Will 2024 finally be the year when we’ll see Metroid Prime 4?

Please Nintendo. I’m a simple man

We will get another picture like this posted for a tease of switch 2… I can feel it!

Nate was hearing from developers something about March at Gamescom. It’s what makes me more confident March will be the reveal for Switch 2.
First full week of March let’s go

(I’m off that week, would be groovy)

Early February Direct with no mention whatsoever of Switch 2. The halls of the internet shall echo with screams of "Alas! No Switch 2 until 2025!" until Nintendo announces via an out of nowhere tweet that they will talk about the system at some point in March or April.

That's my prediction. It's not very original, but it's mine.

January Mini for just Switch games. Then March/April getting the Switch 2 reveal.

Reason I'm going with January instead of February is simply because Peach was to get it's first public demo at Nintendo Live in mid January. Of course that event has since been canceled but I think regardless of that Nintendo will stay on track for their Peach marketing plan. So some sort of trailer has to drop early January for it.

This is kind of important as a possible reason we could get the direct in January.

Weekly Questions Week 1
With the thread starting to get settled in, I'm going to drop the first Weekly Question for the thread! This one will run through the end of the day on Wednesday January 3rd so you'll get a little extra time to answer it compared to future questions!

Week 1 - What are you most looking forward to and hoping for from Nintendo in 2024?

To not color answers too much, I'll ispoiler my own answer. I think for me of course the Switch 2 is on the forefront of my mind now. I really hope we get a great sense of what the first year will hold for the console as well as some long term teases (similar to the Switch 1 January reveal) not to mention having cool games at launch like a new 3D Mario. I'm also hoping the games and revivals for Switch 1 don't let up. We've had some really cool stuff come back recently like Advance Wars, Pikmin, and Mario RPG and I'm looking forward to trying out Another Code this year. I hope we get some more revivals like these (new games and remakes) in addition to the big pillar games. Finally, I definitely want to play Metroid Prime 4 this year!

The first thread event is currently planned to start roughly 12ish hours from now, so please look forward to it :)

Right now I'm feeling a January direct. No actual mention of new hardware, but the closer is a new 3D Mario slated for 2024 that will end up being a Switch 2 launch title

The thing I'm most looking forward to from Nintendo in 2024 (as far as actually confirmed things, anyway) is probably Side Order; Splatoon has surprisingly solid single-player modes for such an online-focused game, and I expect Side Order to be no different

What I'm most hoping for is fairly predictable. This time next year I want to be have played a new 3D Mario on a new Nintendo system

I guess what I’m most looking forward to from Nintendo in 2024 is the Switch 2. The Switch has run its course for me, and over the past year I’ve moved on from it, to where it’s no longer my primary console. I didn’t turn it on hardly at all the past six months. So I’m hoping that Nintendo actually announces the next system, and that it’s got enough Nintendo magic to get me excited again.

For games, if they announce a new 3D Mario, a 3D Donkey Kong, a new Metroid, or a Pokemon Legends 2 I would be thrilled.

Really wish we got news on the Switch succesor soon, but I feel the next Direct will still be only focused on games for the current console...

#TeamJanuary as always
But for real this time, not just for memes.

For Switch stuff though. Not Switch 2.

On top of the Peach stuff, I think January makes sense just in terms of not crowding the opposing reveals too close to each other between what will probably be the last Switch-focused show before the rest of the year's marketing is Switch 2 dominant, with the first proper showcase probably being Switch 2-only (other than cross-gen titles).

Give those 2024 Switch games a bit more time in the spotlight before it and our attention move onto the new guy and never fully come back.

@xghost777 thank you for the thread and OP! Was really excited when you first said you were doing this!

I don't really think Nintendo will be showing the Switch 2 in their next direct. We just finished the holidays and it'll be important for folks who just got a Switch to not feel like Nintendo is moving on to a new console already. I think the next Direct focuses on games coming out up to June/July 2023, Pokemon direct in February, and Hardware unveiling in April with a special presentation. No mention of new hardware at all.

I do think the last year of the console will be a quieter one. Splatoon 3 DLC in April. Paper Mario TTYD in May. Luigi's Mansion 2HD in August. I think we'll see one of the two HD Zelda remasters that have been rumored for years, but not both. They'll save one for 2025 because it'll be a long time before we see a new 3D Zelda.

I also think that in this direct we'll see an announcement for the next Fire Emblem for a July release date. Plus, a Metroid Prime 2 Remaster shadow drop and Metroid Prime 3 Remaster announcement for April 2024. I think we'll also see a new casual title this year. Maybe a new Nintendogs, Switch Party, or a new Tomodachi Life. I'm also holding out for Super Mario Bros. Wonder DLC.

Switch 2 will launch in September with Metroid Prime 4 as a cross title. 3D Donkey Kong will be the November game for Nintendo (maybe with an announcement of a Donkey Kong movie). Square Enix will also be there with some of their newer titles porting over to the Switch 2.

Switch 2 console gimmick: 3D Capability. You'll be able to play Metroid Prime 4 in VR. A new Zelda experience for 3D using the Beath of the Wild engine will launch with the system as well. This system will let developers port some of their existing VR experiences like VR Chat.

Week 1 - What are you most looking forward to and hoping for from Nintendo in 2024?

I think it'll be a solid year for Nintendo, if not a great year. I'm keeping my hopes and dreams in check, but as a 3DS lover, I'd love for them to take more from that system for the new console. So, I'm hoping but not actually expecting it, Street Pass, menu music, themes, smaller on console games, better game play time tracking, etc. I'm also hoping for Nintendo's more casual experiences to come over to this console. My family/friends need a new Wii Party/Wii Party U game.

i have been team january since the old place. nintendo has stuck to february for years. it only makes sense to remain on team january

Mine is Switch 2 closely followed by the TTYD remaster.

I’ve been holding off for ages on a lot of third party games hoping they would come to Switch 2 but I ended up buying a Steam Deck OLED recently. Switch 2 will likely now be just an exclusive machine for me which is fine because the Nintendo output this generation is more than enough for me to warrant buying a Switch 2 day one.

TTYD is a game I have never beaten so I’m looking forward to rectifying that in 2024.

My prediction is that we're going to get a Direct Mini in January going over games like Mario vs DK, Princess Peach Showtime, etc.

Then in February, we'll get the Switch 2 reveal. It'll just be a trailer with some new games only teased, like the Switch 1 reveal. Then they'll have a full presentation on Switch 2 games sometime in the spring or early summer.

oh yeah, this is really solid

I think that could be handled via Twitter but this is a really solid year for a January mini

Most likely June would be the full games blowout but with the console reveal before then and from March or after. Maybe even a tease at the end of the final Switch 1 Direct in February.
Has it been indicated by insiders and the like not to expect any hardware announcement this winter?

We’ve certainly got an exciting year ahead of us. I anticipate 2024’s direct speculation threads to become even more crazed and unhinged than they typically are. Don’t let me down.

Nate was hearing from developers something about March at Gamescom. It’s what makes me more confident March will be the reveal for Switch 2.

Assuming the March thing is actually a thing, it being the reveal seems not super likely. The Switch reveal was kept almost completely quiet, since even the third parties involved seemingly weren't even allowed to confirm their games were coming until the January presentation. If a date was known, it'd probably be something third parties would be more involved in.

The Nintendo Switch 2's real name being revealed, and it not being the Nintendo Switch 2, will mess up my brain. I'm stupid, I still call TOTK "BOTW2" to this day.

Switch 2 is around the corner is Switch 2 is around the corner is Switch 2 is around the

in a thick Welsh accent
🎵Things are getting strange, I'm starting to worry. This could be a case for Team January 🎶

I am thinking Nintendo will tell investors first that they plan on releasing a new platform in the next fiscal year, without going into further detail. I think a full reveal may come either at the end of the fiscal year or right at the beginning of the next fiscal year (so March to April)

As for the H1 2024 Direct, I believe we will see release dates for existing announced titles. I am hoping Luigi’s Mansion 1 GC version gets a shadow drop. Since Nintendo has been doing something Zelda related every year I can see either WWHD and/or TPHD being announced. Maybe a Metroid Prime 4 teaser to end. Another personal hope is Xenoblade Chronicles X and Yoshi’s Woolly World remasters for Switch. Honestly, this is a very strange time, we don’t know exactly how Nintendo will handle Switch games post-Switch successor launch, so it makes it difficult to predict new announcements.

I have a doctor's appointment on the 11th of January, so if we're gonna get a surprise January Direct, that'll be the day!

To temper my own expectations, I’m not expecting to hear a peep about a new console until this summer the earliest

My predictions:

  • Early Feb is the announcement of the announcement. Perhaps a Direct Mini?
  • Early March is the official reveal of the next generation switch completely separate from the usual Jan/Feb direct we get every year.
  • Late May will be the release.

Alright it’s that time again eh?

I’m teetering on either early-mid January mini or a regular February direct rn tbh.

Then in response to the week 1 question, what I’m hoping the most for Nintendo’s 2024 is a reveal of Nintendo Switch 2 and tomodachi life 3, then I’m looking forward to TTYD HD the most in terms of already announced games.

February 7th. No Switch 2 till maybe May, and it may not release next year. Metroid Prime 4 will be revealed in the February direct and will be the holiday title, with no mention of it coming to the next console.

The two Switch 2 threads shall suffer.

Oh yeah, I am expecting that the next direct will be larger than the 2023 june direct, they're going include the brand new Pokemon games along with more reveals of new nintendo games that aren't remakes or remasters.

January for the general direct that gives us another look at Princess Peach Showtime, and release dates for Luigi's Mansion 2 + Paper Mario TTYD.

#TeamMarchandBeyond for the Switch 2 reveal.

My speculation is only so tame/tepid because I still have so much to play on the Switch. I'll buy the Switchquel when it comes, and I'm excited for it, but also not "waiting" for it if that makes sense.

Full direct in february, "The Next Generation of Nintendo" announced in June, Switch 2/Advance/whatever direct in september, release in November.

We'll get "We are actively working on the next Nintendo platform for release within the next year" at a shareholders event before June.

Great thread @xghost777

Main Nintendo games in super hyped for are TTYD and Luigi’s mansion 2. There’s also the hope for the switch 2

I’m team January this year as I hope either a direct or a reveal of the switch 2
