if a Hi-Fi Rush port was real until a month ago.

On the note about the tshirt design though, it is red and has "Rock Out Anywhere!". That indicated a Switch port... doesn't indicated which Switch though. It could just as well work on Switch 2. Not really a smoking gun for a specific Nintendo system either which way imo.

I mean, I don't think Tango is privy to knowledge about the full name of Nintendo's next system and style so making it red and referencing the Switch 1's tagline while not really being sure what the next thing actually is apart from possibly having a devkit in your hands would be weird.

Although FWIW, might as well just be a cool reference

A D-Tier Mario spinoff ("D-Tier" in terms of like, quality/importance/hype, not sales obviously)
If that's D-Tier, then what would you call C-Tier? (A-Tier is Kart, B-Tier is Party)
Um yeah, I can come up with the most uncharitable and borderline disingenuous way to describe every announcement in any general Direct, too. I guess "overpriced single-player DLC for an already dead multiplayer game"
That assertion seems a bit more extreme than "uncharitable and borderline disingenuous," at the very least I'd remove the "borderline" part. Though I get what wider point you were trying to make.

We literally have zero evidence for the successor being "Switch 2". Sure it'll be a hybrid machine again but it could also be much more. Could use a different branding and even a new color... Like how Wii U adopted blue.

Last thing Nintendo would want is another consumer confusion incident.

I think the devkit situation will be very similar to Switch's. They got distributed after NX release date got revealed in April 2016. Right now Nintendo hasn't even hinted about their next generation console yet. I think only Nintendo and affiliate studios have the devkits right now. Everyone else should get theirs after the reveal and there should be enough time to port their games to Switch. Could be easier and faster porting processes thanks to DLSS.

yeah I doubt any MS studios besides maybe COD studios and Mojang have advance Switch 2 dev kits pre-reveal

I mean, there's no law that says CoD and Minecraft have to be on the launch day. And I think there should be enough time to port these two after Nintendo starts to hand out devkits.

the leaked Switch shirt does have a fist holding up 2 fingers though ... just saying
Well, you'd do the devil's horns when you say something like "rock out" tbh.

And Nintendo never had numbered console names like Playstation does (64 is the number of bits, not consoles lol), unlikely that they'll start now. The successor will have a very Nintendo-esque name.

I believe Q1 is April through June is Fiscal Year terms. We're still in Q4.

Obviously can’t say for sure without seeing it, but consumer facing rumors usually mean calendar Q1 vs fiscal year considerations which vary between companies so January/February/March in this case. It’s confusing.

And then there is a direct on the 14th that features FE4R and MP4 with the footnote that additional information about those two is to come at a later event.

The least confusing thing Nintendo could do is call it the Switch 2

I hope that if Halo does come to Switch, it's a native port and not just some cloud nonsense via GamePass.
