Yesterday I found a streamer who did a nice blind let's play of Xenoblade 2 and it was great to see her reaction to the ending. I spent 2 hours crying with her lol.
Sometimes I like to see blind plays of other people too. I don't have all that time of course so I just watch how they react to the parts with Malos in them. Much faster

Stinker Horseman will be a 100 hour turn-based JRPG with light social and dating sim features and branching routes to encourage NG+ replays (Stinky, Odorless and Fragrant alignments, plus an additional route where you side with the church).

Also XC2 is one of my most-played Switch titles but I didn't actually finish it. I think I'm milling around lost in one of the final areas. I'll probably finish it before I start XCDE, but I got distracted.

I still feel it is very strange for a company like Nintendo to be holding up finished title while other company had no qualm in releasing unfinished title lol. What's so different between Ninty and other company there?
Two big things.

The first is that Nintendo's has these evergreen franchises and isn't chasing pixel count. A Nintendo game doesn't age as badly while it sits - but if you're trying to slice off a chunk of the AAA rougelite MOBA 1v100 lootbox market then your game releasing 3 months later can be a death sentence.

The second is that Nintendo started planning years and years ago. They knew they had to fix the release schedule and the constant delays. They had to bank games to ensure there was always something to release and not just hype a game they'd later have to delay.

They knew from Day 1 that every possible Wii U port was coming to Switch, so those started ASAP. They gave every dev partner a remake or a spin-off or a medium tier franchise, all the stuff Nintendo figured they might eventually get to anyway, just go ahead and start. Keep the pipeline full, and when things are going well, just put stuff in the vault, and when things are going less well, release a little bit of the backlog.

The upside has been a constant stream of high quality releases and a bunch of B team series getting serious shots in the arm. The downside has been the relative dearth of new IPs and weird Nintendo.

How would you all feel if 2022's lineup was:
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Splatoon 3
  • Fire Emblem
  • Mario + Rabbids 2
  • Sequel to Casual game
  • Triangle Strategy
  • Bayonetta 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Advance Wars 1 + 2
  • Metroid Prime HD Remaster
Would you be satisfied with 2022 if this was the lineup?

  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus - January 28
  • Bayonetta 3 - February?
  • Triangle Strategy - March 4th
  • Advance Wars 1 + 2 - April?
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land - May?
  • Fire Emblem - June?
  • Splatoon 3 - July?
  • Mario + Rabbids 2: August?
  • Sequel to Casual game - September?
  • Metroid Prime HD Remaster - Octobre?
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 - November?
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - December?
Just to fill every month with a game for fun

Just not sure a rating really tells us anything new compared to its “spring 2022” release date .

I would be shocked if BOTW2 actually made its 2022 timeline. Even without BOTW2, this would be an incredible lineup.

Any Fami members recommend a good Phantasy Star IV guide?

I want to play the game but the chronic fatigue situation makes things difficult in general. Having a good guide to play by should mean I actually stick with the game.

Satisfied? I'd be in heaven

I forgot what it’s like to nomnom in establishments where people are allowed to puffpuff and I gotta tell you friendos it’s super shit
Okay wait I'm in the middle of DQXI and I need more details

Real take: Every game would be improved by becoming a turn based RPG.
I sincerely think I would enjoy Xenoblade better if they were turn-based. Like seriously.

weeaboos, you have my pity
And you have my bow

I had a shisha lounge near me and my friends we used to visit semi-frequently before the pandie that had some pretty dope shawarma served

Though when I went to another hookah bar this past summer I got so lightheaded and nauseous after a few puffs I realized I don't have a tolerance for it anymore lol

Extremely surprised to hear that Fire Emblem is nearly done. Would you say it's likely to be a new title like Three Houses or rather a remake (which is what most of the fanbase seem to expect, a remake of Fire Emblem 4)? If you can tell at all, of course.

Thanks for this! It's nice to know just how many games Nintendo has in the proverbial pipe for 2021.

I wonder if there's any new hardware in the cards for 2022... or maybe early 2023? If so, I bet BOTW2 gets pushed to launch alongside it.

Shadows of Valentia was announced only a few months before release. So if it's remake, it would fall in line with what they have done before. No need for a long and drawn out marketing cycle.

Yes, and it would explain what has the development team of Fire Emblem at Intelligent Systems doing since Shadows of Valentia (Three Houses was mostly done by Koei Tecmo). Still, four to five years for a remake would surprise me a bit but FE4 is a big game, so it is understandable.

i told you
sometimes my optimism clouds my judgment

man, EPD9 stuck on Tour and some indeterminable chunk of 8 stuck on 2D Donkey Kong. bummer time for raccoons

10 is probably doing a 2D Mario too, in addition to big brain academy with that outsourcing partner

They also made Paper Mario Origami King so it's not like they only work on Fire Emblem.

Took off all of next week. Picking up Pokemon after work. Just ordered Nier Replicant and Scarlet Nexus off Best Buy's Black Friday deals. SMT V currently sitting in my Switch. It's gonna be WEEBSGIVING starting today!

EPD 9 surely has moved onto the next Mario Kart by now but they pretty obviously were occupied with Tour until 2019/2020

At least you have the stinky casual game

EPD staff is like the highest valued asset of Nintendo, I really doubt they would give priority to Tour which is "generating $7.7 million on average per month globally over the last year." (Sensor Tower).

I don't need to mention how small this is vs the biggest EPD productions.

Is it the same people? I thought it was different people at the same studio
Difficult to know without doing credits breakdowns, but it is true that the senior leads for Shadows of Valentia haven't worked on a game since that released.

That being said, given Intelligent Systems have around 180 staff, it doesn't seem possible to me they had a large or full team beavering away behind the scenes. Something like 80 to 100 staff worked on Origami King, plus they did WarioWare, had a small group in charge of Three Houses, and they run Fire Emblem Heroes. It doesn't leave much spare capacity.

My guess is, if a Fire Emblem remake is ready for 2022, then the leads for Shadows of Valentia have done some work on the next Fire Emblem remake in the background, and that a full development team was assigned at some point after Three Houses wrapped up. Presumably that means KT and IS continue to work together.

I'm not sure. I imagine there are multiple teams with some staff cross over between titles. IS is also still doing Fire Emblem Heroes and they recently released Wario Ware. The point is that I don't think IS finished Shadows of Valentia and have only been working on this new Fire Emblem since 2017.

Not gonna lie XC3 not releasing next year would be a massive bummer, XC2 came out in 2017, early 2023 would be almost 5.5 years in between.

Of course they made XC2 Torna and XCDE in the meantime and quality does take its time, but if it has to be early 2023 I want it as a crossgen title with Switch DLSS upgrades at launch day.

It's also important to remember EPD draws from a shared pool of staff, even if small groups of staff are permanently affixed to each production group.

My guess is the biggest bottlenecks at EPD have been the pandemic, and that the shared pool of staff isn't quite big enough, hence the incoming extra investment.

It seemed to me in 2019 that EPD were hitting their stride again - Labo VR in April 2019, Super Mario Maker 2 in June 2019, Ring Fit Adventure in October 2019, Animal Crossing in March 2020. That's a steady rate of output after the Labo Kits in 2018, and it includes three major efforts. The fact that EPD output stopped after AC suggests to me that the pandemic was a major headache for that division especially.

I’m sure Intelligent Systems is being greatly assisted by KT and/or Tose on FE4R. Internal staff numbers don’t tell the whole story.
