Yeah, the potential list for 2022 is kind of crazy. With rumoured/potential releases in square brackets, my excitement would go:

1) Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel
2) Bayonetta 3
3) [3D Mario]
4) [Xenoblade Chronicles 3]
5) [Fire Emblem]
6) Triangle Strategy
7) Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak
8) Splatoon 3
9) [Dragon Quest 3 Remake]
10) Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
11) [Metroid Prime HD]
12) Advance Wars Reboot Camp

2022 gonna be crazy.

I've been so busy with SMTV and life that I missed out on the small information on FE. So with a 3rd party company helping IS, I have no doubt it's KT. Engine is ready, assets are ready to be reused. I'm excited but concerned since Three Houses wasn't exactly the most optimised game.

I think I have accepted the fact that most of the FE team having been working/supporting Fire Emblem Heroes since they make so much money.

Oh god I'll be getting 7 of those if that really is the list. Also Kirby possibly which I think you missed.

Kirby's in my 'maybe' pile. There's also Pokemon Legends, which I'm personally not too fussed about. Emily hasn't heard anything about 3D Mario. Her list was:

Pokemon Legends
Kirby
Advance Wars
Triangle Strategy
Mario + Rabbids
Fire Emblem
Xenoblade 3
Zelda
Bayonetta 3
Metroid Prime HD
Stinky Horse Casual Sequel
Splatoon 3

For some reason I thought Pokemon Legends was actually in your list. Haven't had my coffee yet I guess.

Yeah I'm still a bit wary on that, depends entirely on if I have something else to play at the time.

Three Houses looks hilariously bad in places

I dunno, looks pretty realistic to me:

BotW2 is definitely at the top of my list, but I’m seriously doubtful it makes 2022. That makes Arceus my most-anticipated game of next year.

My top three goes something like

1) BotW2 assuming it makes 2022
2) Legends Arceus
3) Elden Ring

So looking at this list I guess I just really like Breath of the Wild lol

All those games are just BotW

Wasn't 2021 supposed to be crazy? And 2020?

Man, is it such a big ask for people to not spoil plot points of a game that released a week ago? Someone I follow on Twitter for puzzle game stuff just started talking about stuff I haven’t got to in SMT yet out of nowhere. Shut up!

I don’t know if Twitter proper has this functionality but the third party Twitter app I use lets me mute words and hashtags. Very useful for not seeing anything related to a game I don’t want spoiled.

Yeah, I’m gonna do this now. Nobody else I follow has really been talking about it and the ones who have at least have some decency lol.

I guess I also need to get my arse in gear and plow on with the game, this is what I get for being distracted by everything else coming out!

Have the quality of Joy-Cons become worse over the last few years…?

I picked up a set of the Purple/Orange Joy-Cons and noticed that the left stick has a springy type of sound (like you can feel the tension inside of it when you move the stick around). I exchanged it and the second pair is the same. Then I got my Switch OLED two days ago and noticed the same thing.

All of them have been the same with the left Joy-Con. When I looked it up online it seems pretty common, I found someone post some audio of it on Reddit and mine sounds exactly like this.

Yeah, we never get everything that's rumored. At this point I would bet on Zelda and Xenoblade being 2023

That said, next year is supposed to have the Switch 2 so there'd be reason for way too many games next fall

To be fair, every FE game looks quite different to each other. Unless you're referring to graphics then maybe. I'm just being cautious since that Omega crusty engine dosen't inspire great confidence lol.

I'm talking graphics specifically.

No cap, Three Houses looks bad technically. Whatever the next game is, some semblance of lighting is sorely needed, as is anti-aliasing

The first trailer had looked decent but unfortunately the final product was a downgrade maybe due to the game being too ambitious.

I'm guessing now covid stuff is over(at least for the game development problems) and all nintendo staff are back in their offices at full force or am I wrong?
nope. COVID is absolutely still a factor and will be flaring various places for at least the next year

How would you all feel if 2022's lineup was:
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Splatoon 3
  • Fire Emblem
  • Mario + Rabbids 2
  • Sequel to Casual game
  • Triangle Strategy
  • Bayonetta 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Advance Wars 1 + 2
  • Metroid Prime HD Remaster
Would you be satisfied with 2022 if this was the lineup?
I would definitely be really satisfied.

Even more because that leaves Super Mario Odyssey 2, Mario Kart Next and Metroid Prime 4 to get all the spotlight of 2023.

I usually get more hyped for games the more I know about them and how close they are to release, so my top 3 most anticipated games for next year would be
1. Elden Ring
2. Silksong (hoping/assuming the Nvidia leak has the actual release date)
3. Legends Arceus

Despite being the sequel to my favorite game of all time I have trouble getting hyped for BoTW2 since we know so damn little about it

I need publishers to confirm whether they're porting their RPGs to Switch next year to help me plan and figure out whether or not I do want a Series S. Specifically, it would be helpful to know if Mass Effect Trilogy, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, and Fantasian are coming to Switch and if so, when they're launching.

Thanks, respective companies responsible for distributing this information.

My expectations for this year were largely restrained and pretty much met, though the lack of a new EPD title besides Game Builder Garage was the one thing that really did disappoint me. It's also the case that a bunch of games I expected to arrive did arrive and some of them were things I both wanted and enjoyed.

Definitely, Nintendo sailed under my expectations in 2020. Hard to believe it right now, but late 2019 I was optimistic both in life and in the videogame world. Happier times.

That being said, even if I restricted my views on 2022 to currently announced titles, I'd have to say I'm very excited. There's good stuff on the horizon already and a bunch of it is right in my ballpark.

Oof that downgrade, I never noticed that it was that bad

Yeah, we never get everything that's rumored. At this point I would bet on Zelda and Xenoblade being 2023

To be fair, 2020 and 2021 were Covid years, and games had to be shuffled around accordingly. Either due to development reasons, marketing reasons, or both.

Predicting release schedules isn't easy even if your sources are A++ quality. My understanding is 3D World was originally a Holiday 2020 title - not a February 2021 title. Another first party game must have been delayed from Jan-March 2020, so they filled that slot with 3D World. That's why that had to extend Mario's 35th anniversary celebration beyond 2020 (into early 2021). Pikmin 3 Deluxe was originally suppose to be a Spring title, not an October title. Again, games got shuffled around.

Advance Wars was suppose to be 2021, but it's getting bumped into early 2022. Delays happen.

Also, Zelda BOTW2 isn't "rumored" for 2022. A 2022 release date for BOTW2 was officially announced by Nintendo at E3 last year! That didn't come from insiders, it came from Nintendo's mouth. :p We'll see if Nintendo can stick the landing on its release date.

just popping in to say that I’m (controversially) enjoying Pokémon Shining Pearl. The only extremely mild thing I noticed so far is that the battlefield animation double-plays when you go into the “Switch Pokémon” menu. None of that detracts from it being a good game. So far in the first three towns I feel like I’ve had to use slightly more strategy than I usually do in Pokémon. But perhaps I am an outlier and should not be counted.

.....now I'm kinda hoping that BOTW2 gets delayed so that we can get a new 3D Mario game next holiday. There's no way both release in that timeframe.
I think Zelda next holiday and Mario spring 2023 is way better.

Then MP4 and Mario Kart holiday 2023.

BOTW2 was probably meant to be a 2021 title before COVID hit. Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity + BOTW2 to celebrate the Zelda anniversary, with Skyward Sword HD coming in late 2020 as a stopgap.

I feel Kirby in March would make sense, but that would require a January Direct to announce the release date 👀

They’d have to come with some serious new stuff to get me to buy TPHD and WWHD again. Bowser’s Fury-level of new stuff.
After Skyward Sword and 3D All Stars I think TP and WW will be vanilla ports and I don't even blame them for doing it as both already were well done with TP having a new dungeon with amiibo and WW having a big graphical overhaul. After SS HD I think they should be 60 FPS tho.

I definitely would want every GCN/Wii/Wii U remaster to have the same extra content or graphical overhaul as Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury tho.

I think as always it’s very easily to formulate any narrative you want especially when it comes to excitement and anticipation . At the end of the day there isn’t a one size fits all Year of Gaming that is phenomenal for everyone and I find a lot of circles overly try and reach consensus on things and find outside validation for their opinions when it’s okay just to have enjoyed or not enjoyed a thing .

Personally 2021 has been great , and it’s the very definition of crazy considering there were lots of unexpected releases and revivals and bonkers announcements . 2022 for not only my personal tastes but the industry as a whole is looking incredibly large and all together promising quality wise too. Also every year has delays , some games don’t turn out as expected , etc etc and that’s implicitly factored into right now saying 2022 is “looking crazy”.

I feel Kirby in March would make sense, but that would require a January Direct to announce the release date 👀
if Kirby was March, I think they would have said so by now. I don't think we'll get too many more major games before the FY ends. April or May make more sense given that

Im just curious if dev's are still working remote or they are all back in the offices
not even in the US are all workers back in their offices, nor should they be at all. I’m pretty sure that applies to devs, too. I’m not sure where you are, but it’s spiking extremely bad in Michigan. I don’t trust any states to go back on their already extremely lax approaches, but the consequences are gonna get apparent, and soon.

If we’re only considering Japan, the problem is that COVID didn’t really bring Work From Home into vogue the way many workers hoped it would, so that sort of office staggering that’s been happening is kind of dependent on COVID flaring. It’s extremely low right now… but it’s not over, and we’ve seen so many places that thought they were out of the woods get slammed once they let their guards down.

since Japan still has significantly less work-from-home infrastructure, if Japan flares again, it will have a bigger effect on them than devs elsewhere. And when Nintendo is happy to delay most targets to make sure a game is at least moderately quality-controlled… COVID, for the purposes of your question, remains not over

Nintendo dropping early hints at the Zelda remaster they'll be subbing in to replace BotW2.

To me it's a pretty clear hint of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (remake).
2023(25th OoT anniversary). Completely overhauled graphics, 60FPS, with 4K on Dane and at 1080p on current Switch.

Edit: not a serious post

I created my first thread here on Fami, and it's of course a fan favorite topic: Pokémon's new direction, past games and a comparison with SMTV at the very end!
